The World of Dragnar

Dragnar is a land which is split up into two realms: The realm of the dragon people, the dragonites, and the realm of the houoh phoenix people.

The realms of Dragnar are quite a couple of unique worlds. The dragonite race is a race of dragon/witch hybrids with human-like intelligence and skills. Most humans would think of dragons as dumb, mindless killing machines out to kill livestock, set fire to forests and feast on young virgin maidens. But that is all false. The dragon races are much more intelligent than we humans think.

Phoenixes, on the other hand, are more revered by humans than dragons are (unless you follow Asian cultures, where both dragons and phoenixes are revered). But there are both good and evil phoenixes, just like how there is good and evil dragons.

Both the dragon realm and the phoenix realm have a wide variety of climates, from tropical jungles and arid deserts to frigid arctic regions and peaceful looking plains. It is somewhat similar to our world, but the biggest difference being the high magic content and the saturation of strange and unpredictable creatures. In fact, the world of Dragnar can be quite a dangerous place. Even places like schools and temples can get infested by aggressive monstrosities once in a while. That is enough incentive for you to pay attention to your surroundings, be prepared for any worst case scenario and not carelessly wander off.

The dragonites are descendants of the ancient dragon gods lead by Gilgamesh and their witch brides. The males took on the father's dragon-like appearance while the females took on the mother's more humanoid appearance. Both genders do have similar builds, horns, retractable wings and the ability to turn into a dragon. To human eyes, females are more attractive than males, but there are possibly some humans out there who find the more monstrous male dragonites beautiful too.

The houoh are the descendants of the phoenix gods led by Feng and his divine bride Huang. Both genders look humanoid and have retractable feathered wings, and talon like hands and feet. The feathers of males are bright and vibrant colored, while females have feathers that are more dull and subdued than the males. In the eyes of humans, male houohs are more attractive than the females, due to the bright, radiant colors of the males, as opposed to the dull, earthy colors of the females. Then again, like most avian creatures, male houoh phoenixes are much more colorful and ornamented than females, so they can attract the attention of the female houoh phoenixes. Female houohs tend to be more dull and earthy colored, so they can blend in with natural environments and avoid possible danger.

Many centuries ago, the dragon god Lothurr and the phoenix god Karulla fought each other to the death, Basarla inherited the soul of the fallen dragon god and become the new dragon god of light. As Karulla died fighting Lothurr, Melektaus inherited the fallen phoenix god's soul and there, Basarla and Melektaus became enemies for centuries, but Basarla demanded a cease fire from the Phoenix's light kingdom. Thus, the dragon's realm and the phoenix's realm became separated from this day forward.

Lifespan:

Both dragonites and houoh phoenixes have a much longer lifespan and age slower than humans. While the oldest known human was rumored to live up to be 150 years old, the oldest dragonite lived up to be 50,000 years old, while the oldest houoh phoenix lived to be 55,000. In dragonites and houohs a like, childhood ends at 100 years old and adolescent years begins at 150 years and ends at the 200 year age mark. So therefore, dragonites and houohs, alongside a lot of the other creatures of Alefa, have childhoods that are much longer than the average human childhood.

Humans in Dragnar:

Dragnar is a very unpredictable world where humans are either feared or revered by both houohs and dragonites alike. Some dragonite mothers would tell scary stories about humans and "the humans under the bed" stories to scare their children into good behavior, while others tell their children stories of good, heroic humans aiding dragon warriors in their quest and helping them out in dire situations. Humans in Dragnar must prove their worthiness and trust to a dragon/phoenix god before being accepted in Dragnar.

Humans that end up in Dragnar are sometimes known to fall in love with houoh or dragonites, marry them and produce hybrid children with them. Human/dragonite and human/houoh offsprings have both their strengths and weaknesses. Hybrid children live longer than their human parent, have retractable wings and are skilled at magical and mental abilities. However, hybrid children can't transform into dragon or phoenix form, hybrid children are also usually known to be shorter than pure blood children and aren't as physically strong as pure blooded children. Hybrid dragonites and hybrid houohs look more like regular human beings, save for the horns, retractable wings and retractable plumage in male houoh hybrids.

However, humans in Dragnar have to be very cautious, since there are a lot of fearsome and downright dangerous creatures that lurk in Dragnar. Humans that are aloof and careless usually end up as three things: a slave, dead, or eaten alive. Some of the rather fearsome creatures that lurk in Dragnar include the Surma, a fearsome rat/dog hybrid that can turn you to stone if you look into its eyes and the Mack Naughen, a huge serpent with a chicken like head that has a voracious appetite for gems and metals (so don't wear shiny sparkly things when approaching its lair, or you'll be eaten in seconds).

So to all humans who end up in Dragnar: Be prepared, expect the unexpected, and enjoy life while you can, for tomorrow (or any other day) is uncertain.

Minority races:

Minority races (besides humans) include various species of yokai (from the world of Yoseitochi), banished demons, witches and warlocks (from the world of Nornheim). Since dragonites are hybrid of dragon god and witches, witches and warlocks are actually the biggest minority race. The witch clans and dragonites get along together rather well and were known to produce hybrid offsprings together, with both strengths and weaknesses of each clan.

Second comes the faerie-like yokai, which are either seen as beneficial or as invasive pests, depending on the species. These faerie-like beings in the worlds of Alerfa aren't the typical beautiful butterfly winged women in gossamer gowns like human artists portray them to be. No way Jose! Some yokai ranged from beautiful to ugly, from somewhat humanoid to rather beastly. The most annoying type of invasive yokai species are the Slug and Snail Sprites (also known as yamekuji and katatsumuri yokai), which are known to voraciously devour crops, as well as soiling them and making them inedible. However, the most dangerous of yokai that made their way into Dragnar is the infamous Jorougumo, which are woman/spider hybrid creatures that trap dragonites or houohs in thick gooey webs before either killing them or taking advantage of them in the horrifying and disturbing ways ever imaginable to any living being.

Occasionally, beings from other worlds come by and participate in otherworld exchange programs in Dragnar and some sporting events from other worlds are held in Dragnar sport stadiums. Both dragonites and houohs take interest in foreign beings, and are curious to know more about foreign beings outside of Dragnar.

However, just like with humans, the other non-dragon, non-phoenix creatures (save for the witch races) have to prove their worthiness to the head dragon/phoenix god before being accepted into Dragnar.
