The ride towards the Doctors wasn’t awkward, nor was it not tense. I could tell they were all worried, there was so much which could probably go wrong with this and I was as terrified as they were, more so, maybe.

“You okay?” Frank asked from beside me, squeezing my fingers. I nodded, sighing as I shuffled down the seat a bit so I was at the right height to rest my head on his shoulder.

“Which Doctor do you use, Gee?” Ray asked from the front.

“Belleville practitioner, why?” I asked, confused a little. There’s only one Doctor’s surgery in Belleville.

“I know that.” He rolled his eyes at me through the rear view mirror and then returned his yes to the road. “I meant, which Doctor, as in which person who works there?”

“Oh. I use Lexi.” I said.

“You’re on first name terms with your Doctor?” Bob asked, raising his eyebrow.

“Um, yeah. When you go to the Doctors as much as I have you kind of get to that stage.”
“Why? Do you have to go there a lot?” Frankie asked, his voice making his throat vibrate slightly against the top of my head.

“Well, there was the whole hermaphrodite thing, and then there was the depression and the alcohol and drug addiction. So I had my fair amount of visits.” I shrugged, clearing my throat nervously as we pulled into the Doctor’s car park. Oh what fun this will be.

“You okay? You’re looking kind ‘a pale.” Frank asked me, squeezing my hand as we got out of the car. I gulped, looking at the dreary and depressingly designed building with its grey bricks and graffiti covered signs.

“Gee’s always pale.” Mikey joked, taking a few steps towards me as his expression turned from light hearted to concerned. I found myself unable to move, frozen to the spot with a heavy beating heart.

“Gee? You okay?” Mikey asked, coming closer and placing a hand on my shoulder.

“I don’t want to do this Mikes!” I whimpered, backing further into the side of the car, my eyes wide.

“Come on, Gee, we’re all here. It’s going to be fine.” Frank promised, giving me a tight hug around the waist.

“I sure hope you’re right, baby.” I whispered back in his ear as he pulled away, lacing his fingers with my own and squeezing them encouragingly as we started the horrid walk towards the dreary Doctor’s building. Every step seemed to weigh me down more, filling me with dread of what’s to come as questions buzzed un-welcome in my already cramped mind.

What if the birth isn’t possible? What if you can’t have the baby? What if this whole thing is just you’re stupid male/female hormones contrasting and playing tricks on your own body?

I gulped quietly as Mikey opened the glass door and we all walked inside. The waiting room was filled with the usual, old people who were coughing and hacking up a hell load of horrid stuff into hankies, pregnant women and snot infested kids. Great.

“Can we see a Doctor please? It’s important.” Mikey asked and the fake tan-blonde-plastic-chewing gum-chav girl behind the desk raised her eyebrow.

“Which one of ya?” Her voice was thick with a Texas accent. Mikey and Frank pulled me from the back of the group to the front desk.

“Gerard.” Mikey told her and she nodded, tapping a few words on the keyboard.

“Last name?” She asked in a very bored tone.

“W-Way.” I stuttered and she nodded.

“Can I ask what the problem is so I can address you to the right doctor?” She drawled.

“He’s pregnant.” Mikey blurted, oh, well done. First prize for subtlety goes to Mikey Way. My cheeks went hot as the girl snorted.

“This is a doctors surgery, ya hear? We don’t want no hooligans coming in pullin’ all sort a’ tricks on us. Go on, skedaddle.” She laughed and I shrunk right back into Frank’s arms.

“OH FOR GOD’S SAKE!” Frank yelled from behind me as he wrapped his arms round my waist. For a moment I thought he was mad at me for being such a blushing screwed up wimp until he opened his mouth again.

“Check his damn medical records.” He snarled and the girl looked taken aback, eyes wide for a few seconds before she gave a brief nod and tapped away at the keyboard again.

“Ah…” She mumbled, nearly gawping at the computer screen before Mikey cleared his throat.

“Um, upstairs in room thirteen, Doctor Smith shall see you now.” She said and I nodded weakly, allowing Frank to pull me up the stairs. At least I know the Doctor, well, Lexi.

“You okay?” Frank asked, crouching down in front of me as I slumped on the ugly green plastic chair outside the much too familiar oak door.

