INT. TUNNELS

Long passageways open up into other passageways and forgotten
rooms and vaults. There are frequent dead ends, and you can't
go everywhere, but it is amazing how far it spreads.

MITCH (V.O.)
We need to map out the area, find
out what resources we have, and
where we are most vulnerable.

Teams pair up, exploring and taking notes.

Cassie is paired with Don, and Grace tags along.

Jacob is exploring with Park and Latron.

Frank goes down one tunnel with Wren.

She stops and looks overhead.

WREN
I used to live up there. I could
head back up.

FRANK
Do you think that's a good idea?

WREN
Die down here, up there; what's the
difference?

FRANK
Maybe just the company you keep.

WREN
They don't necessarily know I was
there, or that I've been
fraternizing. I could be okay.

FRANK
Yeah.

WREN
Are you going to try and stop me?

FRANK
It's your choice. I'm going to keep
mapping this out though.

Frank starts moving forward, but turns to look at Wren.

FRANK (CONT'D)
I'll miss you.

WREN
Liar.

FRANK
I don't lie.

Frank moves forward.

After a moment, Wren hurries after him.

WREN
It's a dump up there too.

Mitch goes along with Jimmy. They are comparing notes on
military training.

MITCH
That's ridiculous! What about
practice?

JIMMY
We just never spent that much time
on it.

MITCH
Do you know how much time we spent
drilling before they even let us
out in the field?

JIMMY
We never did that.

MITCH
That just shows how little they
cared about any of you.

JIMMY
You're right, but the truth is, no
one else cared about me either. It
didn't seem to matter.

Mitch pauses.

MITCH
That won't be your problem here.
People care a lot, and I can too,
but I've got a lot of other people
I've cared about for longer, and if
I start to think you're a threat...

JIMMY
Is that why I'm paired up with you?

MITCH
I've got my eyes on you.

JIMMY
I understand sir.

There is a quiet moment of understanding between them, and
they resume walking.

JIMMY (CONT'D)
So how long did you serve?

MITCH
Well I joined fresh out of school.
It was all I ever wanted...

Jane and Gerard are mapping out the underground network.

GERARD
About two blocks and it goes right.

JANE
Look, it says Lancaster.

There is indeed writing on the wall that shows the street
name.

GERARD
Does that seem right?

JANE
Yeah. I used to come here all the
time. Wait a minute.

Jane starts going ahead, faster than Gerard can draw.

GERARD
Wait up!

JANE
I'm checking something.

Jane follows the twists and turns and pulls on a door at the
end of one corridor, finding herself in a basement.

Gerard catches up.

GERARD
What are you doing?

JANE
I just need to see.

Jane goes up a flight of stairs and tries the door.

INT. LIBRARY

It is much as Jane remembers, only dustier and more
forgotten.

Gerard has followed, but he does not like it.

GERARD
Let's get back below.

JANE
I guess.

There is a noise from the stacks.

Gerard starts to draw his gun, but Jane places her hand over
Gerard's, preventing it.

JANE (CONT'D)
Chuck?

Chuck emerges cautiously.

He looks at Jane with surprise, then seems to look through
her. Finally he speaks.

CHUCK
Did you finally bring back that
journal?

Now Jane laughs in delight.

JANE
No. I lost it ages ago.

Chuck shrugs.

CHUCK
Good thing it didn't matter.

INT. LIBRARY BASEMENT

Base camp is being set up here.

Don and Cassie come in carrying some boxes of food.

BECK
Where did you get those?

CASSIE
Around 82nd.

HARRY
There were a few different drop
spots that they were using.

DEANNA
So there could be more supplies at
different points?

HARRY
Probably. Has anyone been under the
Gregory building?

People look at each other and shrug.

HARRY (CONT'D)
That's where it happened. They were
bunking down there, so there may
still be supplies.

GERARD
Wouldn't they have cleaned it out?

HARRY
I don't know. Now that I think
about it, I'm afraid of what we'd
find.

JANE
Let's go.

Everyone looks at her in surprise.

MITCH
It could be the most dangerous
place for us.

JANE
I'm not saying we should all go,
but I need to see.

DEANNA
It's the middle of the night.

JACOB
That might be safer.

