"Mikes? Mikey. C'mon, buddy, wake up," someone was prodding me repeatedly in the side, muttering my name. I groaned and rolled over onto my other side.
"Mm. Still sleepy," I mumbled.
"I know you are, buddy, but you need to wake up," I rolled back over to see Gerard crouching beside me. I was lying on his couch with a blanket tangled around me and several couch cushions tucked underneath my head. He smiled at me. "Hey, bud. Sleep well?"
"Not really," I remembered. I stretched and sat up straight. "Mm. What time is it?"
"Ten," he said. "You have a few missed calls."
"From Alicia?" I scrabbled for my phone.
"I think," Gerard didn't look too impressed with me. I decided not to care.
Alicia and I had had a huge argument the night before. Hence the reason I was staying at Gerard's. It was something that was happening more and more regularly. We'd have a huge fight about something pretty pointless, I'd get so mad that I walked out and end up spending the night on Gee's couch. I'd go home in the morning and we'd make up. It was the same every time.
As soon as I managed to unlock my phone with my shaking hands, I dialled Alicia's number. She answered after it'd rang two times.
"Hello?" she said.
"Hi, babe," I said, quietly. I didn't know what kind of mood she'd be in, or how upset she was with me. I hated knowing she was upset and it was my fault. She sighed.
"Mikey. Hey," she sniffed.
"Are you at home, baby?" I asked.
"Yeah - but can we meet for coffee? We need to talk," she said.
"Um. Yeah, sure okay," I said. She just sighed loudly. "Starbucks on fourth?"
"Sure," she said. "Meet you there in twenty minutes?"
"Okay. I love you, honey," I said.
"See you at Starbucks," she replied. Then she hung up.
I just stared at the wall for about a minute. Gerard put his hand on my back. "Everything okay, bud?" he asked.
"Yeah," I said. "I'm um... I'm meeting Alicia at the Starbucks on Fourth. She says we need to talk."
"Oh. Is that bad?"
"I don't know,"
"Well is it good?"
"Probably not," I sighed. "I'm gonna go. Maybe see you later on, yeah?"
"Yeah, sure," he said. "Good luck."
"Thanks," I said. I left the house and got into my car in the driveway.
I sat and cried for five minutes before I set off.
"Mm. Still sleepy," I mumbled.
