Frank tore his gaze away from the world outside at the sound of the front door slamming back into its frame. He scurried into the living room and saw his mate pacing stressed a scowl on his face turning that usually kind face dark. He walked toward the Dom hesitantly hand outstretched towards Gerard’s arm. Clasping the limb in his hands he looked up into those dark hazel eyes. He felt a shiver ripple down his spine at the harsh look hidden deep within the hues.

“Gerard what’s wrong?” he questioned uncertainty lacing his emotions. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to know the answer. He saw a flicker in the Dom’s eyes before he came crumpling to his knees in Frank’s hold, tears rushing down his cheeks as he gave up holding everything in.

“I couldn’t save her,” he sobbed. Frank let the Dom burry his head in his shoulder and stroked his fingertips gently through his tangled black locks.

“Shh Gerard it’s ok” Frank cooed gently only to stare at the Dom in shock as he pulled roughly out of his arms.

“No it is not fucking ok Frank. A little fertile child died in my arms today! Nothing about this is ok, nothing is right anymore and I don’t know what to do. There doesn’t seem to be any hope left” Frank’s hand collided with the Dom’s cheek snapping those hazel eyes to him in shock. Frank let the liquid he had been restraining roll freely down his cheeks.

“Don’t you give up! This world will get better. Just wait and see everything will be all right again, you were the one who told me that. So don’t you go and give up Gerard, you are the only thing holding this together now. There is hope we will win this war, we will win it for our child, I don’t want to EVER hear you give up again” Frank hissed, as Gerard sat on staring at the fertile wide eyed at the out burst. “ D-don’t you say those words to me Gerard” The fertile uttered weakly before slipping to his knees his arms wrapping weakly around his swelling stomach tears lacing his cheeks.

As the emotion in the room felt like they are going to hit their peak, the front door slammed open rebounding off the wall as three forms entered their room. Frank noted the presence of his father then turned his gaze to the other two men, one man was shorter than the rest with cropped hair and a kind face, the other had elegant angular features with shaggy brown hair, and chocolate brown eyes. At the arrival of their guests, Gerard was to his feet in a matter of seconds, eyes dried and clean, very professional looking. The Doms before Frank appeared to be communicating solely through their eyes, and Frank couldn’t grasp any of the looks passing between them. He felt his mood swing as he got to his feet and stomped his foot dramatically.

“Tell me what is going on,” He demanded childishly, he would blame it on the hormones later. He watched as all of the Doms slowly turned to him, their eyes scanning over him. His eyes meet those of his father; he could see the hesitation lacing his fathers brown hues. Without a word his father turned from him and motioned with his head for who ever had been waiting outside to enter, and that they did.

Walking across Frank’s threshold were over fifty fertiles. Each of different shapes and sizes, some were worse for wear, and others looked pampered, others were heavily pregnant and others had children at their side.

Eyes widening Frank hurried forward to a heavily pregnant fertile clasping the boys arm gentle and aiding him over to the couch. He glanced over at the Doms and now understood what it was that he had to do. It had now become too perilous in the world that they were in for the fertiles to be separated. It would be easier to protect mass amounts of them in homes like this. And frank would be damned if he wasn’t helping in some way.

Frank felt a hand on his shoulder and glanced up and saw his father. That large hand directed him out of the room with much protest from him. Leading him into the vacant kitchen. He looked up into his father’s eyes and knew immediately that he was not going to like the new his father would soon utter.

“ We have to leave” Frank frowned at his father before hugging him.

“Please be careful” The hands on his shoulders made him pull away, he saw that look once again in his father eyes, and he knew he wouldn’t like what would come next.

“ All of us have to leave. Gerard included” Frank felt his heart shatter and the world around him coming to a screaming halt. Gerard couldn’t leave him not now, he was the only thing making him hold on, he couldn’t make it even a day with out Gerard. Frank began to shake his head in denial backing away from his father before he turned and ran. He ran through all of his new houseguests, through the pack of Doms conversing on his doorstep and right into those strong arms, those familiar arms, the ones that were the only thing keeping him alive.

“You can’t leave Gerard,” he whimpered into that strong chest, hiding his face not wanting to face the world around him, the world where his mate was now leaving him when he needed him the most.

“Frankie, I have to go sugar. We have to win this you said that yourself.”

“I know but I never meant this” Frank said shaking his head and looking up into those hazel eyes that were his saviors.

“But Frankie, I have to leave to stop the war, we have found a way, but that way isn’t here, I want to save you Frankie, no I will save you. If that means leaving, I will but I promise you this here and now.” Gerard lent down his lips caressing the outer shell of Frank’s ear before uttering. “I will always return to you”.

With that Frank let his love slip through his fingers, let him walk through that door into the decaying world, walking towards that sunset not to return for a long time.

“ And I will always be waiting”
