“Gee. I need to talk to you.” Frank said eventually, his eyes still fixated on Gerard’s after what felt like hours of just staring at him. Gerard slowly moved his gaze to Bob, the human staring back with wide, terrified eyes. His face was pale and his body trembled a little, his blue eyes refusing to meet Gerard’s and the vampire huffed softly in annoyance. Trust Bob to turn out to be a real pain in the ass. Gerard had never liked him but this just took the biscuit.
“About what?” He asked innocently, moving his gaze back to the Frank and the shorter man glanced at Bob, biting his lip before he slid out of the bed and took Gerard’s hand.
“Erm... in private.” He said gently, trying to give Bob a soothing smile but it turned out to be too difficult to muster what with his emotions still raging all over the place from his father’s death. He couldn’t deny that the last thing he wanted to do now was have a serious conversation. He really just wanted to curl up into someone’s arms and sleep for eternity. But he knew that it was important to confront Gerard straight away before Bob’s absurd accusations could manifest in his mind and make him believe them.
Of course he knew that Gerard hadn’t been at his house that morning. Or if he had then he certainly hadn’t been the thing to kill his dad. The police had made it quite clear, it was an animal attack. It was just an awful, freak occurrence and Frank would be over it in time.
Gerard turned to glare at Bob as Frank tugged him out the room, the blonde boy gazing back with a calm expression but Gerard could sense easily how afraid he was. He could hear his heart racing even as the door shut and Frank pulled him into the guest bedroom that they would be sharing.
Frank turned Gerard round and crossed his arms, leaning against the door for a moment before his stern expression melted and he sighed, bowing his head. “Gee I... God, I don’t know what to think right now.” He admitted softly, his tough facade he had been trying to create just crumbling before he could even complete it. His mind was in turmoil, far too much had happened, his world had already fallen too far and he was terrified of finding out that Bob was right. It would crush the only thing he had left and the thought made his heart jump erratically.
“What’s wrong?” Gerard asked softly, pretending to be clueless as he watched Frank walk to the centre of the room and push his hands into his hair. He gripped at the dark locks and scratched at the shaved sides, his beautiful eyes full of pain and confusion. Gerard felt the first stirrings of guilt tug in his chest but he banished them way. Just because Frank was upset didn’t mean he had done anything wrong.
“Frankie?”
“Bob says he saw you coming out of my house this morning.”
Frank didn’t mean to just blurt it out as bluntly as that but his emotions were strained far enough as it was and he had no time to be delicate. He needed Gerard to shake his head with that fond smirk of his, to maybe even laugh a little and then hold Frank tight to him as he told him to stop being so paranoid and trust him. Frank loved Gerard so much; he didn’t care if the vampire never said it back. Gerard had made Frank question his motives many times but never had Gerard actually done something that made Frank realise he was a fool for trusting him. And now as going to be another one of those times. Of course it was. It had to be...
“Really?” Gerard replied softly, watching Frank carefully as he wondered what the human was thinking. It was so difficult to tell with some people, and Gerard had never seen Frank this upset. He didn’t know how to analyse him. “What makes him so sure?” He asked delicately, Frank’s eyes going wide and Gerard bit his lip.
“Well he... he just says he saw you.” Frank mumbled, his hands gripping tighter at his hair as he stared at Gerard.
Why hadn’t he denied it? Why hadn’t he laughed, or smirked or... or done anything to show Frank that he was being stupid for so much as considering that Bob could be right!? Frank didn’t have the strength to go round the houses with this, he just needed the truth.
“Gee he didn’t see you. He couldn’t have... could he?” He asked desperately, his eyes wide as they searched the vampires. Gerard gazed calmly back, his face giving nothing away and he saw Frank’s temple pulse at the same time as he heard his heart pick up in pace. “Gerard!?”
“Of course he didn’t see me Frankie.” Frank frowned at the vampire, his voice soft and delicate, his eyes open and honest, but Frank knew how good of an actor Gerard could be. “I was with you this morning, remember?” The vampire purred, Frank wanting so badly to just take that and drop the subject. But his heart continued racing erratically and he could feel fear dripping through him as he became more and more paranoid.
“Not at the time Bob said he saw you. I was asleep... you might not have been there.” He whispered, staring at Gerard with wide eyes and parted lips. Gerard was watching him with a look of some curiosity; there wasn’t an ounce of sympathy or shock in his gaze. He didn’t seem to care that Frank was upset, he didn’t give a damn that Bob was accusing him of murder. He was just calm... too calm.