“I don’t know. What if something goes wrong? What if it’s just my hormones playing up and tricking my body into thinking that it’s pregnant?” I gabbled, stopping myself before I could spew out even more frantic questions.

“Gee, it’ll be okay, I promise. No matter what, I’ll still love you.” Frank promised, cupping my cheek and rubbing a calloused thumb beneath my eye, calming me down as I let them slide shut, content. I heard the door open and jumped, nearly knocking Frankie over.

“Mr Way? I can see you now please.” Lexi said, her head poking just round the door. She hadn’t changed much, her face was still heart shaped and lightly tanned, she still had black ringed snake bites and her hair was still chopped to chin length and dyed neon pink. She was still a Doctor though.

Frank pulled me up and the other three followed into the room, ignoring Lexi’s suspicious glance. She closed the door behind us and leant against it.

“Hey, Gerard, haven’t seen you in a long time. So, what can I do you for?” She asked and I gulped, sliding down into one of the chairs in front of her desk as she took her seat behind it.

“I…uhh…well, I think I might be…pregnant?” I whispered, not meaning for it to come out as a question.

“And why would you think that?” She asked, lacing her hands together on the oak table and leaning forward, an inquisitive look on her angular features.

“Well I kind of missed a period, I’d been getting loads of mood swings, I’d been craving foods I normally hate and then Frankie went out and bought a pregnancy test…well, eight of them, actually, and they were all positive.” I explained, my palms sweating nervously as I fidgeted, Frankie taking my hand and squeezing it encouragingly.

“Well, we can run a test and then we’ll know for sure.” She smiled at me and I nodded.
“Wait.” Frank said and she nodded, signalling for him to continue. “Gee was told he can never have kids? So…y’know, why has this happened?” He asked and she sighed.

“The Doctor who told Gerard he’s a hermaphrodite obviously didn’t expect him to engage in a homosexual relationship because as Gerard said he still wanted to be considered as a man, the Doctor automatically assumed he was straight. This is obviously not the case and therefore Gerard has now fallen pregnant. I didn’t know this could happen either but it is the only rational explanation.” Lexi said and Frank nodded.

“Right. Go pee in that, Gee.” Lexi said, handing me a bottle thing as I blushed lightly and headed towards the bathroom.

Once I had done what I had to do I came back in the room and handed her the bottle, sitting down next to Frank and pulling him onto my lap so I have something to cuddle. I bit my lip nervously as she ran the sample through the machine and clicked some buttons on the computer.

“Well, you are indeed pregnant. Congratulations, can I ask who the Dad is? I’m supposing it’s the guy sitting on your lap but with you I just never know.” She laughed and I nodded.

“Cool, so I can do a scan now if you want just to check if everything’s okay or we can wait for the more traditional six week scan. But when have we been ones to follow tradition, eh?” She winked and I giggled.

“Do you want to see our baby?” Frankie asked and I nodded eagerly, the idea of pregnancy suddenly becoming all the more appealing.

“Right, go lay on the bed then and I’ll set up the shit.” I love her for that, just direct and to the point, she really does make my fear of Doctors a little less constricting when I do have to pay a visit.

“Do you want us to leave?” Bob asked, gesturing to himself, Mikey and Ray.

“No, of course not.” Frank said, stealing the words from my tongue before they could slide off of it.

“Awesome.” Ray grinned as I lay down on the white bed.

“I’m so excited!” Frankie squealed, taking my hand as he beamed excitedly.

“Me too!” I whispered, pulling him into a quick kiss before Lexi came back into the room with some goo in a pot.

“Ready?” She asked, walking over to the bed and placing the tub of see through jelly on the bed beside me. I nodded, biting my lip as she turned on the machine.

“Okay, just lift your top up for me please, this is going to be cold.” I dragged my T-shirt upwards so it was sitting just underneath my bust. She spooned the mixture on and I giggled, shivering slightly at the contact of the substance on my stomach.

Frank squeezed my hand and looked at me, smiling so brightly he could have passed off for a light bulb, everything about him just shone with excitement as she spread the cool goo over my stomach with the probe thing that was wired up to the machine.

It just looked like a load of wiggly lines until she moved a little further up and there was a tiny curled up shape just recognisable on the screen. So small it was hardly noticeable.

“Wow.” I breathed, a soft smile playing on my lips as I gazed at the screen.

