1Moving
We slowly back off from each other, but only our faces moving, still in a dance-like embrace. We look towards where the sound came from in synchronisation, still swaying ever so slowly.
There’re three people stood there; One is Mikey looking rather queasy; one is a woman looking at us in awe; the other is a man looking pretty fucking angry.
Still embracing, Gerard and I slowly let go of each other. The mood now dead when it was so romantic – that moment didn’t deserve to end like that, it was going to turn out to be beautiful and perfect if only we’d finished it rather than being interrupted.
“Erm, oh god. I can explain, dad, I-“ Gerard starts frantically.
“Nope. I don’t want to hear it but we are going to have words. Although, not in front of your... friend.” His father cut him off, he didn’t know what to call me then. Great - theyhate me.
“No. But-“ Gerard tries to get his words heard.
“I’m having none of it, Gerard Arthur Way.” A full name in an angry sentence; Lord help him.
“Seriously, Donald, calm yourself. Come on, we’ll have a chat instead.” Says the woman; presumably Gerard’s mother. Please can you change his mind about me?
She puts her hand on his shoulder and leads him away, leaving me and Gerard stood very awkwardly with a very ill looking Mikey.
Our stance now is; bodies turned to each other; his hand on my hip, min on his shoulder – but only ever so loosely; the hands we held together before are now by our sides; and our faces are turned to the doorway where Mikey alone now stands.
“Wow. Awkward one, Gerard. You know what Dad’s like. I suggest you move to Mexico now whilst you’re still alive.” Mikey says. Wait. What is their dad like?
“Oh God, I know. Mikey, what am I gonna do?” He sounds so scared. My protective knight in shining armour – scared.
“I have no idea, dude, but I’d get prepared for this ‘chat’”
“Okay, yeah. He won’t do it whilst Frank’s here though. I can spend my last moments with you at least.” He tried to laugh at that last statement but it was a week, feeble and forced chuckle that makes me worry a lot more.
Mikey nods, spins around and walks away in the same direction as his parents went. Should I ask Gerard about it? Should I leave it?
“God, I’m so sorry about that, Frank.” Gerard says “I mean, it was a beautiful moment and I thought we had a little time. I guess this is really embarrassing for you.”
“Just a little, honestly though” I lie, it was mega embarrassing “If this is for keeps,” I place my hands back to where they were before we were disrupted – he gets the hint and does the same “They’ll have to know sooner or later, right?”
“I know but I’d wanted to tell them when I’m ready rather than them having to walk in on us before I wanted to say.” He says. Wow, I didn’t know how bad this is.
“Whatever. I can deal with it later, now – it’s our time.” Gerard says, changing his tune a little now – leaning in to finish the previously killed moment, trying to revive it. We kissed for about three seconds, lightly and gently, before pulling away; cautious of being caught again. If only we lived that moment out to its full potential.
“So what’re we gonna do?” I ask him, sexy time is in no way an option until we’re alone.
“I’m hungry, have you had lunch? I mean, if you’ve not eaten you must be starving, I know I am – you didn’t even go for dinner yesterday did you?” He suggests. Thank God I didn’t have a full lunch.
“Nope and I’m starving too.” I answer.
“Oh good. Know of anywhere nice to eat then?” Hmm...
“There’s a pub down the road and an Italian restaurant too.” I say.
“Perfect. We’ll go to the Italian.”
“Oh no, you will not.” Gerard’s dad shouts from the other room. Oh shit. I wonder why we can’t eat lunch out – was dancing with me that bad? I knew they’d hate me.
Gerard storms off; leaving me alone. What?! He must’ve gone to his dad about not letting us eat out.
Muffled sounds escape from the room where Gerard and his father are. It sounds like they’re shouting about... something being against something? A female voice interrupts the shouting match – Gerard’s mother.
The door swung open; it’s not Gerard as I expected – it’s Mikey. Before I had chance to question his, he ran over to me and hugged me. Not passionately or just because I’m with his brother; it was as if I needed consoling – like something terrible had happened and I needed cheering up.
“Mikey, what-“ I start, a thousand questions wanting to come out at once. He ran out before I could get a third word into my sentence.
Confused is the only word able to describe how I feel. I have no idea what has happened, what is happening or what will happen.
The shouting continues and I still have no idea what to do. The door opens again but this time it’s Gerard’s mother.
“Oh, honey, I’m sorry this has happened whilst you’re around.” She says, hugging me like Mikey just did. I really want to cry, the tears already prickling my eyeliner rimmed eyes; trying to hold them back with all of my might is just working.
“It’s fine.” I say. It’s not fine though, I’m really not okay.
“I mean, we had no idea... So I guess Gerard’s father was a little... shocked.” Shocked at what?
“Oh, okay. So what’s-“ Cut off again.
“Just hold on dear, they’ll stop soon so Gerard can come back to you and I’ll fix both of you some lunch before me and Donald take Mikey to get a uniform.” She says.
“That sounds nice.” I manage. I have no idea what to say. I just want Gerard back.
“He won’t leave you alone for long. He normally wouldn’t have left you but he seemed very angry at Donald. I personally don’t like getting involved in Donald’s and Gerard’s arguments.” They’ve had more than this one?
“Ah, okay. I’ll just wait for Gerard then...” I say. Gerard, hurry up!
Speak of the devil and he slams the door open looking panicked and frantic.