“What are you trying to ask me exactly Frankie?” Gerard purred softly, Frank biting his lip and fidgeting a little. He didn’t want to ask it bluntly... that would mean he was actually considering it was true and it just couldn’t be. He didn’t think he’d be able to handle it if it was.
“Were you at my house this morning Gerard?” He eventually asked, stepping forward to look closer at his boyfriend, their gazes locked. “Could Bob have seen you?” He breathed, already seeing the answer in Gerard’s eyes. The vampire may have been a good actor, and Frank supposed in some ways he had been naive, but he could just about see the truth flickering in Gerard’s hazel irises, and Gerard knew it.
“I... suppose he could have.” Gerard drawled, deciding honesty was probably going to be the best policy on this one. If Frank knew what was good for him then he would just drop it, and if he didn’t then... well, that would be unfortunate. Gerard knew he hadn’t done anything wrong, hell, he had helped Frank by getting rid of his father. The human should be grateful. Besides, Gerard wouldn’t be able to lie forever if Bob was so certain that he had seen him. Frank would only grow more and more suspicious as time went on, and Gerard knew that telling the truth would hardly destroy what he and Frank had. And even if it did then he shouldn’t care. He had already fallen too much for the human and that was just plain careless. Maybe losing him would be a good thing. Predators aren’t supposed to love their prey anyway.
It took Frank a long while to properly process what Gerard had said, his mind so busy expecting the vampire to deny it that he couldn’t believe it when he didn’t. He frowned and bit his lip, hesitating with his foot in the air when he had been about to step closer, changing his mind and instead staying where he was. “What... What do you mean?... You were there this morning?” He breathed, Gerard shrugging.
“I went to see your dad. It was only a little visit.” He said honestly, Frank’s heart missing a beat before it went even faster. Gerard could hardly believe the poor guy hadn’t had a heart attack yet it was beating so fast, though it was making Frank breathless and he clutched at his chest as he began to pant softly.
“You... You went to visit...” He shook his head, not sure he was hearing this properly. Why hadn’t Gerard told him? What was he had to hide?
Frank knew exactly what he had had to hide.
“So it was you?” He breathed, staring at Gerard in horror. The vampire’s face remained neutral as he watched Frank carefully for his reaction, the human’s breathing growing heavier still until he was almost hyperventilating. “No... N – NO!” He gasped, his fist squeezing his shirt as he clutched at his chest, feeling his heart pounding against his palm. “You didn’t... y- you... you wouldn’t!”
“Wouldn’t I?” Gerard challenged, quirking an eyebrow at Frank. “You know what I am...” He reminded him softy.
“But he... he was my dad...” Frank croaked, stumbling backwards until his back hit the wall and tears began to make tracks down his cheeks. “He was my DAD!” He screamed, sinking down to sit on his haunches as he began to sob.
He couldn’t believe it... he couldn’t believe it. How could Gerard do that to him? Why would he do that to him? Frank would have given him anything, if he was hungry he could have just drank Frank’s blood. He knew that so why did he do it?
Gerard watched Frank with a carefully emotionless face. His fists clenched loosely at his sides and he sighed softly. He hated to see Frank upset, but knowing it was him who had caused it made him feel worse, and that frightened him. Gerard had never felt so awful about killing someone before, and he killed men who were ten times the man Frank Sr. was before.
“I was only trying to help.” He whispered almost shamefully, Frank tilting his head up to look at him, his hands curled beneath his chin as he sobbed.
“Help? HELP!?” He snarled, his chest heaving with the force of his tears. As if losing his father wasn’t bad enough, to find out it had been Gerard who had killed him was even worse. He hadn’t even killed him delicately, he had completely massacred him like some beast who doesn’t know better. “How could you killing my only family possibly help!?” He shouted, his voice thick with tears.
“He hurt you!” Gerard cried, as if that explained everything and he walked to Frank, ignoring the way he flinched away from him as he knelt down infront of him. “He hurt you Frankie.” He breathed, delicately reaching out to touch Frank’s cheek that was littered with scabs, Frank choking in horror and shoving Gerard’s hand away.
“Frank...” Gerard whispered pleadingly, trying to kiss at the wounds. “He hurt you baby... I hated him for it. And so did you. Remember what you said? You said you hated him too.” He breathed, his voice soft and coaxing, trying to twist Frank’s mind into agreeing with him. Frank almost did too, his eyelids fluttering to close as Gerard’s silky lips touched the first scab and he sighed. The soft exhale of air seemed to echo in his ears and he yelped, snapping back to his senses and he shoved Gerard hard away from him. Of course he knew he was far too weak and human to push Gerard back if the vampire didn’t want him too, but Gerard politely humoured him and stumbled back.
“Frankie?”
