“Can you enunciate more?” Les asked, sitting at the back of the theatre. Gerard nodded. “From the top?” he asked. “Yeah, go!” Les shouted, waving his arms.
Gerard laughed, and started again from the start of ‘You can fly! You can Fly! You can fly!’
“No, no....God. Take five,” Les instructed, running a hand over his face. Gerard glowered. If he had to run through ‘You can fly!’ one more time, he might kill somebody.
His parents had returned the permission slip, along with a big letter about how quiet it was at home with their little Gee gone. Blech.

Gerard noticed Sidney got in a better mood the closer Halloween got.
“I love Halloween. It’s my favourite holiday, right next to my birthday.”
Sidney even offered to make the boys costumes.
“Really?” Frankie asked, looking up from his toast. “Yeah, sure. I know I’m kind of a huge jerk, but I’m working on that. What’d you wanna be?” Sid replied, pushing around the dregs of his cereal.
“Batman, duh!”
Sidney nodded. “Choice. Who else?”
“Leonardo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!” Ray shouted.
“Awesome!” Frankie yelled, high-fiving Ray.

“I’ll see what I can do,” Sidney said, grinning. Mikey stared off into the distance, thinking hard. “What’re you gonna be, Mikes?” Gee asked his little brother. “I’m either gonna be Astro Boy, or Harry Potter,” Mikey replied, quite seriously.
Sidney laughed. “You should be Astro Boy, no offense, but you look too much like HP to actually do a convincing costume.”
“He’s got a point,” Ray agreed.

“What about you, Gee? What’re you dressing up as?” Frankie asked. Gee shrugged. He hadn’t really thought about Halloween.

“What?! You have to be something!”
“No I don’t!”
“Yeah you do!” Sidney jumped in.
Gee just glared at him. “Oh my God, you look like me,” Sidney said, mock upset.
“Ha ha ha,” Gerard said, packing as much sarcasm as he could.
“Seriously, though, just be Spider-man or something,” Ray told Gerard.
“Can’t. Did that last year.”
“Uh...Wolverine?”
“Wolverine sucks.”
“You suck!”
“No, YOU suck!”
“Easy, easy. Ray, Wolverine is kind of overrated. Gerard, Ray’s right, you do suck,” Sidney said, stealing Mikey’s toast. “Hey!” Gerard snapped, while the others laughed. After much other tries to find a costume (Superman, Jesus, Knight, zombie, himself) the boys eventually wandered off to class.

Sidney was ambushed by John in between math and science.
“I’ve got bad news.”
Sidney swore that his heart stopped. “What’s happened?”
“The clubhouse’s collapsed in the storm we had the other day, so the Midnight Troupe’s got nowhere to meet,” John explained, running his hands through his hair.

“Oh, Fuck! What’re we gonna do? We can’t find another place in a week! I delivered all the cards last night!” Sidney panicked. “We can, but we’ve got to look around. How do you feel about ditching science?” John asked, a smirk forming on his face. Sidney shook his head.
“What? Sidney Gumb actually going to class? You might be a prefect yet!”
“I’ll miss enough classes enough for that stupid club. Go find it yourself, yeah?” Sidney snapped, and darted off.
“C’mon Sid! I can’t do this without you!”
Sidney slowed down. Damn him. Damn him and his damn plan.
Fiiiiiine....” Sid sighed, like he was being forced to do something that would potentially kill him. “Great! Now haul ass!” John said, grabbing Sid’s blazer to pull him behind him.

Alexia was walking back to her dorm from History when she saw Sidney. Sidney was talking to himself loudly, and he walked right past her on his way to the school.
Alexia shook her head. Crazy kid. Was she worried about him? Of course not, no way! She’d known Sid since forever, and he’d always been unstable.
Thinking back to the cards she’d been hearing about, she wondered why she didn’t get any. The resident lesbian got one, Apollonia, wasn’t it? So did a couple of other girls, and some guys. They also said they got a note, but everybody’s was different.

If you are reading this, then you have been hand-selected. We’ve been watching you. You are angry. On October 31st, come out to play. Bring your fists, your upset words, and I will find you.

Shaking her head, Alexia cleared the words from her head. There was only one kid who would do this, but Sidney wasn’t stupid enough to do this. He could get expelled, and he hated being home, although he never told her why.
Worrying silently, Alexia headed off to science, and waited for Sidney to show up.
He didn’t, but that was okay. He was fine. He was okay.
