Eva had woken up in a bad mood. It seemed like ever since Gerard had come to her school bad moods were a regular occurrence. It made her life feel cliché and dramatic and yet she wasn’t getting paid nearly as much as a soap opera actress.

After roll call, Eva dreadfully headed towards the legal studies room. Her heart was racing and her mind was filled with memories of the night before.

“You nervous, rock star?” whispered Nick walking past her and giving her a sly wink. Her eyes lightened up slightly knowing that Nick was always going to be on her side- in this matter at least.

Eva entered the classroom to find that Gerard was facing the board and using chalk to write what seemed like an agenda for the day’s lesson. His face did not leave the board to welcome students into his classroom like he usually did, but no one except Eva seemed to take notice. Eva took her seat next to Amanda and waited until Gerard turned around.

“Good morning, class,” he said simply. He didn’t smile, but he didn’t frown either. He didn’t glance towards anyone in particular. He was actually quite neutral.

“As you know, tomorrow is our excursion to Canberra,” he said briefly. His mood surprised Eva. It was as if nothing had happened- as if he had forgotten last night’s events.

But he couldn’t have...

His face looked exhausted and his body couldn’t hold itself up properly, Eva noticed. Yet his persona was so indifferent.

“I want you to familiarise yourself with the workings of the Australian parliament so that when we visit you may take full advantage of your surroundings,” he continued.

Gerard continued speaking to the class like a normal teacher and Eva listened attentively.
He set individual work for the class and allowed them to chat amongst themselves while he walked around the classroom asking how everyone they were going with the task. Of course, he started at the opposite side of the room from Eva.

By the time he reached Eva, her work had been finished and she was telling a strange story to Amanda.

“How are you girls going with the assigned work?” he asked clapping his hands together and barely looking at Eva.

“Good,” chimed Amanda with the other girls. Eva didn’t speak.

“That’s great!” he said a bit too excitedly. “Any difficult spots with the task?”

“There were a few, but Eva helped us out,” said Amanda smiling.

Gerard looked at Eva, smiled forcefully and bent down.

“Do you mind if I look at your work?” asked Gerard.

Eva nodded and merely pushed her book forward slightly. His offhanded behaviour was frightening and a little confronting, but she played a long.

He leant down and skimmed through her work. Eva examined his face. His bone structure was immaculate and his skin, although tainted with sadness and a few blemishes, was almost perfect. He had a stubble and bags under his eyes, but even a shallow person could admit that Gerard was truly handsome.

Gerard frowned at Eva’s work.

“Very good,” he said and he thrust her book forward gently, got up and walked away- all without looking her in the eye.

By the time the bell for the end of the lesson had rang, Eva was frustrated. It was no doubt the lack of attention was a downer, but then she realised that was probably Gerard’s intention overall. He knew that even though Eva said she wanted nothing to do with him, he expected her to care. Eva had too much dignity to show her disappointment so rather she managed to create a big laughing fit out of thin air with her “friends” so that it seemed she too didn’t care. Although it was rather lame and childish it seemed to work because she was sure she saw Gerard frown slightly.

The rest of her day passed without much excitement. Eva was almost waiting for Gerard to walk
through her classroom door and ask that she be excused, but nothing of that sort happened.
By the time last period came though, a distraction did occur. Eva was asked by Mr. Fried to visit Mr. Bendigo’s staffroom and wait for him to arrive so that she could hand him some forms that needed to be signed and returned immediately. Mr. Bendigo’s staffroom happened to also be that of Gerard’s. Eva tried to convince herself that she didn’t care, but she did. She was almost waiting for the opportunity to be in his presence and prove to him how much better she was without him.

“Wait in the staffroom, Eva,” said Mr. Fried kindly.” It’s far too cold to wait outside. Mr. Bendigo should arrive by the end of the period hopefully.”

Eva knocked on the staffroom door and waited but there was no response, so she took the liberty to walk in. There was no one inside as Mr. Fried had implied so she took a seat at Mr. Bendigo’s desk. After a good five minutes of tapping her foot, Eva’s curiosity got the better of her. Situated right across from Mr. Bendigo’s desk was Gerard’s. Normally, Eva wouldn’t have had the guts to get up and look through anyone’s desk but lately rules, morals or values didn’t apply to Eva.

“Thank god we never had sex,” thought Eva to herself. It was the only thing that got her through what happened with Gerard. Sure they had rubbed up against each other, but that didn’t even count these days, did it? Her virginity was still intact and he had only seen her in her bra and underwear. So she had nothing to be ashamed about, did she?

