The room smelt of the usual; cigarette smoke blended in with the occasional smell of pot. The group of teens all sat in the old abandoned school building talking amongst one another, doing what they usually did every lunch time of their school lives. Naruto and Hinata, Shikamaru and Temari and Neji and Tenten sat to the left of the room cuddling and making out, doing what couples generally do. To the right of the room were Sakura and Ino, gossiping about the latest news and rumours which were circling around the school. Then, to the back of the room sat Kiba, Saskue and Kankurou. Each had a cigarette in their hands except for Saskue who had a joint. Sae-Lee sat to the side of the room by herself. It was already half way through lunch time and she had been introduced to everyone. They sat talking for ages before everyone decided to spread out and sit at their usual seating places across the abandoned room.
“You’ve been looking at her for the past ten minutes,” said Saskue as he took a drag from his joint.
“You mean, he’s been staring at her boobs for the past ten minutes…” added Kankurou. He and Saskue started laughing and Saskue rewarded him with a high five, before Kiba pushed him in jest.
“Shut up Kankurou,” he laughed. “I was going to go and talk to her, but as soon as Ino sees she’s going to freak out.”
“Why is Ino so against you being anywhere near her?” Asked Kankurou, leaning back against the wall while staring at the blonde across the room. ‘I mean, what’s her problem?”
“She thinks I’m this big bad boy with alcohol and drug problems, Pfft she just doesn’t know how to have fun.”
“But you do have a drug and alcohol problem?” laughed Saskue. Kiba laughed and nudged him in the ribs.
“But Sae-Lee doesn’t have to know that?” he said with a smirk. “But anyway, fuck what Ino thinks. I’ll have this girl wrapped around my finger in no time.” Kiba took one last draw of his cigarette and flicked it on the ground before walking over to Sae-Lee. The dark haired teen was seated on the ground reading some kind of book that Kiba wasn’t interested in at all, but he figured he should start conversation by asking anyway.
“Hey sexy, what’s that you’re reading?” he said with a smirk. Sae-lee didn’t even look up, but started laughing hysterically.
“Wow, Ino was right. You certainly do come on strong,” she laughed, her focus still concentrated on her book.
“Is that so? What else has that girl told you about me then?” Kiba sat down next to her, his back pressed against the brick wall. His ears were eager to hear about what other bullshit Ino would be spinning about him, so he suddenly became more interested in what Sae-lee was saying.
“Well,” she started, still looking at her book. “I’ve been told you like to drink a lot, you also like to smoke, you take drugs and apparently you’re a sleaze?”
Kiba laughed and put both of his hands behind his head. “Yep, that sounds about right. Ino sure knows how to put in a good word.” He tried his hardest to act like he wasn’t worried about the information Ino had told Sae-lee, but deep inside he was pissed.
“Yep, that’s my cousin for you.”
“How about putting that book down and talking to me? You’re too pretty to have your face buried in a book.”
She started laughing again, but this time shut her book and put it back inside of her school bag. “You can’t tell me you seriously pick up girls with those lines?”
Kiba was a little taken back; he didn’t know whether to take her honest antics as a joke, or if it was just her way of saying she wasn’t interested. But it didn’t matter which one it was because Kiba was not going to give up. He liked this one; it was a challenge for him. Most girls at the school would do anything to be with him except this particular girl, making it all the more exciting.
“Well it’s worked before, many times before.” He chuckled, admiring his previous ‘work’ on women in his head.
“Oh, is this the part where I’m meant to be impressed because of all the girls you’ve slept with?” Sae-lee laughed. “Consider me unimpressed, sorry Kiba.” She threw him a cheeky smirk before attempting to stand up and leave, but Kiba grabbed her hand to stop her.
‘Wait,” he said, smiling at his failed attempt to win sae-lee over. “What do I have to say that will impress you?”
“Why do you want to impress me Kiba?” Sae-lee smirked. Kiba liked her cheekiness, her sense of humour had already won him over because it was a lot like his.
“Because,” he paused to think for a bit, because ‘I wanna fuck you’ wasn’t exactly the answer that she would have approved of. “Because you’re hot, I’m hot, and we could see where it goes from there?”
Sae-lee was trying her hardest not to sound interested. She knew what Kiba’s game was all about, she wasn’t stupid. But she was determined to make this time at Konoha high fun and a little fun with Kiba wouldn’t hurt, would it?
But she wasn’t going to be easy. She was going to make Kiba work for her, and to do that she decided she would prove Ino and Sakura wrong. She thought that maybe Kiba should earn her and to do that, he would have to slowly change. “Ok,” she started, seating back down next to him. She turned to see if Ino and Sakura were watching her, but fortunately they were too busy caught in their gossip and rumours session. “If you really want to know where it could go from here,” she said, almost at a whisper. “You’ll do one thing for me, kind of like a test.”
Kiba leaned in closer, his heart pounding with excitement. “Oh yeah? And what would that be?” he said as he looked seductively into her intense green eyes.
“You’ll come to every class tomorrow. No ditching.”
“What?” he said in confusion. “What kind of test is that?”
“It’s just the first test,” she smirked. “But don’t worry, there’ll be plenty more where that came from.” And with that, the school bell echoed in the distance. Sae-lee grabbed her gear and exited the room with Ino and Sakura by her side. Kiba slowly pulled himself up and started to walk back over to where Kankurou and Saskue were watching him from, his head trying to except the fact that this girl was already in control of what he was doing. “Aww, no kiss goodbye?” teased Saskue as he finished the last of his cigarette.
