You're Not Who You Were

Joel sat in the fountain with Benji holding, it's been 20 minutes after calling Billy, Billy was on his way

Linzi sat on a bench glaring at Hilary

Hilary and Kelsey sat on another bench across from Linzi having a major staring contest with Linzi

Joel looked at them and he frowned, "Stop fucking staring at each other!" He yelled

They all looked away at once

The spot around was cleared of people and if people walked past they stayed far away, especially if they had children with them

Billy walked up

Hilary looked at him and she smiled then her smile went to a frown

Billy stood there looking at Hilary his arms crossed, he looked upset, pissed, mad, and worried all at once. He looked down then looked at her, he walked up to Linzi not taking his eyes away from Hilary, "You better wipe that smile from your face..." He said and grabbed Linzi's arm

Linzi smiled at Hilary

Billy looked at Linzi, "You to!" He said anger in his voice

Linzi looked at him then looked away

Billy looked back at Hilary shaking his head, "Hilary... I'm sorry but..." He looked away, "You're not who you were..." He said helping Linzi up

Hilary glared at Linzi then looked at
Billy, "You aren't a bag of roses." She said looking away, "In other words your choice of girls is shity." She said

Billy looked at her, "I know. Cause I knew you..." He said and started walking with Linzi
Hilary's mouth dropped, "What? Billy we were best friends!" She said

Billy stopped pushing Linzi lightly forward, "Yeah I know. We were best friends. Things change." He said and started walking after Linzi

Hilary looked at Kelsey

Kelsey looked at her and hugged her

Hilary looked at Joel, "Why... Why do you hate Baltimore people Joel?" She asked

Joel looked at her, "Because, I want to. Everyone I love dearly gets hurt by a person from Baltimore." He said looking at Benji, "My brother is a gentle person Hilary. I don't want that broken." He started shaking Benji who was asleep

Benji opened his eyes slightly looking up at Joel

Joel stood up with Benji, he put Benji's arm around his shoulder and put his own arm around Benji's waist and holding Benji's other hand with his other hand looked at Hilary, "I seriously suggest you two head back to where you belong. Baltimore." He said and stepped carefully out of the fountain with Benji and started walking

Benji looked back at Hilary holding Joel's shirt to his head, he tilted his head and looked back down then forward

Hilary looked at Benji then looked down, "Let's go home Kelsey." She said and stood up walking

Kelsey grabbed Hilary's hand, "I should've helped you more." She said looking down

Hilary smiled, "I would've died when she had my head under water if not for you." She said

Kelsey smiled, "I know I got to risk my life for you, you know?" She said laughing

Hilary and Kelsey were driving back to Baltimore, Hilary driving. Hilary looked down then back at the road tears going to her eyes, "I love him..." She said

Kelsey blinked and looked at her

Hilary closed her eyes then open them again sighing, "Nothing..." She said

Kelsey looked down not saying anything

Hilary looked at the engagement ring on her finger. She sighed and still driving started to take it off, "You want this?" She asked looking at Kelsey

Kelsey looked at her, "What? Your engagement ring?" She asked

Hilary looked at her nodding, "Yes. You might get luckier than I am now." She said looking down tears in her eyes then she looked back at the road

Kelsey looked at her, "I don't get it." She said

Hilary blinked and looked at her in the corner of her eye

Kelsey had her head rested on her hand, "Why he hates Baltimore..." She said

Hilary shrugged, "Don't ask me." She looked forwards

After awhile Hilary dropped Kelsey off and headed home. She sat in her room in a chair in front of the mirror. She looked around hearing voices, "Billy! Billy... Do you mean it Billy, will you stay with me?" Hilary looked around standing up looking at the mirror, in the mirror she saw Billy as a little boy and her as a little girl standing on the beach. Hilary shook her head, "Don't..." She looked away the voices coming back, "Why are you giving me this? You going somewhere?" Hilary covered her ears and shook her head, "That's not the Billy I knew!" She screamed and threw her fist at the mirror hitting it making it shatter, Hilary backed up

She grabbed the chair and hurtled it across the room and backed up again and hit the bed, she spun around and grabbed her pillow and started tearing at it ripping it apart crying, "Go away Billy! I hate you!" She fell to the floor grabbing the blankets as she fell, she started wiggling around in the blankets getting tangled up. She sat up and sat there for a while
looking down breathing heavy.