JANE
Just a quick check. We don't need
everyone.

Harry is leading the Frank, Gerard, Jane, Deanna, and Jacob
through the tunnels.

HARRY
We're getting closer. Let's be
extremely cautious.

There are nervous nods.

As they round a corner, it initially looks empty, and there
are sighs of relief.

As the flashlight moves around, however, things do come into
view. Blood spatters on the wall, and dried pools on the
floor.

Jane kneels down to inspect one corner more closely.

GERARD
What is it?

Jane shakes her head, unable to speak.

She stands up holding Natalia's medic bag.

DEANNA
It was stupid to come here. I'm
going back.

She leaves back the way they came, without a light.

Jacob hurries after her.

Jacob finds Deanna on the ground, having tripped. She is
crying, but it's not from the fall.

Jacob speaks almost apologetically.

JACOB
I brought a light. Can I help you?

Deanna turns to look at him, shaking her head.

DEANNA
Are you ever going to learn that
I'm not worth the trouble?

JACOB
No, I really don't think I am.

Jacob gives his hand to Deanna and they stand together.

DEANNA
(whispering)
Thank you.

Back under Gregory, Gerard has wrapped his arms around Jane.
They are looking at the bag.

FRANK
I guess we can use the supplies.

HARRY
There's nothing else for us here.
We should go.

JANE
What was that?

Everyone freezes. There is a sound of someone running away,
not from Jacob and Deanna's direction.

GERARD
Come on!

All four run in pursuit. They cannot be discovered.

As they turn the corner, there are several people, but so
small.

There are fifteen children, mostly between the ages of four
and six. There is also one adult, MICHELLE (20).

The child who was running is shaking Michelle awake. Her
drowsiness is quickly replaced by fear. She leaps to her feat
and tries to pull the scattered children in behind her.

MICHELLE
Please don't hurt us!

HARRY
We won't.

MICHELLE
You're not Scarecrow?

FRANK
Not even close.

JANE
It's all right. You're safe.

The other children began to wake up, and move around, looking
at the newcomers with a mixture of fear and curiosity. They
are quickly surrounded.

FRANK
When you said you saw me with a
bunch of by kids, was this it?

JANE
I don't think so.

Jane feels a tug on her hand.

SOPHIE
Jane.

Jane looks down and sees a blonde girl holding a bunny, a
little older than she remembers. She kneels down to get a
closer look.

JANE
Sophie?

SOPHIE
You took care of me when I was
sick.

Jane puts a protective arm around Sophie, but turns to
Michelle.

JANE
They're from the school? What's
going on?

MICHELLE
I was working there. Today we got
orders to kill them. I didn't know
what to do so we ran.

FRANK
They're killing little kids now?
You were supposed to kill them?

Harry shakes his head, gesturing at the children, but
Michelle shrugs hopelessly.

MICHELLE
They already know.

The adults look around at the children, wondering what is
next.

Together they troop back towards the library.

Mitch sees them approaching.

MITCH
Now what?

FRANK
You'll never believe it.

Grace sees children her own age, and looks with sparkling
eyes. It has been a long time.

INT. LIBRARY BASEMENT

Worried adults are discussing worrying things.

DEANNA
Okay, but really this is probably
the best place for them. We have a
huge supply of children's books
upstairs, and this is still the
most deserted part of the city.

MITCH
Even assuming that this will work,
and no one will hear and see the
children and come kill us all, how
are we even going to feed them?
We've barely been able to feed
ourselves.

Michelle approaches now. She has been quietly listening from
a distance.

MICHELLE
We're not your responsibility. You
don't have to worry about us.

Mitch smiles.

MITCH
And then what will you do?

MICHELLE
I don't know, but-

MITCH
No, if we were the kind of people
who could throw a bunch of children
to the wolves we'd have done it
already.

FRANK
Can't we get them out of the city?
Load them up in a van and take
them...

He has no suggestion for where to take them.

DEANNA
Exactly, there isn't anywhere. And
it would take two vans, so two
adults to drive them.

CASSIE
And two adults isn't very many to
watch and protect fifteen kids.
Plus, what about Grace?

They look over. Grace and Sophie are giggling with another
girl, ALICIA (6) over books.