“So I think this is going to be a bit harder than I thought,” Kiba mumbled as he scratched the back of his head. He was slightly confused and didn’t know what to make of the situation; he didn’t know if he was being controlled by this girl. His stomach felt like a knot. A mix of emotions circled his head, but confusion was the one which overwhelmed him.
“What? A challenge for Kiba Inuzuka?” added Kankurou sarcastically.
“She said that I have to attend every class tomorrow. What the fuck?”
“Dude, she has you whipped already,” Saskue picked up his school bag and started to exit the building. “Is this chick really worth attending class for? First it’s the whole attending class thing, and who knows what she’ll have you doing next.”
Kiba shook his head. “Whatever dude, I’m not going to be ‘whipped’ by this girl, she’ll be the one falling for me, like every other girl in the school.” A determined smirk spread across his face as the three students left the building. “Just you wait.”

“Are you sure you don’t want to come?” asked Ino in a disappointed tone. The school day had just finished and like every other Tuesday afternoon Ino, Sakura and the rest of the girls would head over to Sakura’s place to study for the afternoon, although all they usually did was talk. Sakura and Ino thought it would be good for Sae-lee to join them for it gave them more time to get to know each other more. But Sae-lee had a lot on her mind, a lot to think about after her first day at Konoha High. She really liked the school and the people in it, but it was a very big change from her previous life back at her old school.
“Nah it’s fine, I’m feeling kinda tired. I promise I will come next Tuesday though?” she replied with a smile. Sakura and Ino understood that she probably needed time to adapt to her new life at Konoha so they agreed to let her spend the afternoon to herself. With a hug goodbye, Sae-lee walked in the opposite direction to her new best friends and into a moderately busy street leading to her house in the middle of town. She didn’t exactly like this part of the neighbourhood for it reminded her of her house back home. This part of Konoha was full of the town rejects; the ones that would sit out in front of botte shops, be found lying in gutters, having street fights or just staring dumbly into empty space because they were so drugged up on drugs and alcohol that they couldn’t function properly.
The street seemed dark, and the people in it all seemed to stop what they were doing to watch Sae-lee walk by herself down the stained cemented footpath. Her heart started to race as all eyes were focussed on her. Get a grip Sae, she thought to herself. You’ve practically grown up with this kind of stuff. It’s no different to your house back home.
Sae-lee lifted her head and kept walking. As she neared the end of the street, the footpath veered into two; one path heading straight towards her home street, and the other into an alley beside and old abandoned bar. The building was large and deserted and looked as if it was only inches away from being in total ruins. The alley beside it appeared even darker than the street itself, with a few trash cans and a fence enforcing a dead end at the very back of the narrow strip. Sae-lee continued to walk past the neglected bar with heart her set on getting home safely. Against the wall of the building stood a boy, or a man, it was hard to tell. Sae lee tried not to look at him as she walked past but it was obvious that he was eyeing her. The tall boy looked her up and down with his eyes feasting on her smooth, partly exposed skin. Up and down they wandered, his mind pondering vicious thoughts that he could easily do to this girl who was alone and helpless as she walked uneasily down the street.
She couldn’t help it; she could feel him looking at her so she had no choice but to look back. Her chest squirmed as her eyes rested upon the dirty teenager – or was he older? She didn’t know, and frankly, she didn’t want to know either. His hair was messy, obviously dirty and he had some facial hair. He wore a black hat, stained, torn and pulled backwards. His black oversized hoodie made his figure look tall and intimidating.
He smiled a sickly smile that sent shivers running down her back. “Nice,” he mumbled, loud enough for her to hear. She didn’t say anything. She shook her head with revulsion and focussed her eyes back on the path in front of her. Even as she past him, she could still feel him watching her. Just shrug it off; he’s nothing to worry about. He’s just some drugged up bum, looking for something he’s never going to get she thought as she tried to reinsure herself. Sae-lee took a deep breath and continued to walk up the steep slope at the bottom of her street to reach her house. In other thoughts, a different issue that was casually crossing her mind was Kiba Inuzuka. She couldn’t help but laugh at his attempts to get in with her today, the attempts that she turned down and crushed oh so easily. She didn’t think he was a loser. She actually thought he was very good looking. To some people, cockiness and arrogance is a turn off, but in Sae-lee’s case it wasn’t. Confidence was good. Over confidence is eh, OK, but nothing she would turn down.
Kiba was different. Sure, there are a lot of cocky guys who love themselves out there, but there was something about Kiba that kept Sae-lee interested. Maybe it was his care free attitude, scruffy bad boy look, his confidence; all things these things attracted her to him. But like any other boy, there were things she wanted to change. Kiba’s obsession with drugs and alcohol was one of them. She didn’t know him anywhere near enough to see how bad he really was, but the stories Ino and Sakura had told her were enough to have a fair idea.
So instead of falling into Kiba’s trap and sleeping with him instantly, or giving him what it is he wants, why not play the game differently? Sae-lee was a girl who liked to do things her way. And her way involved him working for and earning everything she could possibly give him. Her plan was to slowly change Kiba, slowly shape the way he thrives off drugs and alcohol, change the way he treats girls, change the way he lives – for the better. She wasn’t just going to change Kiba; she wanted him to still stay the person he was,
she was just going to save him.
