I got to Gabe's and knocked on the door impatiently. I wanted to be hidden from any possible paparazzi. I honestly don't know how it got out! Pete and I have been really quiet about it and we acted just fine in public, as always.
"Hey, what's going on?" Gabe said as he let me into his place.
"I was just surrounded by paparazzi at my apartment. Apparently someone let it leak that Pete and I were getting divorced," I walked in and sunk into his couch, covering my face with my scarf.
"You guy are getting divorced?" Gabe asked me, shock apparent in his tone.
"Well, possibly. I don't know. We're separated right now."
"Well, I wouldn't say anything. Erin knows better. Of course everyone else on tour would keep quiet. Our group is really good about keeping it quiet."
"Oh my god. It must be Meagan! Pete told her that nothing would ever happen. I wonder if she was mad enough to go to the tabloids about it!" I sat up and glanced around the room. "Can I see your laptop?" I asked and Gabe got up and returned with his Mac. He handed it to me and sat right next to me on the couch, our sides touching lightly. I searched 'pete wentz divorce' and about a dozen articles popped up. I clicked on the first link and scanned the article.
"An insider on the tour?" Gabe looked at me.
"Has to be her. She was on tour for a couple of weeks." I kept skimming. The article makes me out to be a horrible person. It has to be her. "As if I needed a reason for fans to hate me more than just simply being Pete's wife." I shook my head.
"The fans don't hate you Kiley. They think you're beautiful." Gabe said and I rolled my eyes. Yes, most fans were sweet in their comments on Pete's Instagram posts.
"Well this will change their minds. I am not abusive and I am definitely not controlling!" I was getting angrier and angrier by the second as I scrolled through the article. Gabe could tell and snatched up the laptop, closing the lid.
"Enough of that trash. Does Pete know?" Gabe asked me and I shook my head.
"We've only spoken twice through text this week," I admitted sadly. Gabe wrapped his long arms around my shoulders and gave me a gentle squeeze.
"You should probably give him a heads up." Gabe advised and I nodded. He was right, Pete does need a heads up. I wished I had been given one. I pulled my cell phone out of my purse and typed a message.
Kiley: someone told the press we were getting a divorce. claiming it was an informant from the tour. i'm thinking meagan?
"We'll see what he says," I stated and put my phone on the coffee table.
"Do you want something to drink or eat?" Gabe asked me and I suddenly felt very hungry.
"Yes! Anytime I see or hear anything about food, I'm starving!"
"Ahh... pregnancy," Gabe teased, laughing as he pulled me up from the couch and led me into the kitchen. "Feeling like having healthy food or junk?"
"Healthy, I've been eating too much junk lately." I admitted. Gabe pulled a half eaten veggie platter out of his fridge. Gabe and I began stuffing our faces. My phone began to ring and I walked back to the couch to get it. It was Pete.
"Hey," I said in a gentle tone as I walked back into the kitchen.
"Hey, I just saw your text. What's going on?" Pete seemed a mixture of worried and confused.
"Well, I came home and found paparazzi outside the building and they chased me down the street, asking about us getting divorced. I eventually hailed a cab and got out of there."
"Where are you now?" Pete asked.
"Gabe's. He told me to come over if I needed anything." I said, not feeling awkward about it at all. Pete had gotten over any feelings of jealousy and suspicion about Gabe and I years and years ago. He knew there was nothing to worry about.
"I'm glad you're safe," he said, seeming somewhat relieved. "Why do you think Meagan outed us?"
"Well it said an informant on the tour. No one else would have known. We've only told the people close to us that we were separated and they wouldn't tell. She's the only one and you said you ended things with her, right?" I asked him, confirming what he had already said.
"Of course I ended it. I did it the night before I went to New York." Pete sounded frustrated.
"Well, have you talked to her since?"
"Once." At least he was honest.
"Why?"
"She called me and I answered. She wanted to apologize."
"Well she's obviously had second thoughts. Oh, and the articles all make me seem like a controlling, abusive bitch. I'm really not happy about it." I stated and popped a cherry tomato in my mouth. Gabe was chowing down, just listening to my conversation.
"What? Well, then I do think it's her. You did threaten to put her in the hospital." Pete reminded me and I kinda smirked at that. God, I would love to do that now.
"I just think it's funny that she didn't even mention the pregnancy."
"That's because I didn't tell her." Pete replied and I was honestly shocked. Well, good thing then.
"Explains why that's still a secret. Only people who know about us separating are the same people who know about the baby, except her."
"I wanna fucking kill her," he mumbled and it made me happy. I'm so glad she ruined her chance with Pete. That was one thing you didn't do, betray Pete's trust. She had, now she was dead to him.
"Well, I just wanted to give you a heads up," I said, not really sure what else to say.
"Yeah, I've got to go. It's really late." Pete said. I forgot that it was roughly 5 hours later there.
"Okay, well have a good show tomorrow."
"I'll try," Pete said with a sigh. "I love you, Kiley." His voice was soft and comforting in that moment. It made my heart ache because even though we loved each other, it fixed nothing.
"I love you, too," I said back in a quiet voice. The words physically hurt me.
"Night," Pete said and I said it back before hanging up.
"You okay?" Gabe asked me, the pain evident on my face.
"I don't think this can be fixed," I said, looking up into Gabe's eyes and wishing he could take away the pain.