Actually, all of the children seem very happy now. Jimmy is
reading to some others, and other adults are playing and
talking too. Even Chuck watches from the top of the
staircase, not participating, but not expressing annoyance.

It would be magical if they weren't all marked for death.

DON
It's true. If the city is too
dangerous for them, it's too
dangerous for her.

CASSIE
It's not safe for any of us. We're
here because we have nowhere else
to go.

DEANNA
I guess that's the point.

MITCH
The point is that we can't keep
this up.

FRANK
Have we ever seriously considered
taking off for Mexico?

CASSIE
Yes. We were pretty sure we'd run
out of fuel before we could get
there, and then die of starvation
and exposure before arriving on
foot. Plus we don't know what's
down there.

Gerard has been quietly mulling.

GERARD
Maybe we need to go on the
offensive, instead of just trying
to defend.

DEANNA
Well that's great except for the
insurmountable odds.

GERARD
But are they?

JANE
There are a lot more of them.

FRANK
But we're better shots.

GERARD
Also, there are more Draculoids,
but Blind is kind of gone. Who's in
charge now anyway?

HARRY
I guess it's the mayor.

GERARD
And he wants us all dead?

MICHELLE
It's the embarrassment.

MITCH
What do you mean?

MICHELLE
The governor is coming to visit
next week. The school was a loose
end.

JANE
Because it happened under Blind
control?

GERARD
It wasn't just Battery City that
did that.

HARRY
No, but this was their
headquarters, and the school was a
pet project of Liu.

GERARD
So, with the governor coming now,
is this an opportunity?

JANE
Maybe. I wonder...

GERARD
What?

JANE
I know there are a lot of people
who are ruthless, and a lot of
people who are apathetic, but I
don't think there are that many
people who are comfortable with
child murder.

FRANK
If they knew, maybe we could
reverse the numbers.

GERARD
They put those video panels in
every single home in Greenvale.

MICHELLE
Here too.

DON
And we have people who know
telecom, and computers, and we have
one master hacker.

JANE
We may have several. Michelle, what
powers do the kids have?

JACOB
We're going to use the kids?

It doesn't sound right, but Michelle is fiery now.

MICHELLE
Why not? If we all die, they will
too. Let them have a chance.

They begin to plan and prepare.

Frank, Gerard, and Mitch study diagrams, with Jimmy pointing
out spots he remembers.

Park has a gun drawn and Sophie causes it to fly to her.

Michelle quickly corrects her.

MICHELLE (CONT'D)
Get it to point away from you!

They try it again, and this time it works better.

Other telekinetic children are lined up behind her to
practice.

Don, Rogers, and Grace are going over network schematics.

Jane and Deanna are going over Natalia's medic kit,
practicing and demonstrating on Beck. Wren looks on,
interested.

Night.

Most of the crew has dropped off to sleep, but Frank, Gerard,
and Mitch are still talking.

Jane comes over to see.

JANE
How's it going?

GERARD
We almost have a complete plan.
There's just one problem.

FRANK
Yeah, trying to look like
upstanding citizens who should be
welcomed back into society while
trying not to be killed by Dracs.

JANE
That is a problem.

FRANK
I wish the mayor would decide
they're an embarrassment.

MITCH
He might, but probably not soon
enough.

Jane thinks for a moment.

JANE
Do you remember The Dark Knight
Rises?

FRANK
That was awesome.

GERARD
It was the last video we watched
before winter break.

MITCH
I don't watch movies based on comic
books.

GERARD
You're missing out.

MITCH
My wife dragged me to this
Fantastic Four movie; it was the
stupidest thing I'd ever seen.

GERARD
That is not a fair test.

FRANK
Guys? Focus.
(to Jane)
I assume you mean the way they
trapped the police underground.

JANE
We have tunnels. We have
explosives.

GERARD
We'd have to find good locations in
the right areas.

FRANK
Since we're not planning on
destroying the city.

GERARD
Still, it could work.

MITCH
Back at this tomorrow?

GERARD
Yeah. Good night.

They separate and drift off to sleep.

Still later, Frank wakes up. There is a sound, almost
imperceptible.

Frank gets up quietly, and tries to find the source.