She stood up and looked across the room and walked up to the closet and threw open the door and started tossing things from her closet breakable or not. She grabbed her clothes in a bunch and tossed them across the room the clothes flying everywhere. She grabbed her jewelry box and dumped everything out and started digging through all the jewelry. She stopped and held up the ring Billy gave her that long time ago. She put it in her hand and held it close to her chest. She looked up and tears rolled down her cheeks

The next afternoon

Hilary pulled up to Wal-Mart and walked in. She looked along the cash registers.

Joel stood there counting his money. Looks like he was getting off work

Hilary started towards him, "I need to talk to you Joel." She said

Joel stopped and looked at her, "No..." He said and started walking with the bag of money

Hilary grabbed his arm, "Joel..."

Joel pulled away and turned to her, "Do you know that my brother had to get stitches where he hit his head on the fountain. The cause was long about as long as my middle finger!" He said looking at her tears in his
eyes, "Baltimore people..." He said and turned away and started walking

Hilary blinked and started following him, "I don't get you!" She said grabbing his arm and turning him around

Joel watched her, "What!" He pulled his arm away, "Why I hate Baltimore? Why I hate people from there? Because no matter what happens anyone I love gets hurt from there!" Joel looked down, "You hurt my brother and my little sister Sarah got raped by a gang of ass holes!" Joel screamed crying

Hilary blinked and walked forward, "Joel..." she grabbed his arm

Joel closed his eyes tears rolling down his cheeks, "I laid there pinned down by two guys while my brother laid unconscious in a corner of the alley soon followed by a 3 month coma and my little sister got raped right in front of me! I watched my sister get raped and I couldn't do anything and my brother was halfway bleeding to death cause he tried to stop the guys and he was beaten and stabbed! That's why he has his tattoos! To cover the scars! That scars of that night!" Joel covered his face, "I couldn't help her or him! I was helpless!" He looked at her, "That's why I hated Baltimore people! It was at a football game that was at your school!" He looked to the side, "Not to long after my sister was so paranoid she wouldn't leave the house for a whole five months, three of them five Benji was in the coma. She wouldn't even leave to see him! Then one day when we went to go see Benji in the hospital she tried to commit suicide because she was so scared! We came home to her bleeding in our bathroom on the floor! I found her there. Also after Benji got out of the hospital he couldn't remember anything, walk straight, or do much of what he could. It all slowly came back to him! I was getting horrified because my family around me was dying and I didn't know what to do!"

Hilary watched him tears in her eyes, "Joel I didn't know..." She said watching him

Joel looked at her, "That's why when Benji hit his head I thought his memory would be lost again. Please Hilary don't hurt Billy! Don't take Billy from me! He's my best friend, the only thing I have besides my family!" He cried

Hilary watched him and walked up and pulled him into her arms, "I knew Billy back in Hawaii. I won't hurt or take him." She said trying to not cry

People throughout the store stood and watched them quite

Joel pulled back, "I..." He looked away wiping tears away, "I will tell you where Billy... Lives." He said

Hilary blinked, "But?" She blinked then smiled nodding, "Ok."

Joel started writing on a piece of paper and he gave the paper to her

She took it and looked at it. She looked at him and hugged him, "Thank you so much Joel!" She kissed him on the cheek and took off running

Joel stood there watching her and he
sighed, "Maybe that is what I needed. To cry my life out..." He looked around at everyone who were watching him, "What!" He yelled, "Stop staring please!"

Everyone started walking around and talking again

Joel looked at the doors, "I wonder..." He smiled and started walking
