Frank’s POV
“Korse,” hissed Sarah.
“Hello, daughter,” the man smirked.
“What have you done to them!” she screamed.
“You ask as if this is a bad thing,” he said, sounding genuinely shocked.
“Well sorry that I can’t see a good side to drugging people into submission!” she hissed.
“You don’t see what we have accomplished? All around the world, people are being fed these pills, they take away all anger, all sadness, they take away these trivial emotions that have ruined this world,” he ‘explained.’
“You’ve taken everyone’s originality! Look at them!” I yelled, helping Sarah, I pointed to the others, “sure, they’re not sad, but they’re not happy either! Sure you may have taken anger and sadness from this world, but you have taken everything good along with it!”
“You will accompany me back to the school where we will give you a dose of the pills, then all your anger will leave you, and you will be at peace,” he said calmly.
“I don’t think so!” yelled Lindsey.
“You will come with me, or you will die,” he said mater-of-a-factly. He walked up to Sarah and grabbed her by the arm.
“Let go of her!” I screamed. She was struggling against his strong grip.
I launched myself at him. I felt his fist slam into the side of my face. I gasped at the pain it caused me. Something came flying towards us and knocked Korse of me. Lindsey. She sat on his chest as she slammed her fists into his face.
“Don’t. Ever. Try. To. Hurt. My. Friends. You. Freak!” She screamed at him in-between punches.
Korse pushed Lindsey off as he struggled to get up.
“You are not my father, not anymore,” Sarah hissed as she kicked him back down, she walked to the car and got in the driver’s seat. We followed.
Korse just stared after us in shock as we sped out of the school.

Sarah’s POV
I felt hot tears slide down my face as I drove away from the school, away from the father that had left me so many years ago, and then came back... and betrayed me. I had dreamed of him coming back, of our family being whole again, now that dream was shattered. I hated him.
“Where to?” I asked through gritted teeth.
Silence, I looked into the revision mirror to see Frank and Lindsey shaking the others, trying to get some reaction from them.
“Guys! If they’re gonna snap out of it, it will be in their own time! We need to figure out what we’re gonna do!” I screamed at them. They looked at me, shocked at my sudden burst of outrage.
“Oh... uh, well Mr. Bryar said to go to the mountains out past the desert, I guess we should do that,” said Frank.
“Okay, so supplies?” I asked.
“Uh, well, we could get a fair bit from Ray’s place, and loads from mine, Gee’s and Mikey’s place might have some useful stuff, Lindsey? What about your place?” asked Frank.
“Uh yeah, my mum should be home as well...” she said.
“Sarah?” he asked me. I tried to hold back the tears.
I failed.
“Sh-she works for them!” I cried, “she knew this was going to happen! She helped to make this horrible thing happen!”
I couldn’t help but hate her, my mother and father, the two people who are supposed to love you unconditionally, had betrayed me, they had betrayed everyone. I hated them.
“Okay, we won’t go to your house,” he said, putting a comforting hand on my shoulder. I blinked away the tears and concentrated on the road.
“No, mum won’t be home, and there’s some stuff I need to get,” I said as I turned into my street.
I parked the car and we ran inside, trying to get in and out of there as fast as possible. We sprinted up the stairs to get to my room.
I grabbed handfuls of clothes and shoved them into a large bag, then packed some of my personal things that I couldn’t bear to leave behind. My art book, the drawing Gee did of me, a mask that my cousin had made me and a few other small things.
“Okay, so do you have any camping stuff? We’ll need food, bottled water? And I know this seems scary, but we may need them... weapons?” asked Frank.
“Camping stuff would be in the basement, Frank, you check that, Lindsey, the pantry is just past the kitchen and well... I know where dad’s old guns are,” I said.
“Okay, so long lasting things for the food?” asked Lindsey.
“Yeah, uh there should be canned fruit down the bottom,” I replied. Frank was already in the basement, searching for sleeping bags and stuff. I ran up to my mother’s bedroom and opened the chest she kept at the foot of the bed. I dug through it until I found what I was after, four shot guns, a rifle and a large box full of ammunition.
I picked them up and went back down stairs to find the others were already loading the car with what they had found.
“Guys!” I said to them as I handed them a shot gun each, they stared at them, grim expressions on their faces.
“Come on, Frank’s place is next, then Ray’s, then Gee’s and Mikey’s, then yours Lindsey,” I said as we hopped in the car.
We did the same thing at each of the boys houses, getting clothes, food and a few other supplies, but no-one else had any weapons.
Then we got to Lindsey’s.
Lindsey’s POV
“Mum!” I yelled as I ran into the house, Sarah and Frank followed me, “Mum? Where are you?”
“In here sweetie!” she called out from the kitchen. We ran towards her voice.
“Mum! You’ve gotta come wi-“ I stopped when I saw her, her face was devoid of all emotion and she was holding a small bottle of pills with the label BL/ind on the bottle.
“Sweetheart, I have these new pills, you will take them now,” she said in a scarily calm voice.
“No! Mama! Not you too!” I cried.
“Take the pills and your tears will be gone,” she said.
“Guys! We have to get out of here!” Sarah yelled.
“I can’t leave my mother here!” I screamed back.
“No! There are people coming!” she yelled, I looked out the window to see these... things walking towards the house, but... they weren’t quite human...
Frank grabbed me by the arm and pulled me out the door. But before we got to the car, the ‘things’ caught up to us.
I felt strong hands pull me away from Frank and Sarah, I screamed as I looked up at what had caught me. Oh my god! I thought, it had... it had fangs!
“Get the fuck away from her!” yelled Sarah as she raised the gun she was holding, aiming at the creature that held me.
Sarah’s POV
I couldn’t believe what I was about to do. I had never intentionally hurt anything before. But this creature was about to hurt my friend, I had to do something. I had to help her.
With shaking hands I raised the gun and aimed it at this creatures face.
“Get the fuck away from her!” I screamed, trying to sound intimidating.
It didn’t move. I looked at Lindsey. Her wide eyes looked back at mine, they were filled with fear. I knew what I had to do.
“Duck!” I yelled, she did as she was told, but the creature holding her didn’t.
With a shaky breath, I pulled the trigger, ending the creatures life with a sickening bang.
I dropped the gun. Horrified at what I had just done. I collapsed and let the peaceful nothingness of unconsciousness take me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I woke up, we were driving across the desert, tall mountains loomed over us. We were almost there.
I remembered what had just happened. I passed out again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Strong arms carried me into a small, run down cabin and laid me on a small pile of blankets. I opened my eyes to see Gee smiling down at me.
“Gee! you’re back,” I said weakly.
“Yeah, the pills wore off, but I still feel kinda weird,” he replied, “the others told me what you did for them. Sarah, it’s not your fault, they attack you guys, it was self defence.”
“B-but I killed something!” I cried, “I’m a horrible person!”
“Hey! You are not a horrible person, you are beautiful,” he kissed me, “brave,” another kiss, “loyal,” a deeper kiss, “and I love you.”
I pulled him down so that he was lying on top of me.
I didn’t think I could talk about it just then. We fell asleep in the circle of each others arms.