Going a little outside the room and around the corner, Frank
finds Michelle crying.

Michelle sees Frank, and wipes her eyes, embarrassed.

MICHELLE
I'm sorry. Did I wake you?

FRANK
I'm kind of a light sleeper lately.
Are you all right?

MICHELLE
Yes.

While she says "yes", Michelle is shaking her head "no".

Frank sits down next to her.

FRANK
It must have been hard getting all
the children away. It's a big
responsibility.

MICHELLE
I was scared, but we made it okay.
It was what happened before. I had
to kill her.

FRANK
Who?

MICHELLE
My boss. She got the orders and
told me. She was preparing the
poison. It was all going so fast,
and I didn't know what to do, so I
took the hammer and crushed her
skull.

Michelle buries her face in her arms, tucked around her
knees. If she could fold up enough to disappear, she would.

FRANK
You did it for the kids.

MICHELLE
I know, but I keep thinking there
must have been another way. I'm a
killer. How did that even happen?

FRANK
It's not your fault.

MICHELLE
Then why do I feel like this?

Frank puts his arm around her.

FRANK
I don't know why it works that way.
Maybe the real problem is when you
stop feeling it.

Michelle looks up now.

MICHELLE
Have you?

FRANK
I've tried.

Mainly, he just lets her cry.

INT. TUNNELS

Charges are being set, and everything is prepared. Do or die,
it happens the next day.

INT. LIBRARY

Gerard is looking around the main floor and finds Latron
staring at a World War II memorial plaque.

Latron is tracing the names with his finger.

LATRON
He has the same last name as Otis.
I wonder if they were related.

GERARD
Maybe.

LATRON
No one's ever going to remember any
of us.

GERARD
We just need our own memorial.

LATRON
Get real.

Gerard looks around, and notices a long white wall behind the
front desk.

GERARD
We'll put it there.

LATRON
Serious?

GERARD
Why not? I saw some paint
downstairs.

Gerard hustles off and returns with a box containing several
rags and cans of spray paint.

LATRON
Cool.

GERARD
We'll tag it, for everyone we've
lost.

Gerard holds out a can to Latron.

Latron hesitates, but shakes the can and sprays it up there.
"Pops".

LATRON
Should I have done his real name?

GERARD
Do both. There's plenty of room.

LATRON
Yeah.

Latron gets back to work, and Gerard grabs his own can.
"Mikey".

Others begin to gather around, joining in and filling out the
space. Ray. Natalia. Cathy. Jenny. Luis. Lastri. Philip
Johnson. Blake. Christian. Tony. Eddie. Chuy. Rosalie. Harold
and Angela Wilson. Dr. Death Defying. Grandpa. Mom. Dad.

Sophie comes up and tugs on Jane's skirt.

SOPHIE
I want to write my Mom, but I don't
know her name.

JANE
Let me think. Sophie Verden. Mrs.
Verden.

There is a pause, and Sophie looks disappointed.

SOPHIE
It's okay.

JANE
(smiling)
It was Tonja. It took me a while,
but I remember.

SOPHIE
Will you help me?

JANE
Of course.

Chuck comes up behind Jane as they finish.

CHUCK
You still insist on remembering
everything.

JANE
At least I'm consistent.

Chuck looks at the wall thoughtfully, takes a can of red
paint, and writes "Eve" in one corner, then quietly walks
away.

Later the wall is a blaze of color, and everyone is gathered
around in little clusters, somewhat paint-stained, talking
quietly and remembering.

GERARD
I should have known about Jenny.

FRANK
Mikey never talked about her. I
only know because I saw it.

LATRON
She was twelve years older than me,
and she was always looking out for
me.

MICHELLE
I never knew what happened. He just
disappeared one day.

MITCH
I truly believe she saved my soul.
If I had killed him, I don't know
that there would have been any
coming back from that.

DON
We actually met at a library. I was
supposed to be researching, but
once I saw her I couldn't think
about anything else.

Later still, most of the group, especially the younger ones,
have fallen asleep.

Frank is sitting against the wall, surrounded by small
children. It does not look comfortable, but he and they are
resting peacefully.

Gerard and Don are talking quietly, with Grace nestled
between them.