Eva slyly got up out of the hard seat she was in and walked over subtlety to Gerard’s desk trying to act as if she were merely walking around the room because she had to stretch. His laptop lay open on his desk and there seemed to be a bunch of year eight exams which hadn’t been marked yet. Eva noticed an envelope on his desk on top of his laptop keyboard.
Eva reached for it and saw it was just from the Board of Studies. However, as she went to put the envelope back on his laptop keyboard, the computer lit up. Eva started to stress wondering how to turn the screen black again.

She leant down to try and figure out how to put the laptop on standby when she noticed an email was on the screen.

It was from Lindsey.

Eva’s heart jolted. She battled with her conscious whether to read it or not. On the pro’s side she could find out the juicy gossip and figure out the reason for Gerard’s strange mood. On the con side there were a lot more reasons not to read the email- including finding out something that would make Eva unhappy. Privacy was the last thing Eva thought about.

Eva decided to bite the bullet and read the email.

She was right.

She didn’t like what she found.

Eva tripped back slightly and grabbed hold of her chest.

While she was happy that Gerard was the father of his child, she was also dreading the fact that Gerard might go back to the USA. It was no doubt he WAS happy with Lindsey before the whole scenario. Eva fell back in Mr. Bendigo’s chair and saw that Gerard’s laptop went on standby again.

Eva’s heart had caught fire and her body was beginning to get cold- a juxtaposition so intense it killed. This was her fault. She had somehow conjured this up in the universe. She didn’t know what to do. If she had been mature, none of this would have happened. Sam was right, maybe it didn’t belong in this universe- but that didn’t mean it hurt any less.

At that moment Mr. Bendigo walked in. Eva’s eyes adjusted from her daze and focussed on Mr. Bendigo who had greeted her. After the necessary paperwork was complete Eva was excused.

“Oh, and Eva,” called out Mr. Bendigo. Eva turned.

“Have fun on your trip tomorrow.”
Eva nodded. She was dreading it more than ever now. Two nights with Gerard.

Gerard had called Mikey and asked that he delay the trip for after the camp with his seniors. Mikey tried to speak to him further about the new found discoveries (the news had travelled around the family no thanks to Lindsey) but Gerard was keeping his feelings tight lipped- mainly because he didn’t know what he felt.

Acting neutral around Eva today was one of the hardest things he had done in life. Her mere presence always got him nervous and lustful. He hated that she seemed to have moved on. Her and Nick seemed to have become better friends, and he felt jealous. He should have been the one making her smile and laugh. He should have been the one to be spending obscene amounts of time with her, talking, cuddling and talking about things no one else in the world would understand. But it was all so wrong. The world wouldn’t understand. She was his student. She wasn’t anything other than a young girl who he met on his first day of teaching.
Yet, she was something to him.

Eva had packed.
Oh yes, she had packed alright. The clothes that made her look different and unrecognisable out of school. Eva wasn’t going to stand by and let some GUY affect her happiness.
What had ever happened to girl power? Independence? Beyonce’s ‘All the Single Ladies’? She was about to reinvent it.

Eva walked up to Gerard that morning, confidently. Out of school uniform Eva received a lot of stares from those who saw her walk past.
Gerard had to look twice when he saw her standing right in front of her.

“I’m here,” she said before walking away and hopping on the bus.
Gerard marked her name off and pretended that seeing her didn’t affect him.

The three hour bus trip to Canberra was uneventful. Gerard sat at the front of the bus while Eva sat in the middle. There were about 60 people on the bus including Mr. Bendigo and Mr. Litmen the two other legal studies teachers who taught the other classes. Gerard didn’t have to do much other than sit there and make small talk with whoever decided to speak to him. However, him being famous and all still intimidated some people so not many people had the courage to speak to him- which was to his benefit.

When they had arrived at their destination, the students were asked to grab their bags and lead them inside the hotel they were staying in. It was a decent hotel that would provide standard sleeping quarters for the students. There were three to a room with teachers having their own room.

There was one floor booked out to the school with the best rooms saved for the teachers of course. The hotel was clean and comfortable with white linen and light grey carpet. The rooms were relatively new with three single beds in each room and a tv.
Gerard’s room however, was far better. There was a king size bed at the centre of the room with a couch, a spa, a shower, a fireplace and a mini bar.

Eva and her “friends” were asked to drop their stuff in the room and meet in the hotel lobby so that the bus could drop them off at parliament house. Gerard had looked around and saw Eva standing in her group of friends silently. His eyes focussed on her for a minute and just at that moment her eyes decided to foccus on him.

Eva panicked.

They had made eye contact. They stared for three seconds before they both turned away at the same time and continued doing what they were doing prior to the awkward yet intense eye contact- standing by themselves being lonely.

Parliament house was a drag. The school was taken on a tour of the building, but most people were so hungry they just wanted to leave and eat. After two hours they left and headed back to the hotel for afternoon tea, dinner and free time. Eva spent this time being contemplative while Gerard spent it checking up on students and ensuring no one had snuck alcohol into the rooms.

