Park

"Why are you crying?" a 7-year-old Zac asked as he looked down on a crying little girl sitting on the bench.

"I'm lost," replied a 6-year-old Vanessa still crying. "This is my first in this place. Can you help me find my mum?"

"Okay, but only if you give me a free balloon and ice cream!" said Little Zac with a mischievous smile.

"Uh, okay," Little Vanessa said hesitantly. "But after we find my mum first, deal?" stretching out her little hand.

"Okay! Deal," shaking her hand.

They walked around the park and even passed the water fountain seven times. But still there was no luck. Until Little Zac finally said,

"We can't find her. Why don't I give you a first class tour here because you said it's your first here? I've been here a gazillion times!"

"What about my mum? Don't you want your balloon and ice cream anymore?"

"We'll find your mum later and of course my prize," he suddenly changed his smile from mischievous to friendly. "I want you to have a blast on your first time here!"

"I guess it's okay.."

"C'mon!" Little Zac grabbed Little Vanessa's hand.

Holding hands, he showed her where the pigeons are. They run after them for so many times that I've lost count to it. Then an old man gave them little pieces of bread and fed them to the pigeons.

Little Zac borrowed two bikes from his neighbors who happened to have a walk in the park. He and Little Vanessa had a race and well, I promised them not to tell anyone who won. (A/N It was Zac, lol).

Then Little Zac found an abandoned kite and tried to fly it but he failed. Little Vanessa grabbed the kite and flew it as if it was as simple as ABCs. He stared at her for a moment but continued to play with her.

The kite was then stuck to a tree and Little Zac climbed it to get the kite. Sadly, the kite was torn and destroyed. This made Little Vanessa sad. Then he grabbed her hand and took her to the playground, his favorite part of the park.

Seeing the playground, Little Vanessa skipped in joy as she ran around it. They played on the slide and seesaw. Then she approached the swings.

"Hey little boy, swing me!" exclaimed an overjoyed Little Vanessa.

"Hey little girl, I have a name," he grabbed the swing and began to push her. "It's Zac."

"I'm Vanessa,"

"Vanessa, I like that name,"

"Haha, I know. I like my name too, " she giggled.

"Hey, you're supposed to say you like my name too. It's a rule," he said in a matter-of-fact tone.

"Says who?"

"I don't know, it's what I always hear when my mum talks with other big girls." He accidentally pushed the swing too hard making Little Vanessa fall out of her seat.

"Ow!" Little Vanessa cried holding her wounded knee. Little Zac came towards her.

"Are you okay?" checking her wound. Thankfully, it wasn't too deep.

"What are you doing?" looking at him as he wraps his handkerchief around her knee and tying it into a knot.

"My mum did this to me when I had a scratch once. There."

"Thank-Hey, I shouldn't thank you, you just pushed me!"

"Hey-I just saved your life!"

"Hmph!" thrusting her head in the air.

"Fine!" facing the other way.

Little Vanessa noticed the anger in his tone so she had a quick glance in his way. Little Zac also caught a glimpse of her at the same time. They caught each other's eyes for a second..

"Vanessa, there you are!" called Little Vanessa's mom.

"Mum!" she ran towards her mother. They hugged for quite some time and carried her to the car.

"Wait, Mum! I want you to meet my friend," she looked at where Little Zac but he was gone. "Oh," She felt sad and disappointed.

"I guess you friend left. Nessa, baby, how about we go to the restaurant first and eat your favorite tuna sandwiches?" asked her mother.

"Okay, mum," still looking sadly for Little Zac.

Little Vanessa continued wearing her sad face. Her mother doesn't seem to notice it. But something brightened her face when they reached the car.

A red balloon tied around a little rock was placed in front of the car. A little note was attached to it. It says in dirty scribbles "Thank you!!"

As they drove back home, Little Vanessa kept looking at the bright red balloon and the note.

How Little Vanessa wishes she could meet Little Zac again.