“You killed him because I said I hated him? Are you insane Gerard?” He spat, trying hard to stop more sobs from wracking his body but he couldn’t stop. This was it, the final string holding up his world was about to snap and send it all crashing down. He was about to lose the one person he had loved the most. “I didn’t hate him, I was angry! People say stupid things when they’re angry! But you wouldn’t know about that would you? Because you’re a vampire and killing people is how you solve all your problems! I surprised you don’t just kill me sometimes!” He cried, Gerard staring at him in surprise.
“What?” He breathed, simply stunned. He knew humans could come out with really weird stuff sometimes but that was strange. In that moment nothing seemed more absurd than killing Frank. That had never been an option, no matter how cruel he could be he could never kill Frank. Frank was just... Frank was... “You’re everything to me.”
“SHUT UP!” Frank shouted, his hands tugging at his hair in horror at those words. He stared at Gerard in horror, his heart breaking. It was the closest Gerard had ever come to saying he loved him and Frank couldn’t stand it. He didn’t want his father’s murderer saying things like that.
“Frankie –”
“I hate you.” Frank snarled, his shoulders and chest heaving as he began to sob harder and he clamped a hand over his mouth, Gerard’s face twisting in genuine pain. Frank wanted to believe he was just acting again but he could see he wasn’t... Frank had hurt him... he had actually hurt Gerard. “Get out...”
Gerard stared at Frank in shock for a moment, a weird feeling cutting through his chest. If his heart had been beating it would have missed a beat. He hadn’t expected those words to hurt so much... but they did. It felt like death... the bad kind of death. The kind he would have had if Darius hadn’t turned him into a vampire which, frankly, is kind of orgasmic. It felt like being tortured and hanged and beaten black and blue all at the same time.
“What?” He whispered, his lips trembling as he fought back the urge to cry. He refused to show how deeply Frank had hurt him, knowing it was just ridiculous to feel so pained by it. It was only Frank. It wasn’t like he was anything special.
“I said get out.” Frank repeated as firmly as he could, forcing himself to look at Gerard even though seeing the battle of emotions raging through the vampires eyes killed him too. Part of him wanted to take back everything he had said and curl up in Gerard’s arms, to apologise and kiss him all night long. But then he would think of what the police had said, would imagine his father’s massacred corpse and he found the strength to get to his feet.
“Get out Gerard.” He demanded, taking a deep breath to steady his sobs for a moment as Gerard stared up at him with mortified eyes. For a second Frank’s head span from the force of the imagery, Gerard kneeling before him and looking up at him for a change, Frank gazing steadily down at him like a master to a slave. “Get. Out.”
Gerard didn’t know what to say, didn’t know how to change what was happening. He hadn’t expected this and hearing Frank say he hated him had made all of his strength and conviction disappear like it had never existed. He felt small and foolish, ashamed of himself. He opened his mouth to beg Frank to change his mind. To tell him he loved him and couldn’t lose him... but the words wouldn’t come and so he simply sighed, bowing his head as he got to his feet.
“I was only doing the right thing.” He breathed, Frank snarling and shaking his head in disgust before he pushed past Gerard – about as easy as pushing past a brick wall – and stormed out of the room without another word. He knew Gerard would leave the house and sure enough as he made his way back into Bob’s room he heard the vampire walk slowly down the stairs and then the sound of the front door slamming as he left.
>X<
Bob was silent when Frank came back into the room, the shorter man already sobbing freely as he dashed back to the bed and into Bob’s waiting arms. He didn’t say anything and neither did Bob, both of them remaining silent as Bob held Frank tight and kissed his hair, tears in his own eyes.
Bob didn’t know if Frank realised but he had heard everything. The guest bedroom was just next door so there was only one wall separating them, and Frank and Gerard’s voices had drifted freely to Bob without difficulty. The blonde hadn’t tried to listen in, but it was impossible for him not to hear, especially when they had started shouting. He still felt in shock from all he had heard, one word buzzing round his head like a swarm of angry bees.
Vampire.
That word again. The thing Mr Brown had been harping on about all the time. To hear Frank call Gerard something like that had stunned Bob like nothing more. He didn’t want to believe it but then he had had his fair share of unbelievable things happen already. Technically he should be dead... but if he could survive a slit throat without so much as a mark then who was to say that Gerard couldn’t possibly be a vampire? It was absurd but Bob supposed he just had to accept it. Either way it was clear now that Gerard had been at Frank’s house that morning but no animal ever had. Bob knew he had seen him but it still shocked him to hear the truth and so he couldn’t imagine how Frank must be feeling.
