A/N: I don't own Gravitation
#19, red
"You are an idiot, you know that?" Yuki nudges me with his foot, waking me up.
I struggle to look at my watch - nineteen hours before the first insult - a new record! I wipe away the drool drying on my cheek; I must've fallen asleep on my stomach. I push up with my arms, trying to stand and wince as the pain hits me.
"Did you even bother with sunscreen?" Yuki's tone is exasperated, although slightly tinged with concern.
"It's still morning, I didn't think I needed it."
"Well, it's past 3:00 now and you're cooked."
I stood up - my skin feeling tight on my back and the back of my legs. Shit. "How bad does it look?"
"Not quite purple, but you've achieved a nice shade of red."
Yuki carries my stuff as we walk back to the cottage. I try to walk normally to save some face and bite my tongue to withhold my tirade of why he didn't wake me up sooner, sadistic bastard. But I really don't want to fight so I restrain myself. I can tell that he's been drinking steadily all day and don't want to push him.
"Go take a cold shower, I'll see what I can find to put on it."
The shower feels like needles on my back, but the cold does help take some of the heat away. I can't believe I got this burnt on the first day; my vacation is rapidly going down the tubes. I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror and it only intensifies the pain. I don't see any blisters, just never ending red. I brace myself for a scathing comment as I leave the bathroom. I deserve one.
Yuki's waiting for me with a bottle of something in his hand. "C'mon Einstein, lay down on the bed and let me put this on, it should help."
I follow him obediently into the bedroom and do as he instructs. The thought of anyone touching my back makes me want to cry. He sits next to me on the bed and starts applying the lotion. I hiss in pain as his fingers make contact, but instead of scolding me, his face mirrors his concern; the caring look in his eyes worth the discomfort. He works in silence, his hands blissfully cool and gentle against my burnt skin.
"You'll be on your stomach for a few days."
"I'm sorry Yuki - I'm so stupid - "
"Stop. We're on vacation to relax, and this is relaxing. So we spend the next few days in bed, twist my arm."
I clutch the pillow under me and watch Yuki undress before lying down. He leans over and brushes his lips against my cheek, being careful not to jostle me, then picks up his book. He starts to read, his voice calm and steady as he reads aloud. I smile and bury my cheek into the soft pillow, a gentle breeze playing across my tender back.
I was wrong this morning... this is Heaven.