“Is that our baby?” Frankie breathed, eyes glued to the screen.

“Yeah, let me just try and zoom in a little.” She said, twisting the piece of machinery on my stomach around a little and changing a control on the monitor.

“Oh My God…” Frank breathed and I snapped my eyes from him back to the screen.

“T-there’s two!?” I gasped, looking at Lexi desperately.

“Well, it looks like you’re having twins. Do you want a picture?” She asked, smiling at us warmly.

“Um…yeah, yeah.” I nodded, my face cold as stone and I felt my smile fade. A baby, yeah, sure. But twins? Dear lord.

“We’re having twins.” I squeaked, my throat constricting horribly.

“I know! I can’t believe this! I’m so happy!” Frank buzzed before noticing my expression and taking my other hand. “You do still want this, don’t you?” He asked quietly and I nodded without a thought.

“Of course. I’m just a little…shocked. I mean, a baby I can deal with but twins is going to be hell.” I mumbled, looking at my hands.

“It’s not Gee, I promise, we can take care of them.” He promised and I rolled my eyes.

“I know we can take care of them! You aren’t the one who has to push two damn human beings out from between your legs!” I nearly yelled, bursting into fits of laughter at the end with the look on Frank’s face.

“Babe, if I could do it for you, I would. But I can’t, so you’re going to have to do this yourself.” He told me, smiling lightly.

“ Come here, you.” I mumbled, yanking him into a hug on top of me.

“Ew! This stuff feels gross!” Frank whinged, jumping off me, and wiping at his shirt as Lexi walked into the room. I didn’t even notice she’d left.

“Here you go.” She smiled, handing us the little black and white sonograms.

“I think I’ll see you in two weeks as the babies seem to be developing a lot quicker than expected but I’m sure that’s nothing to worry about.” She smiled, wiping the jelly off my belly (he he, that rhymes).

“Oh…my…God!” I heard Ray squeak from beside Bob. Wow, I forgot those three were in here, they were so damn quiet.

“Um, are you three okay?” I asked, biting my lip nervously as Frank wrapped his arms around me.

“Y-yeah…just…wow.” Ray mumbled, leaning his head absentmindedly on Bob’s shoulder.

“Wow what?” Frankie asked.

“I didn’t think this was actually…possible.” Mikey whispered, his face pale and eyes wide.

“I thought it was just your hormones playing up or something, but…twins? Jeez.” Bob said, clearer than the others as his blue eyes pierced through the atmosphere to rest their gaze on me and Frankie.

“Well it can happen and it has.” I said, a little more defensively than I meant to.

“We’re not saying it’s a bad thing!” Mikey exclaimed, coming closer and hugging me before yanking himself back.

“How are you going to tell Mom?” He asked and my heart dropped into my stomach. She’d be happy, wouldn’t she?

“I’ll…cross that bridge when I come to it.” I decided.

“Um, could you guys like…go? ‘Cause I’ve got other patients.” Lexi interrupted and I nodded, turning on my heel and walking out of the door, Frankie’s hand in mine and the others following in my wake.

“I’m sure that your Mum is going to be fine with this, Gee.” Frank said, squeezing my hand tighter as he seemingly read my mind.

“I hope she is. We’ve never really talked about kids. I’m not sure if she talked to Mikey about it when I wasn’t around but I know that she never talked about grandchildren around me because she knew I couldn’t have any. Turns out, her first grandchild is soon to be born.” I mused, walking out of the exit and sliding into the driver’s seat of the car.

“Hey, pregnant people shouldn’t drive.” Mikey told me, pointing a finger accusingly in my direction. I couldn’t help but giggle, where the hell does he get these ideas from? Like taking an electric heater into the shower…multiple times.

“Mikey, what in the name of God’s baggy purple Y-fronts are you blathering on about? Get in the back.” Bob commented, slapping him round the back of the head. He seems to do that a lot to Mikey. Wait, everyone does that a lot to Mikey.

“I’m not the one who said ‘God’s baggy purple Y-fronts’.” Mikey scoffed, getting in the car anyway as I started the engine. Now, how do I break this to Mom…?

Okay, this took a ridiculously long time to update and I do actually feel really bad about it so I made this chapter a very long one. Hope you all like it and please rate and review ;D
