"What time is your flight coming in?"
He sat there with a goofy grin on his face, looking out the window at the clouds and conjuring the tone of Yuki's voice as he asked that question. "What time is your flight coming in?" Yuki had no idea how easy Shuichi was to please. He knew he could be a pain in the ass, something he readily admitted, but he was really easy to please.
"... when we land. Shu? Are you even listening to me?" Hiro nudged his best friend with his elbow, an easy smile brightening his face as he saw the dreamy expression Shu was sporting.
"Huh?" Shuichi turned towards Hiro, looking sheepish. "I'm sorry, I was just thinking."
"You're hopeless sometimes." Hiro's smile softened. "I was asking you if you wanted to grab something to eat when we land, I'm starving."
"I'm sorry, Yuki's picking me up from the airport."
Hiro looked somewhat shocked, but Shuichi couldn't blame him. In five years Yuki had picked him up at the airport once, and they were going through some tough times then. Due to their run ins with the press, they usually shied away from airport greetings and farewells, trying not to draw unwanted attention to themselves. "What do you think he did?"
"What do you mean 'what do I think he did'?" Shuichi asked alarmed.
"It's just unlike him to be so ... thoughtful."
"Hey! Yuki's just as thoughtful as the next guy, when he remembers to be." Shuichi grinned at the absurdity of what he just said. "Who knows, maybe he's lonely, but I'm not complaining."
They arrived without issue and Shuichi couldn't wait to see Yuki again. Hiro had stuffed everything he brought into his carry-on, so Shuichi headed towards baggage claim alone. He looked around for Yuki, but couldn't see him through the crowd. Grabbing his suitcase off the conveyor belt, he stood to the side and waited as the people thinned, scanning the baggage claim area for Yuki. A half hour passed and he sat on top of his suitcase on the floor, wondering if he'd made a mistake or dreamed the whole conversation. His previous giddy mood was quickly draining away, leaving him down and insecure. After waiting an hour he tried Yuki's cell and got Yuki's voicemail. He didn't bother leaving a message. He could always call Hiro to come back for him, but he just felt stupid for believing that Yuki would actually show.
Shuichi felt like crying, but instead wheeled his luggage to the bar and sat down. He had always been a lightweight, so it didn't take long for him to drown his sorrows in draft beer. He didn't talk to anyone, just focused his attention on the television positioned over the bar and the drink in his hand. He felt someone sit in the stool next to him, but didn't pay any attention until someone slipped the glass out of his grasp. Shuichi looked up, surprised to see Yuki downing the remainder of his beer.
"I thought you were going to wait in baggage claims?"
"I thought you were going to be on time!" Shuichi slurred angrily.
"What are you talking about, I am on time!" Yuki motioned for the bartender, ordering a beer for himself and asking for the check.
"My flight came in at eight!"
"You said your flight was coming in at ten!"
"Why would I say my flight was coming in at /ten/, when it came in at /eight/?!"
"I don't know! God Shuichi, you can be such an idiot!" Yuki drank half his beer down in one long swallow. "Here, listen to the message you left on my phone." Yuki pushed a few buttons then handed the phone over.
Shuichi listened intently, a grin spreading across his face. "I said flight 10 ... who's the idiot?"
Yuki raised an eyebrow. "Flight 10?"
Shuichi nodded vigorously, tipping of the stool. He would've landed on the floor if Yuki didn't catch him, pulling him close. Not caring who was watching Yuki kissed his lover gently, feeling him relax against him before pulling away. It only took one kiss to make Shuichi forget his anger and Yuki contained his smile.
"You're still an idiot."