Jane is against a different wall when Sophie approaches her.

SOPHIE
I'm glad you remembered my mom. She
said you were the nicest one there.

JANE
I thought she was nice too. I was
sorry to hear that she died.

SOPHIE
Are we going to die tomorrow?

Jane pauses, deciding how honest to be.

JANE
We might.

SOPHIE
Are you scared?

Gerard has come over now, and eases down on Jane's other
side, listening.

JANE
Sometimes, but usually I feel like
it's okay. Sophie, I'm really happy
that I got to see you again.

SOPHIE
She said you were going to come
stay with me.

JANE
I was, but then something happened
and I had to run away.

SOPHIE
Like we did from the school?

JANE
A lot like that. You know that
she's dead now?

SOPHIE
Yes, and the bad man is too, but
there are others.

JANE
There are a lot of good people too.
I couldn't come take care of you,
but then Michelle came, and she
made sure you all stayed safe. What
we're doing tomorrow is dangerous,
but we're hoping it will make
things better, so we're going to
try.

SOPHIE
I'll try too.

JANE
I know. You're a good girl. Can you
sleep now?

SOPHIE
Yes.

Sophie snuggles in next to Jane, and Jane watches her fall
asleep.

In the quiet, Gerard puts his arm around Jane and kisses her
hair.

GERARD
You're good at this.

Jane tilts her head at Frank.

JANE
Not as good as some people. How's
your wrist?

GERARD
It's great. Didn't you see me spray
painting out there?

JANE
It's good what you did there. They
needed this.

GERARD
Is there anything you want or need?
Anything at all?

JANE
Just you.

GERARD
Are you sure? I thought you might
be wondering about my views on
adoption.

Jane turns and looks at Gerard in surprise.

GERARD (CONT'D)
I'm not against it. If it comes up.

Jane takes Gerard's hand and kisses it.

They lie together, Gerard's arm around Jane, and Jane's arm
around Sophie, still holding the rabbit. It's not a bad
moment.

INT. BENEATH BATTERY CITY

Jimmy and Mitch are sneaking around the main Draculoid
barracks. They suddenly sound an alarm, allow a visual to be
established, and take off running, leading into the tunnels.

At the Fact News Station control room, Gerard and Jane do the
same.

As most of the force follows them, Don, Rogers, Park, and
Latron subdue and bind the remaining guards.

Don, Rogers, and Grace go to the mainframe, while Park and
Latron stand guard.

At station's studio, Frank and Wren set up another diversion.

Following close behind, Harry, Jacob, Deanna, and Cassie
secure the location as Michelle ushers in the children.

DON
And establishing communication with
the studio. Can you hear me?

CASSIE
Yes. We're in.

DON
Working on accessing the panel
network.

CASSIE
Let us know when you're in. We're
ready.

Mitch and Jimmy are running, and losing ground. They duck
around one corner and hit a detonator.

The tunnels rattle as the charges go off, but only the
correct wall goes down, trapping this troop of Draculoids.

Inside the control room, Grace has found what she's looking
for.

GRACE
I've got it!

ROGERS
Good girl!

Don checks the link and makes some adjustments.

Cassie takes over the camera.

DON
We're in.

CASSIE
Live in 3-2-1.

Images from inside the studio appear on every panel Blind
ever installed.

HARRY
Citizens of Battery City,
Greenvale, and Hayward, we call on
you today to ask for our lives.

The camera pans over the children.

In Greenvale, Bob sees.

BOB
Karen!

Karen hurries to his side and they watch stunned.

HARRY
Over the past six years, we have
been under an increasing
stranglehold placed by Blind. Many
of you watching have had loved ones
die or disappear. I have seen the
deaths of some of the finest people
I know. We need to look at why.

Wren and Frank are running for their lives.

They pass Jimmy and Mitch in another corridor and give the
thumbs up.

There is another explosion.

Jacob takes the center.

Watching at home, Hillard turns pale.

JACOB
As a trained pathologist I searched
for a cure when people were dying
of the worst outbreak of flu I had
ever seen. At the same time that
new diseases were breaking out, I
discovered that this flu had been a
test version, created in a lab and
then released into the public.
Trying to find a cause for that,
trying to make it right, got me
marked for death. I was only able
to escape through the courage of
others.

