I never thought
That the things I had done
That I so solemnly regret
Would still affect me today.
I never gave a second thought
To entertain the idea
That the things I had done
Had broken me quite so much.
I never thought in a million years
That the things I had done
Would affect my future
And the way I interact
With the people I love.
I always imagined
I could put it all behind me
Pretend it never happened
Once I found a reason to stop.
Yet once I did
It felt so wonderful
Until the shadows
Of what of I’ve done
Clouded my thoughts
And plagued my heart.
It’s unexplainable
The way I feel
When I’m sitting here
Tears running down my face
Because the things I’ve done
Are still inside me.
And I don’t ever think
They’ll truly leave.
That the things I had done
That I so solemnly regret
Would still affect me today.
I never gave a second thought
To entertain the idea
That the things I had done
Had broken me quite so much.
I never thought in a million years
That the things I had done
Would affect my future
And the way I interact
With the people I love.
I always imagined
I could put it all behind me
Pretend it never happened
Once I found a reason to stop.
Yet once I did
It felt so wonderful
Until the shadows
Of what of I’ve done
Clouded my thoughts
And plagued my heart.
It’s unexplainable
The way I feel
When I’m sitting here
Tears running down my face
Because the things I’ve done
Are still inside me.
And I don’t ever think
They’ll truly leave.
