One thing I've noticed is that often the story gets very dry.
To prevent this follow this.
- Add lots of twists and turns and never draw a chapter out.
- If the book starts to get a little dry always act on your reviews.
- Never act on just the reviews you like and always welcome flames.
- Never down advice: Sometimes people are more experienced and they know what the audience like.
- Try to be original: Too much of the same thing is never good.
- Try to get a BETA (I'm in search of one now.)
- Use the widest range of vocabulary you have: repeating 'and' or 'next' can get very dull.

Follow these steps and I'm sure that you may be able to improve.