“Shh shh... it’s okay. I’m here...” Bob whispered as he held the shorter man, Frank clinging to Bob as his heart ached. He couldn’t believe he had actually kicked Gerard out. He couldn’t believe he had cut that final tie. He loved the vampire, but he knew he shouldn’t... he wanted to go to Gerard, but he knew he wouldn’t. He would never go back to him again.
Bob sighed and held Frank as he cried, spending hours just cuddling him. He would never let Frank go to Gerard ever again. He had done the right thing now and called everything off, and now Bob would do everything he could to protect Frank. Mr Brown had been right... Gerard was bad news, and neither he nor Frank would be safe until the vampire was completely out of the picture.

The night went by in a daze for Frank, tears never far from falling down his cheeks. He laid in Bob’s arms until Christine called them down for dinner, Frank trying to persuade Bob to let him just stay in the room but the blonde insisted that Frank needed to eat. Both of them needed their energy and so Frank reluctantly joined him in going down to the kitchen and eating the meal Christine had cooked them.
Bobs mum tentatively asked about where Gerard was but dropped it when Frank burst into the tears. Frank knew that both her and Bob were trying to be delicate with him, knowing he was grieving and that his argument with Gerard was only making things worse but he wished they would just treat him like normal. The sympathetic looks Christine kept giving him only served to remind him about everything that happened and make him even more depressed.
After dinner Frank took a long shower just to get some time alone. He was surprised Bob didn’t insist in sitting in the bathroom with him from how protective he was being but thankfully the blonde only went back to his bedroom to wait. Frank thought long and hard about everything as he showered though he felt just as messed up as he had when he went in. He just didn’t know what to do anymore, he felt completely lost. He hated Gerard for what he had done to him and yet deep down he knew that the only person who could help him now was the vampire... he loved him. He needed him. Bob was his best friend and yet it was Gerard’s arms he ached to feel wrap around him.
After his shower Frank spent the rest of the night resting in Bob’s arms, crying softly into his shirt and apologising over and over through his tears. Bob wished he knew how to help him, but he knew nothing he said now would help his friend. He only hoped that after Frank Sr.’s funeral (which Christine had promised Frank she would organise, to save him just some of the pain) things would slowly turn back to normality. He wasn’t sure if Frank would ever want to return to his house but he decided they would just have to worry about that at a later date.
The night dragged as Frank cried and mewled, and by the time sleep finally came to take him it was a great relief. He closed his eyes and fell gratefully into slumber as he stayed curled up in Bob’s arms, only an hour or so after Christine had poked her head round the door to say goodnight herself. The house was dark and silent and Frank’s tears were still wet on his cheeks by the time he finally drifted into unconsciousness.
Bob sighed with relief when he realised Frank was snoring quietly in his arms and he gently shifted him to lie down in the bed. He didn’t mind sharing his bed with Frank for the night, in fact he preferred that idea than having Frank sleep alone. He wanted to make sure he didn’t wake up from nightmares or anything and so he happily snuggled down beside him, slipping his arms around his waist.
Frank looked beautiful as he slept, his wet cheeks glistening a little and Bob used his sleeve to tenderly wipe the tears away. He kissed Frank’s forehead and sighed into his hair, whispering a soft ‘love you Frankie’ before he settled down to sleep himself. But just as slumber was about to take him something woke him up.
“Gerard...” Bob’s eyes fluttered open and his eyebrows furrowed as he looked at Frank. The shorter man was still sleeping, his lips pouted a little before he whispered Gerard’s name again. “I love you... come back... Gerard...” Bob’s blood ran cold as he listened to Frank’s gentle sleep talking, his mind beginning to whirl. He thought Frank would be having nightmares about him hurting him. Not nightmares about him not coming back. This was bad... this was really bad. If Bob knew Frank as well as he thought he did then Frank’s dream was everything he needed to work out what Frank would do next and he couldn’t allow that to happen. He needed to protect him... he needed to stop him from falling back into Gerard’s clutches..
Bob was silent as he slipped out of the bed, careful not to wake Frank as he tucked him in beneath the sheets and gently kissed his cheek. He wanted nothing more than to sleep himself but he knew he might not have time to do this in the morning and so he had no choice but to stay up just a little longer.
“Don’t worry Frankie...” He whispered softly as he gazed at his sleeping form. “I’m gonna protect you.”
>X<
By the time Frank had finished his breakfast he had made up his mind.
Waking up that morning had been one of the hardest things he had ever had to do. First everything had been fine, it was just like any other day. But then he wondered why he had a strange hollow feeling in his chest and his grief had smacked him hard like a wrecking ball as he remembered his father’s death. Then he had instantly remembered who had killed him and the grief had increased tenfold, all laced with a bitter over shadow of hatred for himself because he knew all night he had dreamt about Gerard. Dreamt about his father’s murderer and missed him.
