Mikey’s POV
5 minutes… 4 minutes… 3 minutes…
“Mikey?” said a voice, and I woke from my daze with a ‘huh?’
“I said, how far have you gotten with your assignment?”
It was Mr Price, my English teacher, and he knew very well that I hadn’t even started.
“Good,” I lied, and looked back to the clock. 1 minute to go.
“Well in that case, can I see where you’re up to?”
RIIIIIIING.
“Sure, I’ll bring it in next lesson,” I said, already halfway out the door.
“You’re not going to bring it in next lesson, are you?”
I looked to my right to see my best friend, Ray. His giant afro bouncing slightly as he walked.
“Well, I’ll hand in what I have,” I said, smiling.
“And what’s that?”
“Nothing,” I laughed, “Race you to the tree!”
I started running, leaving a dumbfounded Ray behind me. I reached the tree first, and when Ray caught up with me he was already complaining.
“…AND you had a head start, that’s so not fair!”
“Calm your fro, Ray,” I laughed and flinched as he prepared to hit me. I opened my eyes to see Ray had been tackled my midget friend, Frank.
“Yay!” I cheered as Frank got up, and we high-fived.
“Be nice to Ray, guys,” laughed Gerard, who was walking towards us with a new girl. I also only just realised that Frank was with someone too.
“Hey, who are the new people?” I asked, and the two girls blushed.
“This is Sarah,” said Gee, pointing to the shorter one with black and green hair pulled up into a ponytail.
“And this is Kirrah!” yelled Frank, pointing to the girl who looked very similar to Sarah, but she was taller and didn’t have green in her hair.
“You don’t need to yell Frank!” I complained, “I’m Mikey.”
“And I’m Ray,” said Ray, who was still lying on the ground.
“Nice to meet you,” said Kirrah shyly, as Sarah tackled Gerard to the ground.
“What was that for?!” complained Gerard, and Sarah shrugged. I lost it; I burst into a fit of laughter, and had to sit down before I hurt myself. I knew straight away we were going to get on really well with these girls.
Sarah’s POV
After Mikey’s laughing fit ended, the bell went. Kirrah and I got our bags and I checked my timetable.
“Ew, maths!” I groaned, and I looked up to the confused faces of Gerard, Frank, Mikey and Ray. “What?”
They all started laughing and I blushed, suddenly feeling extremely self-conscious.
“That’s… Not… The… End…” Frank managed to say after giggles.
“The end? Of what?” said Kirrah, sounding confused. Our confusion only made them laugh more, and I crossed my arms.
“Seriously?! What’s funny!” I asked, stamping my foot.
“Lunch isn’t over,” said Gerard, wiping tears from his eyes.
“What? But the bell…” I said, trailing off. I didn’t want to say anything else in case they started laughing again.
“There’s two bells,” explained Mikey
“Oh! At our school there’s only one,” I said, finally understanding.
“Really? That would’ve sucked,” said Gerard
“It wasn’t so bad,” I said, smiling. I think I might have found a new best friend.
~~
“Okay, so let’s get to know each other more,” suggested Gerard, and everyone agreed. We had all agreed to hang out after school, and now we were sitting at a cemetery. Apparently it was the group’s favourite place to hang out, and I wasn’t complaining.
“Alright, we’ll start with name, age, sexuality and… fondest childhood memory. So, Gerard Arthur Way, 18, bisexual. Fondest memory…” he stopped to think a bit, then smiled. “I know, well, when I was a young boy, my father took me into the city to see a marching band. It was awesome!”
“I was there too! You stole my memory,” frowned Mikey, then his eyes lit up. “No, I got mine. Okay, Michael James Way, 17, straight, and there was this time…” he stopped to laugh, then continued, “and Gerard came to school in drag!”
Everyone started laughing, and Gerard went bright red.
“Yeah, so what. I looked hot as a chick.” He said, which caused us all to laugh even harder.
“Okay, me next!” yelled Frank, “Franklin Anthony Iero, 17, bisexual. Fondest memory… when I got my first dog!”
“Oh yeah, one thing to know, Frank LOVES dogs,” said Gerard, and Frank nodded with a HUGE smile on his face.
“Alright, my turn?” asked Ray, and we nodded. “Umm, well. Raymond Toro, 18, straight, and my favourite memory was when I got my first guitar.”
