Shawn’s the full back for our team, the Warriors. He’s the only black guy on the team. I can say that, because he’s my best friend. No racism meant.
“And the Warriors have won the game!” the announcer screamed. The whole stadium erupted in cheers. Even Mr. Anderson, who was sitting three rows down from me. I looked at Shawn’s girlfriend, Janeya. She was so beautiful, standing there in her Warrior’s cheer uniform. She’s captain. I remember trying out with her in our junior year. She has light green eyes, and a petite little nose, for an African-American. I’m not being racist; I’m just trying to let you see what I see.
She has long, curly black hair with purple and red highlights; they match her cheerleading uniform so well. And she’s just perfect. Definitely going to be Homecoming Queen for sure.

Everyone left as soon as the game was over to get ready for the dance. I rushed home, and had another shower. When I got out, Julie, our maid, did my hair for me. I have really long, dead straight platinum blonde hair. And yeah, I know that heaps of girls would kill for my hair, but it’s not that great.
So Julie put my hair up in a bun and curled it all, pinning each curl down as she went. My gown was to die for. It was full length, strapless and the same shade of baby blue as my eyes. The bodice has small crystals all over it, front and back, but they’re so small, they look like sparkles.
The skirt is long and flowy. And I had a gorgeous white pair of stilettos to match. By eight thirty, I was ready. Good thing too, because Shawn, Janeya and some other friends had showed up in the limo out the front.

“Are you ready to discover you Homecoming King and Queen for 2012?” boomed the DJ, who really sucked. My DJ for my party was going to be so much better. My parents organized a surprise DJ to come do a gig. Better than this shitty ranga.
“Yes!” we all cried back, even though no matter what we said, it was still going to happen.
Mrs Molly, our principal took the stage.
“What a year we had last year! Let’s hope this year’s better! Mr Anderson, will you please assist me in reading out the names?”
He walked up to the stage, being the hot stud that he is. He wore a black suit, and his bright blue eyes matched his tie. His black hair was spiked up, kinda like Taylor Lautner’. He is the reason I haven’t had a boyfriend for the past two years.
He’s only 23, and he’s single. I have some kind of chance.
“This year’s Homecoming King is…” read Mrs Molly, “Kyle Miller!”
The whole crowd cheered. It wasn’t un-expected though. He is the most popular guy in school. And he was pretty good looking. Shawn better be careful; he’s the one who’s going to be dancing with Janeya when she won.
“And his Queen,” Mr Anderson said, as Mrs Molly crowned Kyle, “is…”
Janeya Prescott.
“Schuyler Hewitt!”
What?!
Janeya, who stood next to me, shoved me towards the stage. I was still shocked. No way. No freaking way. I wasn’t even that popular any more. Or was I?
“Congratulations, Skye.” Mr Anderson said, as he crowned me. No-one’s ever called me Skye before, ever. I cried a tear of happiness as Kyle and I danced in the spotlight.
