Thank you again for the reviews and for encouraging me to continue with this story. Here is the next chapter!
The meet and greets went smooth. Nothing spectacular or out of the ordinary happened. The kids were nice, asked politely if they could take pictures with everyone of them, had them sign things. It was the usual "thanking each other"-thing, which even though it might have been part of almost every conversation they had with the fans, still was as heartfelt and honest as it was when they said it for the first time almost to the day 10 years back. Press was another thing altogether. It wasn't necessarily that they didn't like interviews it was more that it got kinda boring from time to time, because you're getting asked the same questions over and over again. Of course they didn't show that some of that questions had been answered years ago already.
One interviewer on that day in August 2011 though was a very pleasant exception. The questions were well thought and it rather felt like a good conversation between friends than the normal question and answer-approach that was more like digging for some scandalous headlines. Headlines they never got. The last time they made headlines it was because some guy whose name must not be said obviously hadn't understood the lyrics of sing at all. However the interviewer made Gerard even forget about the whole Rage situation. So he must've been pretty good. But then again maybe he was overreacting. He still was hoping there was nothing wrong with his and Mikeys little sister. He just wasn't too sure. But time would tell...
Rage basically just then came back to his mind, when that interviewer asked them how they were feeling about having their little sister out, how their relationship was and whether they have ever thought about doing a duet. Gerard and Rachel. Strangely enough those were questions they almost never have been asked before. A short silence fell between them, when mikey, Frank and Ray looked over to Gerard who just gestured for one of them to answer first. He was still busy trying to organize his thoughts to find the right words. And so he remained silent which was a rare thing, for he was the one who talked the most during interviews. The first one to speak then was Frank.
"Oh it's great man. We're like family. You know, she basically was our first fan and she kinda is the little sister for all of us. Oh god I remember how mad Rage was when we went on Warped Tour for the first time and she had to stay at home" Frank smiled nearly cracking up over the memories.
"Rage?" the interview guy asked a bit confused. "Oh, well that's how we call her, that's her nickname" Ray interjected.
"Oh, okay!"
"God yes", Mikey added, "I almost forgot how mad she was when Gerard and me left for Warped Tour, she didn't talk to us for two weeks straight. It basically just got better when our parents and her came to the gig in Jersey. But yeah man it's great to have her and the band out on tour. Just like Frank said it's now really like the whole family is there. It's awesome!"
And then as last one Gerard said something as well.
"I couldn't add something that hasn't already been said really. Mikey, Rage and I we always had a good relationship. Even though she's quite a bit younger. We used to hang out all the time. It's great to have her out. She's very talented, she's very opinionated... We actually never thought about doing a duet, wouldn't it be kinda strange??" he raised his eyebrows "Well who knows maybe it will happen, maybe for a good cause something charity... Rage, she's gonna turn 27 soon, she will always be like a little sister to us. We will always look out for her and make sure she's okay."
"Well that's a nice sentence to end the interview I guess. Thank you guys a ton and have a great show later today!"
"No thank you that was one of the best interviews we had in a while!" ray added while shaking the interviewer's hand.
When the interviewer had left Mikey turned around to Gerard. Smiling.
"You okay? It's not that often that you're lost for words..."
"Yes, I'm fine I just need a coffee." he said while they were walking back to the catering area. But in thoughts he added. I'm fine... But is Rage?
--------------------------------------------------------------
Gerard had watched through the whole “The Diamond Mile” set from the side of the stage – well hidden from the eyes of the audience. And he couldn’t help but feel proud watching Rage (in tight leather pants, a pale yellow Beatles-shirt and converse) tear it off on stage. No doubt: his little sister was a born rockstar! He knew she would make it far, if she and the band would work hard. But you could see it already, every night there were a few more signs people we’re waving for them, more people knowing the lyrics to their songs. It reminded him of the time him and the guys first started out. In a weird way it felt like they were doing Warped Tour all over again. Only 10 years later and another slot on the show-schedule.
Maybe it was because of her, he thought. Maybe it was because in a way he saw himself in her, just ten years back. The excitement of being on tour for the first time, travelling around, meeting tons of people, trying new things and having a good time… Having a good time... Yes, he could see it. She had a good time. He had a good time back then as well. Or at least that was what he was thinking at the time… And she smiled. It grew even wider when she turned her head to where he was standing and he was giving her two thumbs up! Still there was something nagging at him. Something in the back of his mind, seemingly long forgotten. But now wasn’t the time to delve into it. They’d be up playing in a mere ten minutes. Gerard hadn’t even noticed that Frank had joined him in watching “The Diamond Mile”, he was too focused on his thoughts and Rage.
“She’s fucking good, hm?!” Frank said and looked up to Gerard smirking. “Are you afraid she’s going to upstage you soon?!”
“What?” Gerard said laughing. “You want me to prove you’re wrong?! That shouldn’t be too hard!”
10 minutes later a sweaty but cheerful looking Rage and her bandmates left the stage and gave all of the MCR guys a high five screaming: “Kick their asses!” And – yeah I know I don’t need to state it here but – they did! They really did! I was their best show of the tour so far and so it was def worth having this little BBQ-Celebration.
While the other guys made their way to the showers immediately, Gerard sat down on the steps to the stage and pulled out his mobile phone. He was dying to hear Linds’ voice, but even more to hear the voice of that little person that made him happier than he’d ever been in his entire life. He dialed and waited for someone to answer. “Hey, Linds! How are you and Bee doing?”
‘We’re fine, Bee helped me with my latest artpiece today. Wait a moment, I’ll get her.”
A few seconds it seemed like the line gone dead, but then there was a little voice saying: “Dada?!”
He smiled. No drug in the world could measure up to this. Never.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Half an hour later Gerard finally made for the showers. All the others we’re already sitting in front of the busses, chatting. And Frank obviously had already made up a BBQ mixtape. At the moment it was blasting Sleigh Bells. He decided to make it quick. He was hungry and yes, he was even a bit in the mood to celebrate this show.
When he got back from the showers, it seemed like the BBQ was already getting a bit more party-esque. People were sitting together laughing, eating, drinking. When Gerard had gotten himself something to eat and sat down next to Ray he even saw some people dancing. Well, two people to be precise: Frank and Rage. Both smiling, a beer in hand. From the way Rage was dancing he could tell though that this might not have been the first beer she had this evening…
Next chapter will be up in the next 2-4 days. It will be called: "Give me a shot to remember".