Frank knew he shouldn’t but he wanted to see Gerard again. He told himself he wouldn’t apologise but he couldn’t deny that he was going to try and work things out. He couldn’t get through this without him and he didn’t even want to try. Of course he knew that Bob and Christine would help him and comfort him in every way they could but it would never be enough. He needed Gerard.
Bob watched Frank from the table as he got up and tugged on his shoes and jacket without a word, acting casual as he smoothed out his clothes and unravelled his iPod headphones. Christine glanced over from washing up the breakfast things, biting her lip.
“Frankie? You going somewhere honey?” She asked gently, Frank biting his lip as he looked up at her, Bob frowning at him from the table.
“Oh I... I’m just gonna go for a walk if that’s okay? I just need some time to... sort my head out.” He said softly, Christine looking as if she wanted to argue but she eventually sighed and nodded, forcing a smile.
“Okay honey... don’t be long okay?” She smiled and Frank nodded, promising he wouldn’t be as Bob got to his feet.
“Hey Frankie, can I come too?” He asked, Frank looking at him in surprise for a second before he stuttered a little.
“Oh well.. Erm... Maybe later... I just... Just need some me time right now.”
“Don’t bother him Bob, you go on Frankie.” Christine smiled and Frank thanked her softly, putting his headphones into his ears and turning his music up loud as he left the house.
Bob huffed a little moodily but it was nothing that he hadn’t expected so he jumped to his feet quickly. He thanked his mum for the breakfast and kissed her cheek before he told her was going to sit in the garden for a while. Christine nodded and let him know she was going to the funeral directors to start arranging Frank Sr.’s send off before she left to get on her shoes. Bob grunted to acknowledge he had heard before he tugged on his converse and ran out into the garden.
Bob’s garden was only small and at the back there was a little wooden shed that had been there when they moved in. The shed was full of useless garden tools and random odd bits like chipped garden gnomes and some old paint tins where all the paint had dried up. Bob had spent hours in there in the night hacking away at a broom handle and he went to retrieve it now.
Inside the shed it was dark and dusty, cobwebs strung across the ceiling but Bob ignored them. It had been freezing in here in the night but it hadn’t got much warmer in the sun either. Bob didn’t think on it though as he seized what was left of the broom handle and slipped it into the kangaroo pouch of his hoody.
Bob had cut off the end of the handle so that it was about a foot or so long. He had then chipped at the end with his pen knife until it had become pointed and sharp. It didn’t look much like the impressive stakes you saw in the movies but it would have to do. Bob couldn’t believe he was even considering using the damn thing, he only hoped his courage wouldn’t desert him when the moment came.
Bob’s knowledge of vampires was extremely limited, he hadn’t even read Dracula or seen any of the movie adaptations. He had heard of Twilight but decided he hated it without ever watching a single second of the movie or so much as glancing at the book. He had read the Blade comics though, and watched half of Van Helsing, and of course he knew about vampires because... well... just because. Everyone did didn’t they? And he was pretty sure it was common knowledge that the only way to kill a vampire was a stake to the heart.
Bob shuddered and shook that thought out of his head as he jogged round the side of the house to the street outside and looked about for Frank. He couldn’t see him but he knew where he would be going so he began making his way to the woods at a steady jog. He never liked exercise, and he was still weakened from his ordeal with the slit throat but he pushed himself to move, knowing he was the only chance Frank had now.
It didn’t take him long to spot the shorter man and he slowed to a walk once he had. Frank had his back to him and his head phones in, clearly lost in his music. Bob knew he didn’t have to worry about Frank hearing him, but he was careful to sidle along walls and dodge behind cars and bins whenever he could just in case Frank looked back. He felt like a stalker and hoped no one else in the town spotted him, but luck was on his side as they reached the woods in good time with no one around. Bob guessed that was because it was so early but a little part of him wondered if fate was giving him a helping hand too.
Frank didn’t even hesitate as he stepped into the woods, following the same trail he had almost every day now, his head bowed and his hands thrust into his pockets. He was walking with clear determination and Bob’s heart hammered as he tried to follow. He himself hesitated for a second once he reached the trees, staring into the darkness and biting his lip. He knew Frank was convinced that there was nothing bad in the woods but Bob had grown up terrified of them just like everyone else and right now the last thing he wanted to do was face his fears... but he forced himself to remember that he didn’t have any other choice. He needed to follow Frank and keep him safe, he wasn’t going to lose him this time; and as Frank disappeared into the darkness Bob stole his courage and darted into the trees with a frantic heart.
