Ryan woke up in room that looked a lot like a hospital. The fabric in the room was an off white, though the rest of the room seemed to be light blue.
"Oh good, you're up. Brendon will be happy about that when he get's back." Ryan's head feel back on the pillow as he looked over at the woman who was talking. He didn't know who she was, but decided that it wasn't worth asking. She would tell him is she wanted him to know. "You've been out for about a week, Jessica really wasn't thinking when she gave you that elixir." She walked over to Ryan, holding a green tinted bottle, a liquid sloshing inside of it. "Here, sit up and drink this." Her voice was soft, kind and caring. She handed him the bottle, taking out the cork so he could drink it. He took a sip, gagging the sour liquid down. He coughed a little, looking over at her.
"What the hell is in this?" He asked as he looked at the disgusting liquid.
"Whiskey mixed with an old Greek remedium. It'll help you get better. You know, you've been knocked out for a fairly long time." Ryan nodded, taking another drink of the disgusting liquid. "I'm Nubem, by the way." He gave a short nod.
"What happened? I can't remember anything and what's worse is that I feel like I have a fucking hangover."
"You didn't get black out drunk." She said shaking her head, crossing her legs in the black chair she was sitting in. "Brendon was trying to see where your...illness, came from. He did that by going into your mind, and well, it knocked you out. As much as I hate to say it, he's going to have to do it again later tonight." Ryan took another sip of the drink, nodding his head.
"That makes sense." Ryan stayed quite for a minute, trying to think of what was going to happen and what had already happened. "Did he find anything out? About me I mean?" She shook her head.
"No. I'm afraid we're in the same place we were before. All though, he did say that your father injected you with some kind of red liquid. And I can't help but wonder, why is that?" She looked at him as he watched the three headed peacock cross the room, it's feathers ruffling slightly. It flew up to the bed that Ryan was sleeping in, making it's self comfortable on Ryan's feet. Ryan pet it gently, running his hand through it's soft feathers.
"He used to tell me that I got all of the worst traits of my mother. That apparently included some kind of disease. He used to say that if I didn't take it my heart would give out just like my mum." Ryan watched as Nubem got a small vial filled with blue powder. She put it on two of her fingers, letting it coat the tips. She walked over to Ryan, pushing his hair out of his face.
"Doesn't seem like he was the nicest of men." She said as she put the two fingers to Ryan's forehead, marking a small symbol.
"He wasn't." Ryan muttered.
She pulled her hand from his forehead, allowing his hair to drop back down in his face. "Pyrites or sodalite?" Ryan gave her a curious look.
"Umm...The second one." She smiled a little, opening a small box. She pulled a stone out of it, handing it to Ryan. He looked at it, turning the small blue black and white stone in his hand. It was beautiful, and Ryan could feel all of the stress escaping his body as he held it in his hand.
"Ryan, how would you like to see my world?" Ryan looked at her for a few seconds before nodding.
"Okay." The peacock jumped down, and Ryan stood after it. "Where are we?" He asked, realizing he had no clue.
"Right now were close to Salem Oregon. There's clean clothing on the trunk in the corner. I'll be back in a moment." Ryan nodded, watching as she and the peacock left the room, the door shutting of it's own accord.
Ryan gave a small sigh, walking over to the trunk. He quickly slipped out of the dirty clothes, getting into clean new ones. He walked out to see Nubem standing outside the door, wearing a long red dress that flattered her figure. It had black and gold thread and lace in her chest area, a matching belt hanging loosely around her hips. The sleeves were long and flared out at the elbow, black lace hanging out of them a few inches past the end of the red fabric. There was a thick black cape hanging from her shoulders, going down to the ground, a gold chain headpiece atop her head. It made her long blond hair and pale skin seem all that more vibrant.
Ryan couldn't help but feel under dressed standing next to her. He was wearing a black button up shirt, a white lacy scarf hanging around his neck. The colors matched the white pants he was wearing with black pinstripes. He felt so simple, like he belonged elsewhere.
"Follow me." She said in a calm voice, walking down the row of closed doors. Ryan held tightly onto the stone she had given him, walking next to the three headed peacock. She lead him to a door with a lock, a small smile on her lips. "Are you ready?"
"I'll get to see Brendon again?" She nodded and he breathed out, looking down at the ground. "Yeah." She pulled a small key out of a bracelet that clung to her wrist, hidden by the sleeves of her crimson dress. It was small and intricate, the gold shinning in the little light that came from the candles lining the walls. It was an obvious skeleton key, and Ryan couldn't help but wonder where she had gotten it from. She turned it three times, looking up at Ryan as she pulled it out.
"Remember this, three to get in, twice to go home." Ryan nodded and she turned the small knob, the door opening with ease. It was unlike any other room in the building. In fact, what was on the other side was completely different from that of a closed room. It was an open garden, sunlight beaming down on the flowers that grew in bushes and on vines. She allowed Ryan to walk in, his bear feet touching the mosaic tiles. The tiles had rushing water, going just barley above the bottom of their feet. There was an overpowering sent of well watered plants, everything smelling sweet like a spring day.
The door seemed to stand on it's own, the wood of a sycamore tree being the way in and out. But it wasn't attached to a thing. Ryan walked around it, opening it from the other side. He found that all that was there was the other side of the garden, making it honestly look like a door standing in the middle of nowhere. Nubem spoke. "Coming?"
