"Maybe, because you are a big headed git!" Lilly screamed at a dark haired boy who was running his hands through his wild hair.
"Come on Evans!" James Potter said. "We're the Head's! We have to live together!"
"If you think that I'm going to share a dorm, much less a common room with you then you are sadly mistaken." Lilly said as she stormed out of the portrait hole, leaving a confused James behind.
"Bad luck Prongs." Said Sirius Black, James' best friend and second in command of the Marauders.
James swore under his breath as his friend turned back to his chess game with Remus. James was in love with Lilly. Not just your every day love. Your head over heals, I can't breath, I think sleep and eat you type love. He had been this way ever since Lilly had moved across the street from James' family when he was four. He remembered asking his mother if angels had red hair. She just laughed and went and introduced her self to the new neighbors. From that day on Lilly and James had been inseparable. They were the best of friends. That is until they had both gotten their Hogwarts letters.
Lilly had told James that she was leaving for boarding school. James had told her the same thing. He had been dreading the day that he had to tell her he was leaving for Hogwarts. They swore to each other that they would always be friends. Until that fateful day on the Hogwarts' Express.
~~~FLASHBACK~~~
"Mum, I'll be fine! Please give all my letters to Lilly's mother to give her!" an 11-year-old James said giving his mother one final hug.
"I will baby, please be good!" Mrs. Potter had said as James walked on the train.
James got on the train and looked for a place to sit. He found a compartment with a shabby looking wizard around his age.
"Hi, I'm James Potter is this compartment taken?" he asked.
"I'm Remus Lupin, and if you don't mind a really loud wizard by the name of Sirius Black coming back then I guess not." Remus said with a smile.
James chuckled and sat himself on the seat across from Remus. The talked for a little bit until a tall boy with curly black hair stepped in.
"Well, Remus my old boy it looks like Hogwarts won't ever be the same with me here! I took a look around and it looks like it might be quite and interesting first year. There's this one hot chick in our year with nice red hair! I hope she's in Gryffindor. That would be totally awesome!" said the strange boy.
"James this is Sirius, I met him a few days ago in Diagon Ally. He's about as loud as they get." Remus explained flashing a grin to Sirius.
Sirius gave a mock expression of innocence and sat down. The three chatted the entire way to Hogwarts.
At the sorting James was nervous. He had a lot of pressure to be put in Gryffindor. He wasn't paying much attention until Professor McGonagal called out an all to familiar name.
"Evans, Lillian."
James stared in disbelief at the red headed girl that walked up to the hat.
"GRYFFINDOR!" exclaimed the hat.
Lilly blushed and walked to the table where her fellow Gryffindors where clapping widely.
"That's the girl I was talking about James, the hot one on the train." Sirius whispered to James. James smacked the back of his head.
"Don't talk about Lilly like that!" James said.
Sirius looked confused. James was next and was sorted into Gryffindor. He took the seat next to Remus.
That night Remus and Sirius were celebrating being in the same house as each other. James however wasn't all that happy. He was confused. Why hadn't Lilly told him she was going to Hogwarts? He thought they were best friends.
"James Harold Potter!" He heard the all to familiar voice.
"Yes, Lilly?" James said looking her straight in the eye.
"Why didn't you tell me you were going to Hogwarts?" Lilly asked, the anger seemed to drip through her words.
"ME? Why didn't you tell me you were going here?" James yelled right back.
"I can't believe that I thought you were my best friend James Potter! To think I stuck around with a stuck up arrogant jerk like you!" She screamed and ran, another first year by the name of Kat Narry went after her shooting daggers at James.
"What was that all about?" Sirius asked his new friend.
James shook his head. Ever since that day Lilly had hated James.
~~~END FLASHBACK~~~
"I don't get it." James muttered, staring quizzically at the portrait hole. "What is with her?"
Sirius Shrugged. "Dunno mate. She seemed kinda pissed. Checkmate, but the way." He added to Remus.
"What?!" Remus exclaimed, staring franticly at the chessboard."
"What can I say?" Sirius said modestly, leaving back in his chair. "I'm just better than you."
"It can't be checkmate." Remus said to himself.
The portrait hole burst open and in walked Lilly's best friend, Kat Narry.
"Aren't we being a tad full of our self there Black?" Kat asked Sirius.
"I don't get how you hear everything Kat. Cat's aren't supposed to have great hearing. That's left for us dogs!" Sirius said while pulling out a chocolate frog.
"Us dogs?" Kat asked with her eyebrows raised. "At least you've said one right thing today. Anyways, Potter what did you do to Lilly?"
"Nothing!" James exclaimed, throwing his hands in the air. "Jeeze why does everyone think I did something?"
Kat rolled her eyes. "Because you usually do dumb ass."
"All I did was tell her that I couldn't wait to spend more time with her and she went postal on me!" James defended. "Then she goes on about how I'm a big headed git!" Self-consciously, James ran his hand through his mass of black hair making it more unruly. "I don't have a big head do I?"
Sirius grinned. " I Think it's a figure of speech Prongs."
"Oh," James pulled down his hand. "Right"
"So Kat, when are we going to get over this whole fighting thing and finally date?" Sirius asked, starting up another game of chess with Remus.
"Hmm, let me think about that one." Kat purred. "How about never?"
"Ouch Kat, when you scratch like that it hurts." Sirius said, pretending to be hurt.
"Ok enough with the cat references. You know I can't stand you Black so why bother?" She said turning towards the portrait hole.
"Because I love the way you get all flustered whenever I ask. It makes you look even more sexy." Sirius said, putting Remus in check.
"SIRIUS! Can't you let me just win one?!?" Remus asked.
"No." Sirius said, a goofy gin on his face.
Kat rolled her eyes and left the common room in search of her best friend.
"Come on Evans!" James Potter said. "We're the Head's! We have to live together!"