He calmed down a little once he spotted Frank again and kept a steady distance between them, looking around in fear and being sure to stay in the shadow of the trees so he could hide behind one if Frank looked back, but it was soon becoming clear that the shorter man was far too lost in his own thoughts and his destination to consider glancing over his shoulder.
For a short while the two men walked through the trees, Frank oblivious to Bob’s presence as he listened to his music and thought about how desperate he was to see Gerard. With every step he took on the path the pain inside him lessened just a little, his lungs opened just a bit more, his breathing became slowly easier, his chest less strained... He couldn’t wait to fall into Gerard’s arms and have everything feel perfect again.
When he reached the wall of branches Frank stepped through them without even looking at them, so used to the strange illusion that he didn’t think on it anymore and his heart jumped for joy when he saw the manor. The relief that washed over him was like a sweet tsunami and he almost sobbed in happiness. Gerard was only seconds away now and God, how he needed him.
On the other side of the wall of branches Bob was stuck.
Bob shook his head slowly and rubbed at his eyes, staring in confusion at the ominous looking wall of closely interwoven thick branches. It was covered with leaves and vine, the whole thing so tightly knitted together it was clear this wasn’t a natural wall, that it had been made by someone to block people out. There were no gaps that Bob could see of and yet... Frank had walked through it. Bob began to seriously wonder if he was actually going crazy. Everything was far too strange... No sane person found themselves with a broom handle stake in their pocket watching a friend pass through a solid wall made of trees. They just didn’t. But Bob had seen it, and he couldn’t turn back now. If he lost sight of Frank completely he’d never forgive himself.
Feeling like a total idiot Bob slowly stepped forward, gingerly holding his hands out to push against the branches in the vain of hope of pushing them aside. But even though he continued walking, slowly and carefully, his fingers never met any resistance. The wall wasn’t solid... in fact, Bob barely even realised what was happening until he walked right through it. As if the whole thing was made of mist. He had felt some leaves and twigs brush his hands and face but nothing like what his eyes told him he should feel and he stopped, completely confused. How was this... how was any of this possible.
Bob was further stunned when he realised what was infront of him and he nearly fainted in shock at the magnificent manor taking up the space in the clearing he found himself in. There was no sign of Frank but Bob knew that was because this must be where Gerard lived, and that Frank had gone into the building.
“Oh my sweet holy balls...” Bob whispered, feeling as if he was rooted to the spot for a second. This was just too much to take in.
Inside the manor Frank was desperately looking for Gerard, his headphones out and his jacket lying on the floor from where he had thrown it off in his haste. Now he was inside the manor the desperation to see Gerard was almost overwhelming and he screamed for him impatiently.
“GEE! GEEEE!!”
“Frankie?” Frank skidded to a halt and spun round, sobbing in happiness when he saw Gerard, peeking at him from the doorway to the library. The vampire had been reading a book, trying to take his mind off everything when he had heard Frank’s frantic yelling and for a moment he had wondered if it was his imagination, making him believe Frank was there just because he wanted to see him so badly. But now he could see he really was here he was sure he had never felt more relieved in all of his existence. “Frankie you... what are you doing here?”
“I came to see you – Oh Gerard, I’m so sorry.” Frank sobbed, forgetting all about his promise to himself not to say sorry as he dashed to Gerard and flung his arms around him. “I love you so much, I can’t be without you. I just can’t Gee, I need you.” He mewled, burying his face into Gerard’s shirt and shivering in delight when the vampire’s strong arms wrapped around him and held him tight.
For a long moment Gerard was simply in shock, but it melted quickly as he realised what was happening and he sighed, nuzzling his face into Frank’s hair. He supposed he shouldn’t be surprised, he had known all along how much Frank loved him, could see how obvious it was that the human couldn’t live without him but... the truth was, he was shocked. He hadn’t expected Frank to come running back, he hadn’t even considered it. He had been too wrapped up in his sorrow that Frank had shoved him away like he had. He had actually spent the night crying over him and now he was back in his arms... well. Gerard couldn’t have felt happier.
“Frankie...” He whispered, smiling warmly and cuddling him closer. “Frankie I’m so glad you came back. I’m sorry too... so sorry...” He whispered, Frank crying a little as he looked up at Gerard and smiled weakly, seeing how genuine he was being.
“I wish you hadn’t killed him...” He said honestly, needing to make it clear that he still felt resentment towards Gerard for murdering his father. “But I... I still love you.” He sighed, shaking his head, knowing he was a fool for feeling this way but he couldn’t help it. He didn’t want to help it.