Ryan followed Nubem, the peacock still walking beside him. One of the heads watched Ryan, the other looking ahead while the last looked at everything around them.
The tiles were covered by the shade of trees, cracks going in between the branches that let rays of golden light cast down around them. Fountains were abundant, stone people pouring water along with stone animals that drank from the streams that overflowed the pools. The water trickled over it, running down the blue and green mosaic tiles. Ryan smiled a little.
"This place is amazing." Ryan said as he looked around the wonderland type landscape.
"And this is just the horto. Wait until you see the town." She said with a small smile. The amazement on Ryan's face was enough to encourage her to continue to let him see the world differently. They were silent as she lead him to a small alleyway, white marble bricks towering over them as he walked into a different world of color. She lead him to a shop, the sign in the front saying herbal remedies. It was the first time Ryan had seen wood that wasn't on trees or that of the door. The floors were a cheery red, the walls exposed brick. It wasn't the marble that covered the outside of the buildings to reflect the color, but something to make the room look darker, warmer.
"I was wondering," Nubem glanced at Ryan, leading him through the large shop. It looked a lot smaller on the outside, but he decided to not think about it. "Just how far can Brendon's powers go?" Ryan looked around at all of the plants that were captured in jars, potted and put in the sunlight, dangling from the ceiling to dry out. The place was filled with rows of them. Crushed ones hiding in baskets that lined the middle of the store, the jars lining the brick walls. It was almost like they had entered a completely different world within the other one.
"I'm not sure. He's still learning, and in all honesty, he has a really hard time controlling it." She picked up a small jar filled with roses, opening it to feed to one of the peacock heads. "We're hoping that once he learns to control it that he can find his strengths and weaknesses. But remember Ryan, when he does figure it out, bad things are bound to ensue. There are already a lot of people that want him dead, and with each waking moment their blood lust grows."
Ryan held still, staring at her as she feed another rosebud to the three-headed peacock. A wave of nausea ran over him and he walked around the room slowly, looking for a herb that would help settle his stomach. Of course, the majority of the plants petals and leaves in the shop he had never seen before, and all of the labels simply stated the name while ignoring what they were for.
"Follow me." She said as she walked out of the shop through a large wooden red door. Ryan walked over to it, opening it to be greeted by another garden. This one seemed to resemble more of an old Roman home garden, the ceiling missing as walls surrounded it with curtains to other rooms. The walls were made of marble brick, the sun that flooded down made it shine brightly. There were fountains scattered about, more with birds than anything.
In fact, there seemed to be a lot of birds. They flew from the different plants, going from bushes to the fountains to clean their different colored feathers. On further inspection, Ryan realized that they were a lot like the three headed peacock and nothing like anything he had ever seen before. He watched as Nubem walked through the garden, dropping the rosebuds for the different birds to snack on. It wasn't until the jar was empty and she was standing by a thick orange curtain that she looked up at Ryan again, a content smile on her face. Ryan walked over to her and she held the curtain open so he could walk through.
There was a reception hall that, once again, looked like it belonged in an old Roman house. Mosaic tiles covered the floor, a pool of water indented into the floor of the middle of the room. There was an opening in the ceiling right above the pool so the rain water could run off into it. The walls and ceiling were painted bright colors, a small red velvet couch standing to the side as a shrine with incense that made the room smell like rosemary. Nubem lead Ryan over to the large wooden door, the peacock left in the garden with the other birds.
She opened the door, allowing them to leave the house and go into what looked like a city. The tiles of marble and gold lined the streets as shades of blue and green seemed to stream here and there. Ryan couldn't help but feel like he had seen it somewhere in a movie, the cliffs that ran high above them, the green trees and moss that hung with the scattered houses that went up the abyss. And yet, even with how far down, or up, it was lit the way the surface of the earth is by the sun. He could feel the heat from the sphere of fire that hung so high in the sky, though he couldn't see it through the different shapes of buildings, leaves, and rocks.
"Where are we?" Ryan asked as they walked into the street. It was a lot like the first garden they had been in, fountains abundant as they let water run over the smooth brick street, cooling Ryan's feet like they had before.
"It has many names. Tir Nan Og, Neverland, Eden, Avalon, Elysium, Em Hain, and Middle Earth are the most common, though there are so many more for it." She said with a small smile.
Ryan was astonished, his face showing just how amazed he was at the beauty that was surrounding him. "It's incredible."
"It's my home." He turned away from looking around so he could face her. She had her pale pink lips tugged into a smile, her hair being slightly hidden by her hood. "And I have a feeling that one of the people that live here was the one to give your Brendon that precious gift of his. Come, we're going to see if we can find the person who gave it to him." Ryan nodded and took her outstretched hand, walking along the street of the faerie-like city.

marissasorrentino:When I think of a place, I try to describe it to the best of my abilities. Of course, everyone is bound to interpret it in different ways, so what you could be seeing might be different from the picture I have in my head.
And here I go getting all technical again. I keep doing that. Oh weeeeellll.
I'm glad you like it, as always.
PartyPoison:I typically try. It's hard when people can't just peer into your mind and see what you're seeing, but I've been trying it anyway.
Ryan angst is a wonderful thing, it makes everyone all sad and stuffs. But I do a lot of Brendon angst too. I should probably start working on other couples, but we'll get to that when we get to...that.
Any-who, glad to have your review as always.