By the time ten o clock had hit, all students were confined to their rooms and asked not to leave until the next morning. Nick was overheard earlier saying a few people were heading over to his room for a massive weed session.

Before Eva went into her room she noticed Gerard’s room was located furthest away from all their rooms and she saw him enter it sadly and with his head down. Eva was a thoughtful person despite everything, and had an open mind. Despite everything, Eva could understand how he was feeling and imagined it would hurt. He had left his country because he thought his baby wasn’t his due to his wife’s cheating ways, only to find out the baby was his.

Eva had a shower last and got into a Peter Alexander silk pyjama dress.

“I hate that you have the best body,” whined Amanda to Eva as Eva hopped into her bed. “Look at those legs.”
The girls spent the night talking until about 11 when both Amanda and Rebecca had fallen asleep. Eva was still contemplative. She sat in bed thinking about her life and the adventure she had had just in the first two months alone.

It was 12:23 in the morning when it hit Eva what she needed to do.

Gerard was barely asleep. He hadn’t moved from his position since hopping into bed at 10. He had just turned the TV off 3 minutes ago only to hear a knocking noise. It was barely even audible, but he heard it.

He moved out of his position to hear his body cracking from being stuck in one position to long. He took a step out of bed and headed towards the door.

He rubbed his eyes before placing his hands firmly on the brass door knob and turning it.

To say he was shocked was an understatement. Standing in front of him in a somewhat revealing yet innocent silk pyjama dress exposing her legs was Eva. His eyes adjusted to the picturesque human in front of him and his heart leapt.

“What ar..” he began to stutter but was forced back by the landing of Eva’s lips on his.

Without a seconds thought he grabbed onto her waist pulled her in and kicked the door behind her closed, all without taking his lips off hers. He lifted her slightly and pushed her back on the door, kissing her lips passionately, forcing her body to be held up by the wall behind her.

Her hands moved frantically but forcefully in his hair while his lips moved from the corners of her mouth and began leaving trails of kisses to her neck. She moaned at the feeling of ecstasy she felt from the heat of his lips on her cold skin.

Her hands moved on top of his shirt down his sides caressing his toned body through the material before pulling it up over his head. At this he lifted her from her bottom so that her legs wrapped around his waist and he led her to the king size bed, placing her roughly yet somehow gently on the mattress. He looked down at her perfect self before climbing onto the bed himself and kissing her lips again. His lips trailed down her neck once more and then reached her bony shoulder.

He wanted to taste her creamy skin. He was a beast wanting to do so much to her and all the effort not to take her virginity was killing him inside. He moved the spaghetti strap off her shoulder and leant downwards towards her breasts. He hesitated for a moment and looked deeply into her eyes.

“Do it,” Eva whispered groggily, lust sweeping over her voice.

Without hesitation he pulled the pyjama dress down slightly so that both her breasts were exposed. His mind was racing at the hidden glory and couldn’t contain himself any longer. He placed his lips on her breasts sucking at them and taking the nipples into his teeth.
Eva moaned sensually and grabbed his hair making the fire in him spread further, if it could any more.

He took her inexperienced body and removed the now flimsy pyjama from it exposing her in just her underwear. His pyjama pants now exposed a large bulge and her panties were wet with heat.
He trailed kisses down her stomach and pushed his body in between her legs.

The contact of the bulge and her panties sent Gerard into a frenzy. He lent down to kiss her lips once again and this time Eva pushed his chest back and climbed on top of him so that he was on the bottom.

She kissed his lips and then headed towards his ear. The hot breath from her mouth in his ear made his stomach twist.

“I want you,” she whispered hotly before he grabbed her and forced his mouth on her again.
His bulge once again made contact with her panties and the rubbing of each other while making out soon sent them both in a euphoric feeling.

Gerard pulled Eva down on his chest and grabbed a sheet to cover both their exposed chests.

“I can’t give you my virginity yet,” said Eva through struggling breaths. “I’m sorry.”

“I don’t care,” said Gerard simply and honestly his eyes looking into hers intensely.

He held her there and looked up at the ceiling feeling both extremely happy yet scared.

In his arms he held someone extremely special, who he didn’t think he would ever have the chance of finding again. Yet, he knew that soon he had to go back and he didn’t know how to tell her. He had a feeling she knew though.

The thought of wanting to be with someone so much and wanting to protect them, run away with them and be with them forever was a new feeling- and it was scary. He hadn’t even felt this way with Lindsey.

He held her tighter and Eva’s body warmed up in his arms.

“I love you,” he whispered.
That was all she needed to fall asleep and feel safe for at least one night.
