01. Eastern Commanding Office
The floors creaked. The chairs squeaked. The windows needed polishing, the typewriters were seriously outdated, and the carpeting needed to be cleaned and overhauled. In short, Central East was an administrator's nightmare.
And he was on charge of it now. Joy.
"Colonel."
He turned his head slightly, enough to see a saluting blue uniform. "Report." He'd remember who was addressing him after a few sentences.
"Sergeant-Major Fury sends his compliments and regrets that he can't be here in person, but wishes to inform you that there are wiretaps on the lines into and out of the Commanding Office. He also wishes to add that there is a possibility that he may be able to set up an unauthorized line to contact Major Hughes."
"Is that all?" He was still searching his brain. He hadn't asked anyone except Fury to report on communications status.
"Yes, sir." The man hesitated briefly. "Your leave, sir?"
He turned around, clever black eyes assessing Second Lieutenant Havoc. "What is the head count here?"
"Approximately half-and-half, sir. First Lieutenant Hawkeye recommends to take things slowly at the moment."
"Intelligent woman. Dismissed, Lieutenant."
The blonde saluted briskly and turned on his heel. He sighed. A loyal group of about - what? four? five soldiers? - against the established government. This could get tough.