Jane and Gerard are running too. They hear one set of
explosions. They only need one more. Reaching the correct
stopping point, they detonate the charges. It is only
partially successful.

HARRY
We know that Blind's answer-Liu's
answer-to any problem was killing,
and that excess is exactly what led
to her own death and the
dismantling of Blind. Why are we
here then? For them.

Harry gestures at the children.

There is a large gap in Jane and Gerard's wall, and the Dracs
are getting closer.

GERARD
Quick! Grab the spares!

Jane pulls two extra charges out of her backpack and Gerard
sets them up near the hole.

They try again and there is a large blast. Too large. The
extra charges seem to have revived the duds.

MICHELLE
One of Liu's pet projects was
taking gifted children in the hope
of harnessing their talents. They
have been orphaned, and were
regarded only as tools, but they
were at least able to live until a
few days ago, when Mayor Adams
ordered their death.

The gap is now blocked by debris, but the passageway out is
blocked as well. Jane and Gerard are unhurt, but there is no
exit.

Water is now pouring into the chamber.

GERARD
We must have burst a water main.
Any chance that would be shut off
quickly?

JANE
I don't think we should rely on
government efficiency right now.

HARRY
We can be ashamed of the way we
have been manipulated, but we must
not cover it up, or the killings
will not end. We need openness to
heal. We need a value for all life,
and we need a commitment to the
future where we will not consider
death an easy path to political
power. Especially not their deaths.

Cassie focuses on the children again.

In his hotel room, the GOVERNOR is watching.

GOVERNOR
We need to get to that studio.

Back in their section, Gerard and Jane try digging through
the rubble, but it only brings more debris down. They try
feeling around the walls for any openings or weaknesses.

The water is taking over the space surprisingly quickly.

GERARD
Nothing.

JANE
Try the radio.

Gerard tries.

GERARD
Frank? Anyone out there? We've hit
a snag.

There is no response.

Gerard and Jane look at each other.

JANE
It's not so bad.

Gerard smiles and takes Jane in his arms.

GERARD
No. It's not.

The water continues to pour in.

JANE
I'm really fine with this, but once
it gets closer, I might panic a
little.

GERARD
I'll try not to take it personally.

JANE
Good.

The water is above their knees now.

GERARD
It sounded like it was going okay
before this, though, don't you
think?

JANE
It did. I really think this can
work out.

As the water approaches waist level, there is a crackle of
static on the radio.

FRANK
Where are you guys?

Gerard grabs the radio.

GERARD
Frank! We're trapped under Davis.
There's water coming in.

There is a pause.

FRANK
What do you need me to do?

GERARD
The south wall would be the best
bet. If you can open that up-

FRANK
I'm on my way.

JANE
Frank, the water's already pretty
high. It's okay if-

FRANK
Don't say that! I'm on the way.

GERARD
Okay. Let me know if you have any
questions.

The water continues to rise. It is at their chests.

JANE
Gee?

GERARD
I'm here.

JANE
Thank you for...I don't know...for
seeing me that day. It would have
been so easy for us to miss each
other.

GERARD
Are you sure I did you a favor
there?

JANE
Positive.

GERARD
Good. I think it's the smartest
thing I ever did.

They cling a little more tightly.

GERARD (CONT'D)
I guess...thank you for everything.

JANE
You're welcome.

GERARD
Why are we being so polite now?

Jane shakes her head laughing.

JANE
I don't know. Do you want to swear
instead?

Now Gerard laughs.

GERARD
A little.

But he doesn't.

The water is now at their necks. They are slowing down. Jane
sounds sleepy when she speaks.

JANE
It's so cold. Maybe I won't panic
after all.

The radio drops from Gerard's hand and sinks below the
surface.

On the other side of the wall, Frank rushes is.

FRANK
Guys! I'm here! I just need another
minute.

Frank feverishly sets the charges on his side.

Inside, the water is just above their chins.

GERARD
Jane?

JANE
Yes?

GERARD
Don't get too far ahead of me,
okay? Don't leave me behind.

JANE
I won't.

GERARD
I need to be able to find you.

Their lips meet again one more time above the water.

