In all honesty, i've been writing a Beauty and the Beast retelling and i dont know if any one will read it. Not because it's not good, but because it's not like other stories. point A: Sexuality. In my story, beauty and the beast are girls and therefore lesbians. But why NOT write about lesbians? Most people wont read a book that has them but i'm writing it anyone because i'm tired of seeing the same old romance stories. Why not have a story with LGBT in it? Any story like that is immediately unique to me because not alot of people want to read or write about those kinds of things. Or it'll just be an erotica story. So i'm writing a romance (ofc) and putting a nice spin on Beauty and the Beast (in my opinion).
Point B: Interracial characters. "The Beast" in the story is black, and "Beauty" is asian. specifically vietnamese. Most people are used to reading stories with all or mostly white characters. So i guess a not only lesbianized story but an interracial story would throw people off.
