The sunlight shines over you,
As I am engulfed by darkness,
Where does this path lead to?
In my heart, I stare deeper.
This beating heart is bittersweet,
My mind is my own jail,
These thoughts that I shall not repeat,
Keep me fastened down.
A smile plays at fragile lips,
Laughter echoes throughout the room,
Expressions fall like sinking ships,
The smile, wiped of its existence.
I can hardly recall the better days,
This dark pool haunting, swallowing,
I struggle to my feet but in many ways,
I understand what I've done.
A scar for each day of the week,
A tear for each day of the year,
And for those better days I begin to seek,
Bound in hope and love and passion.
As I am engulfed by darkness,
Where does this path lead to?
In my heart, I stare deeper.
This beating heart is bittersweet,
My mind is my own jail,
These thoughts that I shall not repeat,
Keep me fastened down.
A smile plays at fragile lips,
Laughter echoes throughout the room,
Expressions fall like sinking ships,
The smile, wiped of its existence.
I can hardly recall the better days,
This dark pool haunting, swallowing,
I struggle to my feet but in many ways,
I understand what I've done.
A scar for each day of the week,
A tear for each day of the year,
And for those better days I begin to seek,
Bound in hope and love and passion.