“You play?” asked Kirrah, and he nodded.
“REALLY well!” interrupted Mikey, and Gerard nodded in agreement.
“I can play too!” said Frank, and I laughed. It was so obvious he was trying to get Kirrah’s attention.
“Okay, Sarah, you go.” said Gerard.
“Umm, well. Sarah Johnstone, 18, pansexual…”
“Pan-what?” asked Ray
“Pansexual, it’s a thing! It’s more commonly known as ‘gender-blind’” I said
“Oh okay, continue.”
“My fondest memory was when my grandmother taught me to sing,” I said, smiling at the memory.
“No way! You sing? And your grandma taught you?” he asked and I nodded, a little confused. He just sat there, his mouth hanging open.
“Someone wanna explain…?” I asked, and Mikey laughed.
“That’s exactly the same as Gerard,”
“Really?” I asked, and Gerard nodded. “Awesome! Okay, Kirrah’s turn.”
“Okay. Kirrah Louise Johnstone, 17, bisexual, and when Sarah knocked out one of the “popular” people bullying me,” she smiled and looked at me. “It was awesome!”
“You can fight too?!” asked Frank, and we all laughed as I nodded.
“Shit! Look at the time!” cursed Mikey, “Gee, we have to get home!”
“Alright, do you guys have a way home?” he asked us.
“Nahh, I’m good dude.” said Frank and Gerard rolled his eyes.
“Not you, midget!” he laughed.
“Umm, we walk…” Kirrah said.
“Same, where do you guys live,”
“11 Cemetery Drive,” I replied.
“We’re at 5 Cemetery Drive, what a coincidence. We’ll walk with you!” said Mikey, and we all set off leaving Ray and Frank at the cemetery.
Gerard’s POV
“Mum! We’re home!” I yelled as I walked through the door. She poked her head around the corner.
“Hi boys, dinner’s ready. I’m just serving it up now,” she said, and I followed Mikey into the dining room where the dinner table was already set up. We sat down, just as Dad walked in.
“Hey dad,” I said, but I wasn’t paying attention. I was looking at my phone.
“That thing shouldn’t be at the table, Gerard,” he said, and I just nodded. He wasn’t going to do anything anyway.
“Donna, when’s dinner ready?” he called, sitting next to me.
“Now!” she called back. She came in and served dinner. When we were all sitting at the table, I brought up a topic of conversation that was never taken well.
“So, I was thinking… I wanna dye my hair red…”
“No.” Donna and Donald said at the same time.
“Or partly red…”
“No way.”
“I think it would look cool,” interrupted Mikey, and I smiled at him.
“Gerard, how many times do we have to tell you…”
“I’m fine the way I am?” I guessed, and they just looked at me. “It’s not that I’m unhappy with my looks,” That was a lie. “I just think it would be cool!”
“No. End of discussion.”
“But mum…”
“End of discussion!” she said sternly. I stared at her, then got up from the table and went to my room, slamming the door. I sat at my art desk and started to draw. I had no idea what I was drawing, I just did. That’s what usually happened.
~~
I looked at the finished project, and frowned. I wasn’t happy with it at all. I had drawn me, with red hair. I didn’t know if it looked awful because I can’t draw, or if I was just ugly. There was a knock at the door, and I opened it to Mikey.
“Hey Mikes,” I said.
“Hey, you alright?” he asked, and I nodded. “What did you draw?”
I showed him the drawing; he was the only one I allowed to see my artwork.
“That’s brilliant, Gee! And I was right, it looks awesome!”
I giggled, then sighed.
“Does it really look like me?” I asked, and he nodded. I frowned, and looked at the drawing again.
“What’s wrong?” he asked.
“It’s ugly.” I said. Mikey was also the only person who I told EVERYTHING.
“No! Gee!” he frowned, and I shrugged.
“I can’t help being…”
“Don’t even say it!” he said, putting his hand over my mouth.
“Mikes!” I said, well tried to say. It came out all muffled.
“Promise you won’t say it!” he said, and I shook my head. “Well, we’ll have to stay like this then wont we.”
“Alright fine!” I said, and he let go. “How did you know what I said?”
“I guessed,” he said, grinning. I laughed and sat on my bed.
“Mikey, you’re the best brother ever,”
