Thanks to those who have reviewed! I appreciate the feedback! Sorry it's short, but enjoy!
I sipped my coffee while I watched TV. Pete walked into the living room around 11 am. He was shirtless... oh my.
"There's uh, coffee in the kitchen," I distractedly told him. He just nodded, obviously still groggy, and headed into the kitchen. He returned a minute later with coffee and sat on the couch right next to me. It took some serious self-control not to stare at his exposed skin.
"What should we work on today?" He asked. Ugh! I didn't feel like doing a damn thing. Well, I had a few errands to run, but I didn't want to work on that list.
"Nothing. I don't want to do anything on that list today," I commented. "I've got some errands to run."
"I'll go with you," he said, a little too eager. Something seemed off.
"You okay?" I looked at Pete and the look in his eyes said it all. Something was up.
"Sure, yeah."
"Why do you want to go with me to run errands? I mean, you could just sleep or do something that's actually fun."
"I can't sleep, and I don't want to be alone," Pete admitted softly, staring down at the coffee cup on his lap. Oh.
"Pete... I know we don't know each other that well, but... what happened? You said you had a breakup recently, is it that?" I turned more towards Pete so I can actually see his face. He just nodded. "What happened?"
"Uh," Pete's eyes met mine and I could see pain. "Well, she told me that she just didn't love me anymore. Out of nowhere." Ouch! That would hurt!
"I'm sorry," I replied softly. "I know you said you wanted to help me to distract yourself, but I didn't think it was this bad." He couldn't even stand to be alone out of fear of doing something stupid. That's a bad breakup.
"I've just made horrible decisions after breakups in the past, I don't want to repeat that." He looked back down at his coffee cup.
"I won't let you," I promised him. His eyes met mine again and I could see the pain ease, just slightly. I leaned over and wrapped my arms around his neck, hugging him. Wow, he smelled amazing. Pete wrapped one arm around me tightly, the other still holding his coffee. We hugged for close to a minute before I pulled away. "Shall we go to the post office?" I asked and he smirked.
