The Lengths:
-Greg-
I love quiet nights like this. Morgan and I are around tonight. She cuddled up close to me on the couch. I ran my fingers through her hair. She looked up at me.
“I love you,” she said.
“I love you too,” I said back.
“How has school been?”
“Good. How’s work?”
I nodded as I shrugged my shoulders. “It’s so, so.”
“So, so?”
“It’s hard to say, really. I think we all lost our way.”
“Why do you think that?”
I only shrugged my shoulders. “I just feels that way.”
She rested her head on my chest. “My sister wants to be a mom.”
“Does she?” I asked. Morgan nodded.
“Yep.”
“How is Katherine taking this?”
“She was a little upset about this.”
I gave her a strange look. “I thought she accepted that Judy was gay now.”
“She has. Just wasn’t ready for gay parenting at first.”
“And now?”
Morgan shrugged her shoulders. “She’s adjusting to it. Slowly, but surely she’s getting used to it.”
“And you?”
She shrugged her shoulders. “Doesn’t really matter to me.”
“But you’re going to be an aunt.”
“Yes. And?”
She did have a point. Everyone around me seemed to be having babies lately. I just had to ask the question.
“Morgan,” I said.
“Yeah?” she asked, looking up at me.
“Do you want to have kids?”
She wrinkled her nose at me. “No!”
I gave her a confused look. “But, I thought…”
“I’m still in school. Can I at least graduate first?” she asked.
“Fair enough,” I said. We didn’t talk anymore for the rest of the night.
