They all looked around at each other, then all of their eyes landed on Gee. He seemed deep in thought, then he shrugged and said "I don't know yet. But it'll have to be good." I glanced at the clock, and sighed. "Sorry to break up the band, but Mikey and I have work." Mikey sighed too, put his bass back in the case, and picked it up by the handle. We returned to the apartment, and I changed in to my 'business casual' shirt. We walked four blocks to the Barnes and Noble around the corner. I could tell Mikey was in a good mood, he was humming the bass line to Skylines and Turnstiles. Then he took my hand in his. My cheeks felt warmer than usual. I stared down at my faded blue converse, trying to get the blush to go away. You're not in highschool anymore! I said and once my cheeks felt normal again, I looked at Mikey. He was half smiling, and I almost wanted to turn around and head back home. We got to work, I worked in music, I helped people find a specific album or artist the wanted. Mikey worked up in books, he helped people find books or authors. He also helped with recommendations. When I got into the music department, I saw an older couple browsing through the 'New Releases' section. I put on my work face, and walked up to them. "Can I help you two?" We ended up having to look in the system. I typed in 'Chris Tyle' and only two results came up. They were chit-chatting, and would look up at me, and I'm pretty sure they were talking about my Lip ring. Ignore them. I thought to myself as I looked for the CD, pulled it out, and read it. "Okay, well, we have one more! 'Tribute to Pee Wee Russell'?" I said, hoping it was the one they wanted. The man was glaring at me. The woman nodded her head, "Thank you deary!" she said. "Take that metal crap out your face!" the man growled at me. I felt my face turn red, and the woman took her husband away. "Mel! Mel! You're never going to believe this!" I heard Mikey say, he jogged into the music section, picked me up in a hug, and twirled me around. "Mikey! Put me down and tell me why you're so excited!" I giggled. He set me down, and thrust a book into my hands. "Ecstasy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance... Yeah?" I said reading the title out loud, then looking at him, puzzled. "Is there a band called 'Chemical Romance?'" I finally caught on, and jogged over to the system. Mikey stood behind me as I typed into the box: 'Chemical Romance', and waited for the old thing to load. I grabbed Mikey's hand in anticipation. 'No Results Found'. I laughed as he picked me up in a hug again. "This is great! Go call Gee!" I said once he sat me back down. "I can't. I left my phone at home." He said, but he was still smiling. I pulled my Nokia 6120, and tossed it to him. "Thanks, Mel!" He said going back to the book section, dialing his brother's number. Then a group of kids walked in, and one came up to the counter. "Do you have any P!nk?" He said, and I didn't need to look in the system for this one. "Sure do, buddy!"
Cassidy's POV:
Gerard was mimicking the noises of a guitar solo, when his buzzed. "Hello?... No fucking way! ...Mikey! Dude! That's fucking epic!... Alright... Yeah, I'll tell 'em... Bye!" He clicked the phone off, and turned to us. I looked at him, curiosity filling my eyes. "Mikey got us a band name!" He said, hugging Jasmine. Ray got up and hugged me. He was laughing for some reason, but it's cute, so I don't care. Bob sighed, and muttered. "I knew I should've brought Mai." "Does Bob need a hug too?" I said, and walked over and gave him a hug whether he needed one or not. "Yeah, yeah... What's the name?" Bob said. "Get this... My Chemical Romance!" Holy fuck, that was good! I smiled as Gerard, Bob and Ray continued to play. There's something about this band, I can't put my finger on it, but it's there. I thought to myself. I smiled and gazed out the window. It was beautiful out today, the sun was shining, and Autumn breezed played with the leaves on the trees, and some fluttered to the ground. I sighed as I felt euphoria rising inside of me. We were pretty much waiting for Mikey and Mel to return so it would be the whole band, and they got off at 4, so we had plenty of time to kill, seeing it was only 1:00. "Hey, Guys, I have an idea for these lyrics, but I have no idea what the music should be." Gee said holding up a notepad that was probably full with lyric possibility's. "Well, what are some of the lyrics?" Bob said, twirling the drumsticks between his fingers. "Ok,
We could be perfect one last night
And die like star-crossed lovers when we fight
And we can settle this affair
If you would shed your yellow take my hand
And then we'll solve the mystery of laceration gravity
This riddle of revenge please understand it has to be this way
Stand up fucking tall
Don't let them see your back
And take my fucking hand
And never be afraid again!" Gee sang, and it was a song that sounded like a hard rock song. Then, I had an idea. "Ray, can I see your guitar?" He nodded and handed it to me, and I played what I had in mind. Then I looked up at Gee, and said "Sing it again?" He started singing again, and I made it up as I went along. "Whoa... Cassidy! That was great! Thanks hunny!" Ray said, hugging me, and I handed him back his guitar with a "No problem." They went through it, and Bob tapped along on his practice pad. They wrote on more guitar parts, changed a couple of lyrics, and before we knew it, it was 3:30. I heard the door unlock, and Mikey and Mel walked through. They were still in their work clothes. Mel looked pooped, but Mikey looked as energetic as a squirrel. Mel flopped on the couch and said "So what did you guys do today?" "Well, Cassidy wrote a guitar part for a song!" Ray said giving me a hi-five. She laughed, and said "That's awesome! I'd give you a hug, but it was annoying old couple day in Music. There was one that told me: 'Get that metal crap out of yer face!'" I laughed a little. I remembered the big ass bruise she got when she got that piercing freshman year. She had her cartilage pierced, but that got infected. "Yeah, old people these days aren't very friendly." She said after my laugh. Mikey took out his bass, and adjusted his tuning pegs. Mel was watching him, with deep thought in her eyes. I stared at Ray, as his head bobbed up and down as he was playing.
Mel's POV
Mikey looked happy when he played. Like nothing could bother him. Last time he played the bass was well over a year ago, and when he stopped, I dunno, it was like he stopped being a part of him. He looked up and met my eyes with his warm hazel ones. He smiled a little then finished the song. "I like that one! What's it called?" I said, putting my knees to my chest. "We haven't figured that one out yet, but I'm sure it'll come along." Gee said looking through his notepad. After a little while, we all started to get hungry, so we ordered a pizza, and they continued to play until it got dark outside. Eventually the clock turned 11:30, and people were yawning all over the place. Mikey and I said goodbye again, and went home. I showered and changed into my holey grey sweatpants and my Smashing Pumpkins concert tee. Mikey and I saved our allowances, mowed peoples yards, did any and all extra chores to get tickets when we were 17. Somehow, we ended up in the middle of the mosh pit, and got pretty beat up, but it was worth it. That was my very first concert. I smiled, and pulled the shirt over my head. I walked out of the bedroom, and into our living room. Mikey was flipping through the channels. "Ugh. There's nothing good on! You wanna watch a movie?" I grinned, hopped off the couch, and pulled out the cardboard box where our movies were kept. I finally found the tape I was looking for. The Nightmare Before Christmas. "You know all the words to that movie!" he pointed out as I popped it in. "I know! But it's cute!" I said, hopping back on the couch and resting my head on his shoulder. He rested his head on top of mine, with his cheek on my still wet, but fairly dry hair. "Your hair smells like apples." he whispered. "Thanks?" I whispered back. The movie started, and when they were singing 'This Is Halloween' I softly sang along. Mikey put his arm around my shoulder about halfway through the movie. I felt safe and sound around him. Even if we did live in a dangerous neighborhood. The end credits were scrolling down the screen when I thought Mikey was surely asleep. I took the blanket off the back of the couch and put it over us. "I love you, Mikey." I softly whispered. "I love you too Melanie." he said just before I closed my eyes.
