My daddy was a starving artist
Before my father met my mother my daddy was the art director of rolling stones magazine I remember sitting in his studio while he would tell me stories of how he used to travel all over the world he told me that when I got older he would take me to New York when I was young everything he told me was the truth but now that I’m older I realize that he was too sick to take me any where my father was an alcoholic and a drug abuser.
My father was an extremely intelligent, creative, supportive man my father is and always will be the best man in the world to me even though he didn’t always make good choices he was my daddy he once explained to me that he was glad I was a girl because even though he didn’t gain much from going to the AA meetings he did learn that women where more forgiving then men where and that he knew he needed to be forgiven for alot
by the time my mother met my father he wasn’t successful anymore. when they met he was passed out drunk under a tree in my mom’s friends back yard he asked her to marry him that day but of course my mother said no. eventually he got sober for a little while and they did get married.my father was good for my mom my mother was in a terribly abusive marriage before my father the man she was married to was named mike he would beat my mother tell her she was ugly and stupid and on several occasions tried to kill my brother Jake and my sister Becky. My father taught my mother that she was beautiful and to defend herself he supported her going back to school while her last husband wouldn’t let her leave the house.
When my mom got pregnant with me Jake was 10 and Becky was 9 my brother was in denial about my mother’s pregnancy and kept telling my mom she wasn’t pregnant she was just getting fat. The day I was born my dad was laying in the hospital bed next to my mother as she gave birth to me drinking a beer with the rest of the six-pack under the hospital bed
after I was born my family moved to the Sothern tear we rented a big house on the top of a really big hill with about 15 acres of land my mom had a very love hate relationship with that house my mom loved the country in the summer spring and fall because she loved the colors and the animals she loved the pond in the back yard and the room she had to garden but during the winter it was cold and the house was freezing we only had a wood burning furnace and the hole house felt like an ice cube my mom would rap me in a baby sleeping coat witch would zip up in a cocoon from my feet to my neck with my blond curls sticking out of the hood it made resemble a cozy little worm I would swarm around chasing after my sister and brother witch only made me look more worm like the house was also very far away from any type of corner store or super market and the only car we had was falling apart sometimes it couldn’t even make it up the hill to our house my dad was always drunk in the winter and when my mom would send him to the store for diapers for my 1 year old self he would come back with a 40 for himself and no diapers my dad was always at his worst during winter because he was a sign painter and there’s no work for sign painters in the winter it also didn’t help that we lived in the middle of no ware when he and my mother lived in the city he could go to a car dealership and paint the prices of the cars on the windows of the cars for 10 dollars a car it took him about 5 minutes to paint a price so in about a hour he could make about 120 dollars but the nearest car lot was miles away so he couldn’t even go and make a little money without driving out of the county not to menschen getting him to go any ware except to the fridge for another beer when he was drunk pointless
one day while my dad was probably passed out somewhere my mom packed all of our things and moved us back to Niagara falls leaving my daddy in the cold rickety house all by himself this was her first attempt to leave my father because of his drinking problem