“Mm...” Gerard smiled warmly and felt little pieces of him clicking back into place; pieces he had thought he’d lost when Frank said he’d hated him, and the truth just slipped from his mouth before he could even think about it. “I love you too.” He sighed, Frank’s eyes growing wide.
Frank’s lip parted in surprise and was sure his heart stopped beating for a second before it melted all over his ribs. He gazed up at Gerard with teary eyes. He had longed to hear those three words for so long now he felt like they could kill him and he tiptoed up, grabbing the back of Gerard’s neck and pulling him down for a breathtaking kiss.
Gerard smiled softly against Frank’s lips and sighed, his stomach lurching as he realised what he had said. He thought about it for a millisecond, but then the feeling of Frank’s delicious lips suckling against his own made him forget it all and he realised he simply didn’t care. It was the truth and it was about time he admitted it. He couldn’t stop himself from loving Frank and he so he wouldn’t try anymore. The thought made him so indescribably happy and he held Frank tighter, kissing him tenderly and passionately as cupped his cheeks.
“Frankie?”
The two men broke apart in surprise, Gerard hissing angrily when he saw Bob stood in the doorway. He cursed himself for not hearing him approach, realising like he had before that when he allowed himself to truly get wrapped up in Frank his senses dulled until they were like those of a human, just blocking everything out so he could focus on the one he loved and now Bob had come to ruin the moment.
“Bob?” Frank stared at his friend in surprise, his arms still wrapped around Gerard, one leg half raised where he had been about to sling it around the vampires waist. Bob was staring at him in shock, his blue eyes swimming with anger and disappointment.
“Frank – what are you... what are you doing!?” He squeaked, Frank blushing and biting his lip as he untangled himself from the vampire and turned to face Bob properly, shrugging with a sheepish smile.
“I err... I didn’t... how did you find us?” He asked, suddenly realising that Bob was in the manor... the manor that was supposed to be hidden!
“You followed him!?” Gerard snarled, grabbing Frank round the waist and pulling him to stand behind him so that he could shield him from Bob. “Get out of here – you’re not welcome!” He growled threateningly, baring his teeth and Bob flinched, hesitating a second before he reached into his pocket and gripped the stake. Gerard followed the moment with his eyes, frowning when he saw that Bob was holding something and his body tensed in preparation. He guessed it was a weapon of some sort, but human weapons did nothing to him.
“Didn’t you hear me?” He whispered lowly, Bob biting his lip. “I said... get. Out!”
“Come on Frankie, let’s go.” Bob said softly, offering Frank his other hand but Frank only stared at him like he was crazy. It was nothing Bob hadn’t expected and he frowned, hating how easily Frank could just forget everything whenever he was with Gerard. “Frank –”
“Just go Bob, I’ll be okay.” Frank whispered, resting his hands on Gerard’s waist and Bob scowled at him, Gerard taking a step forward.
“I won’t ask you again Bob...”
“I’m not leaving without Frank.”
“Frank doesn’t want to go with you. Get out!” Gerard demanded, striding forward to throw the guy out himself but Bob ran forward to meet him, barrelling into Gerard and pushing with all his might until he had him against the wall. Gerard’s expression remained calm but Frank could see amusement in his eyes. Frank stood where he was, biting his lip nervously. He knew Gerard could crush Bob in seconds if he wanted to and after having killed his dad Frank didn’t want Bob risking his life.
“Bob just leave!” He begged, Bob snarling as he gripped Gerard’s shirt and gripped the stake, pulling it out of his pocket and into view. Behind him Frank gasped loudly.
“Bob!?”
“Really Bob?” Gerard smirked, looking down at the crude looking stake and laughing in Bob’s face, making the blonde flinch. “You come to kill me Bob?”
“You killed Frank’s dad!” Bob shouted back, Frank staring in horror, wondering if he should try to intervene but Gerard threw him a look that told him not to get involved so he stayed where he was, trembling lightly.
“Bob don’t! Please don’t – he’ll only hurt you and you’ve been through enough.” He called, Bob scowling and ignoring his friend as Gerard chuckled softly.
“Listen to Frank Bob. Stop this nonsense and just go already.” He purred, Bob snarling and pressing the point of the stake to Gerard’s throat. Gerard tipped his head back just a little to relieve some of the pressure but he didn’t break his gaze from Bob’s.
“You can’t kill me Bob. You don’t have it in you. Can’t you see? Frank doesn’t care about what I did to his father –”
“Yes he does! He was crying all night because of it you bastard!”
“No Bob, please just go!”
