Two Days Later
I walked into Frank and I's house, Nikki and Danni following close behind me. I watched Nikki as she walked in. She stopped just inside the doorway and took in all of the surroundings.
I shrugged, “It's not much, but it's something.” I paused, “I hope you two don't mind sharing a room. We only have two bedrooms.”
Danni nodded, “We've almost always shared a room. We'll be fine.”
I nodded and started walking towards the room that was going to become their bedroom, until we could come up with something better. I set the few bags of Nikki's that I had been carrying on the floor, “We only have one bed in here... but we have an old futon that one of you can sleep on until we get another bed.”
Nikki nodded, “Whatever...” she looked around the room, still taking everything in, “It's kind of small...”
I sighed, “I know, but it's not like we were expecting having you two moving in with us.”
She nodded, “Yea... I guess you're right.” She set down the rest of her bags, “I guess it'll fine for now...”
I smiled, “We'll set up the futon later. Meanwhile, we can eat, because I don't know about you guys, but I'm starving.”
Danni laughed, “I haven't eaten anything good since the accident.”
Nikki smirked, “Me either. Hospital food is nasty...”
I laughed and walked out of the room, Nikki and Danni following me. We walked into the kitchen where Frank was pulling pizza's out of the freezer.
I sighed and sat down at the table, “Really?”
He laughed, “I'm tired, and I don't feel like cooking...”
I smirked, “I guess it'll be fine for tonight, but tomorrow, I expect something amazing.”
He smirked, “Me too...”
Nikki and Danni sat down on either side of me, laughing. I watched Frank get down four glasses and fill them up with water. He set three of them on the table, one for each of us.
As I reached for my glass, I heard the doorbell. I sighed and stood up. I slowly opened the door, and smiled at who I saw standing on the porch.
I moved out of the way to make room for my mom, dad, and Mikey to walk in.
My mom waited for me to shut the door, “Where are they?” She asked, excitement apparent on her face.
I laughed, “They're in the kitchen.”
My family walked into the kitchen, me following them. I felt the awkwardness between everyone as soon as I walked into the room. I just realized that Nikki and Danni had never met my parents before.
I walked over to where they were sitting and smiled, “That's my mom.” I said, pointing to my mom. She smiled and walked over to them, hugging them.
I pointed to my dad, “That's my dad.” He, like my mom, walked to them and hugged them.
“And lastly, I'm sure you know my brother, Mikey.” I laughed.
He walked to them and wrapped his arms around them.
Danni smiled, “Grandma... Grandpa... and Uncle Mikey.” she paused, “It feels nice to finally know other family.”
Nikki nodded, “Definitely. For the longest time, the only family we knew was you and mom and Josh...” she shuddered at the memory. I put my hand on her shoulder.
My mom shook her head, “Gerard, how did you?” I asked.
She laughed, “How did you manage to have such beautiful daughters!” she exclaimed.
Frank laughed, “I've been asking myself the same thing.”
I shook my head, “I don't know. It's a very good question.”
I glanced at Danni. I could see her cheeks reddening. Though, when I glanced at Nikki she was looking down at the ground. She looked extremely uncomfortable.
I sighed and glanced from Frank to my parents, “Well, we are getting ready to eat...”
My dad nodded, “We can come back later, if that's okay.”
I nodded, “Yea, that's a great idea.”
Danni smiled and stood up. She walked over to them and hugged them, “It was great meeting you.”
My mom laughed, “It was nice meeting you too.” She looked back at Nikki, who was still looking down at the ground, “It was nice meeting you too, Nikki.”
Nikki nodded, not looking up. I sighed, “Bye mom, dad, Mikey.”
They all nodded before turning around and letting themselves out. When they were gone, Danni sat back down where she had been sitting and smiled up at me, “That was amazing!”
I laughed, “I'm glad you enjoyed it.”
Nikki sighed and stood up, “I'm not that hungry anymore...” She walked to the door frame and stopped, turning around to face us, “If you need me, I'll be in the backyard.”
I watched her as she walked away. I heard Danni sigh, “I don't know what her problem is...”
I shook my head, “She's going through a lot of a changes all at once. I'm not surprised that she's depressed. She just needs some time to process everything, then I'm sure everything will be back to the way they used to be.”
Danni nodded, “I hope you're right.”
Frank smiled, “Nikki will be fine. I'm sure of it.”
I laughed, “You've been saying that a lot lately.”
He shrugged, “Well, what else do you want me to say? That she won't be fine.”
I laughed, “You are a terrible person.”
He laughed, “I know.”
I opened my mouth to say something when I heard Nikki scream, “What the fuck was that?!”
I asked jumping up.
Frank shrugged, “I have no idea... but it sounded like Nikki.”
I heard it again, “Shit! Not again!” I ran outside and almost fainted at what I saw...