Frank has finished setting the charges.

FRANK
Move away from the wall! It's going
to blow.

Frank dashes around the corner to detonate.

There is an explosion and water floods out the new opening.

Frank is knocked off balance by the initial flow.

Subsequent waves make him slip as he desperately tries to get
up, but at last the pent up water is out, leaving just the
continuing stream and scattered pools behind.

Frank makes his way to the hole and looks in.

FRANK (CONT'D)
Guys? Gee?

EXT. HILLTOP WITH TREE

It vaguely resembles the tree from the college campus, but
the colors are odd and the light is dim. There are no
buildings or anything else in view.

Jane is lying stretched out on the ground. Her clothes are
clean and dry.

Jane slowly gets up, looking around.

As she stands, Jane makes out an approaching form shrouded by
mist. As it comes closer, Jane smiles joyfully and throws her
arms around him.

JANE
Ray! You're-

Jane pulls back a little confused.

JANE (CONT'D)
No, you're not. So that means
I'm...Poor Frank.

Ray has patiently let Jane piece things together, but now he
holds her and speaks.

RAY
Yeah, this one is going to sting
for a while, but Frank is going to
be terrific, I promise. How are
you?

Jane looks thoughtful.

JANE
It doesn't seem so bad, I guess. I
just thought...Did Gee make it
then?

Ray smiles and turns Jane in another direction.

As Jane looks where Ray is pointing, she smiles with teary
eyes and puts her hand over her heart.

Gerard and Mikey are hugging.

The tree seems to have shifted to behind the brothers. It is
brighter now, and the field of vision extends farther, though
still not very far.

RAY
Come on.

Seemingly without effort, all four are together.

JANE
I don't think I've ever seen you
two hug before.

MIKEY
First time for everything.

Mikey embraces Jane, and Gerard and Ray hug as well.

JANE
I've missed you. Both. We both
missed both of you.

MIKEY
We know.

There are more hugs, and it becomes still brighter.

Gerard pulls reaches for Jane's hand and pulls her close.

JANE
I was afraid I'd broken my promise.

GERARD
I wouldn't have let you.

JANE
Is it wrong that I'm glad you're
here?

Gerard shakes his head and they hug tightly. There will be no
more separations.

RAY
Those crazy kids finally got it
together.

MIKEY
Took long enough.

They loosen a little, and Gerard turns smiling back to Ray.

GERARD
About that, did you forget to tell
us anything important last time?

JANE
Yeah, where is Nat?

GERARD
Where's everyone? Not to be
ungrateful, but..

A familiar voice comes up from behind Gerard.

CATHY
We start out slow so you don't get
overwhelmed.

Gerard spins around to see his sister, and reaches for her.

GERARD
Cath!

They hug too, and pull back with bright eyes.

CATHY
Thank you for taking care of Grace.

GERARD
She's been like my own.

CATHY
I know.
(turning to Jane)
I have always felt badly about
having him come home that year.

JANE
It's really okay.

CATHY
I'm looking forward to spending
more time with you, but I think
there are probably some other
people you want to see first.

Cathy gestures into the distance.

It is like there is a veil hiding several forms, familiar
ones, and it is starting to fade with the figures becoming
more clear.

Jane clears her throat and takes Gerard's hand.

JANE
Hey, are you ready to finally meet
my parents?

GERARD
Yes. And to see mine again.

The light becomes blinding to us, but for them everything can
be seen.

EXT. BATTERY CITY, OUTSIDE OF LIBRARY

The survivors stand in a circle with heads bowed. It is one
more grave.

Don is standing with Grace, next to Latron.

On Latron's right side is Frank, with his right arm around
Sophie. Michelle, Mitch, Chuck, and the others fill out the
circle. Harry is getting ready to speak.

A focus on Frank's right hand reveals some traces of blue
paint.

A cut to the mural shows one addition. In blue there is a G
and a J joined back to back, kind of resembling an anchor.

Back in the circle Frank looks up and over his shoulder for a
moment. He turns back in and draws Sophie closer on one side,
and puts his other hand on Latron's shoulder, drawing him
close as well.

Franks nods, facing the future.

Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower;
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind;
In the primal sympathy
Which having been must ever be;