“Yeah Bob. Go.” Gerard smirked and Bob felt his rage building. He couldn’t believe that Gerard was still patronising him even with a stake pressed to his throat and the urge to push it forward was almost overwhelming. God only knew it was what the dick deserved.
“Fuck you! FUCK YOU!” He shouted, going to punch Gerard in the face but the vampire easily caught his wrist before he could, laughing loudly. “Agh! Let me go!” He snarled, Gerard smirking and releasing his wrist.
“Gladly. Now get out of my house.” He demanded smoothly, Bob shaking his head with a growl.
“Ever since you came into his life you’ve been ruining mine!” He shouted, jabbing a finger at Frank without looking at him and Gerard completely fell about laughing, making Bob’s cheeks flame.
“Oh Bob!” Gerard laughed, patting Bob’s cheeks patronisingly and further pissing the blonde off. “Ruined your life? I saved your life...” He whispered, Bob scowling at him for a long moment before his eyes slowly grew wide.
“W – What?”
“Oh yeah...” Gerard nodded, leaning forward and pressing his lips to Bob’s ear. “That guardian angel of yours who saved your life the night you tried to kill yourself... that was me. Surprise.” He chuckled, Bob gasping in horror and his heart lurched, pain tearing through him. It... It couldn’t be true... his guardian angel. His angel was not this demon.
“YOU LIAR!” He roared, gripping the stake and spinning it through his fingers before he lunged forward and thrust it into Gerard’s chest with all his weight.
Gerard’s laughter was cut short as the wood pierced his ivory skin, sinking deep between his lungs and into his unbeating heart, is laughter turning into a choked scream as blood bubbled up from between Bob’s fingers. Bob’s eyes grew wide and his anger disappeared in an instant as he realised what he had done. He turned horrified eyes up at Gerard and cried out in fear as he saw the blood gushing up out of the vampire’s mouth, so dark it was almost black. Behind him, Frank began to scream.
“GERARD! GERARD! NO!!” Frank could hear a roaring in his ears as adrenaline shot through him, Bob stumbling back, covered in the black blood as Frank ran forward to catch Gerard as he slumped down the wall. “Gerard! Gerard!? Oh God Gee... Gee please talk to me! Gee!”
Gerard stared up at Frank with wide eyes, his irises slowly turning red, the red slowly bleeding into the whites of his eyes until they too were completely red, his pupils standing out like black pools. He tried to choke out Frank’s name, tried to speak to him as his shaking hands came up to grip at Frank’s shirt.
“U – Uugh...” He coughed and made sickening gargling noises as the blood bubbled up his throat, Frank sinking to his knees and clutching Gerard to him as he sobbed.
“Gee? Gee oh God, baby please... please Gee hold on. Don’t leave me... please God, don’t leave me.” Frank begged, trembling violently as he tried to help, his hands cupping Gerard’s face as his eyes closed and he shook and convulsed on the floor, the stake so deep in his chest Frank didn’t think he’d even be able to pull it out. “Gee? Gee!? Please, please Gee open your eyes!” He screamed, Bob’s hands suddenly grabbing at him and he screamed loudly, Gerard dropping from his arms.
“No! NO! NO! BOB LET ME GO – LET ME GO!” He roared, trying to wrestle out of Bob’s grip but the blonde was so much stronger than him, his hands slippery with blood as he pulled Frank into a bear grip and dragged him from the house, Frank screaming and kicking all the way. He didn’t take his eyes off Gerard, praying and begging for him to open his eyes, but the vampire wasn’t even moving anymore.
“Nooo.... noo...” Frank wailed, sobbing helplessly as Bob got him out of the manor and dropped onto the forest floor. Frank screamed and sobbed into the grass, Bob searching his pockets until he found the lighter. He ran back into the house and tried to ignore the horrendous sounds of Frank’s screams. He could hear clearly how much he was killing him but he couldn’t stop. This was for the best... he had to destroy Frank so that he could rebuild him.
Bob struggled to light the lighter, his bloody fingers slipping until he finally managed to ignite a flame and he ran to the silk drapes hanging at all the windows. It was lucky Gerard had such expensive (and flammable) taste. The flame bit onto the drapes with ease and they went up in flames quickly, Bob running round all the windows downstairs, lighting oil paintings and even the carpets before he ran back outside, the heat coming from the doorway burning his back. He threw the lighter down to the ground and hoisted Frank up, the shorter man now silent as he stared in horror at the manor going up in flames.
“I’m sorry Frankie, I’m sorry. I love you so much.” Bob choked, carrying Frank away and running back down the trail as Frank stared helplessly at the manor, the final pieces of his heart crumbling into ash along with Gerard’s body.
