Chapter 3
~three weeks later~
A loud pounding woke Harry and Violet up. Aunt Petunia's voice cracked through the air, "Up, get up." Then she pounded on the door again.
"Were coming Aunt Petunia." Harry said while Violet leaped out of bed and started to get dressed. Harry got out and grabbed Violet and whispered, "Good morning Violet."
"Good morning Harry." Violet whispered back.
Harry grabbed his clothes and got dressed. Then he and Violet went to the kitchen. Violet started setting the table and Harry started making breakfast in silence. From experience they knew that it was best to get breakfast done as quickly and as quietly as possible. A few minutes into making breakfast, Harry realized that his senses had increased since the ritual or maybe because of the ritual. Now he could smell what had previously been cooked on the pan, which wasn't too hard to figure out being that there was only about 3 things cooked on that pan. He could feel the heat better, but it didn't cause any pain.
He decided to test his new discovery. He picked up the hot pan and placed his other hand on the bottom for just a second. There wasn't any pain! Just mild discomfort, like if you put your hand into very warm water, but not hot. He tried again and this time put his hand on longer. A few moments later he jerked his hand away. Looks like he just had increased resistance, not immunity to heat. He put down the pan and placed the bacon strips on it. While he did that he put some bread into the toaster. Then he got another pan out and started cooking eggs.
When the food was finished cooking, he set the food on the table and then he called to Aunt Petunia that breakfast was ready. Aunt Petunia came in, gave Harry and Violet their portion and shoved them into the cupboard.
As soon as the door closed Harry gave a sigh of relief. Then he turned to Violet and said, "Guess what!"
Violet looked at him amused, "What?"
Harry went on excitedly, "That ritual we performed increased our senses! I was making breakfast and I could smell that eggs, bacon and sausage were cooked on the pan. I could also smell the bread in the bottom of the toaster burning even from across the room!"
Violet nodded excitedly, "I could smell that too! And my vision has improved! Before I could only see about halfway across the kitchen before everything got blurry, but now I can see from the kitchen to the front door and see a fly land on the doorknob!"
Harry was vibrating with excitement, "With this book, we can better ourselves until we can take care of ourselves and get back at Uncle," he spat out the word like it was a disease, "Vernon and Aunt Petunia and Dudley."
With that he practically teleported to the back of the cupboard and grabbed the Book from its hiding spot. Then he and Violet pored over The Book to find what rituals they wanted to do and in what order.
Violet humphed, "I want to do the Cold Resistance before the Heat Resistance!"
Harry countered back, "But I wanted to do the Minimum Requirement Ritual before the Maximum Digestion Ritual, you got your way that time so I get my way this time."
They bantered for a little bit then they heard Uncle Vernon yell, "Boy, get in here now!"
Harry hugged Violet and muttered a sardonic, "Wish me luck," then went to the living room where Uncle Vernon was sitting watching TV.
"Boy. We, that is, your Aunt, Dudley and I, are going to go on vacation for a month. There is food in the fridge and pantry and I expect you to do all the chores every day. When we get back this house must be spotless. Mrs. Figg is checking on you occasionally. Do you understand boy?"
Harry had a completely neutral face, and said in a monotone, "Yes, Uncle Vernon."
Vernon looked at Harry intently, "All right Boy, back in your cupboard and don't come out until we leave."
Harry replied in the same tone, "Yes, Uncle Vernon."
Harry walked back to the cupboard and went in. Violet was on the bed, reading The Book. She looked up and asked, "What did the fat lard want?"
Harry sat on the bed next to Violet, a mischievous gleam in his eye, "The Dursleys are going on vacation!"
Violet froze for a moment, processing what Harry had said, then squealed and hugged him. Harry smiled and hugged her back. "We can't start until they leave."
Violet bounced up and down on the bed, "That's okay, I can finish looking at these rituals."
Violet grabbed The Book and turned to the first ritual they were doing. It was a simple ritual; it increased the absorption of nutrients in the stomach and small intestine to 100%. Because of their meager food consumption, this was a ritual they needed to do as soon as possible to get to full health.
Half an hour later, Harry finally heard the car drive off. He yanked the cupboard door open and started dancing around the hall laughing his head off singing, "They're gone, were free, hooray for me!" Violet smiled at his antics. She went out and danced with him.
Eventually they calmed down and got to work. Violet started doing the chores that Vernon had "requested" they do. She decided that since Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia's room and Dudley's room would not be used, that she would clean those up now and they wouldn't have to do more than dust for the rest of the month. Meanwhile Harry got out the book and turned to the Maximum Digestion Ritual and started to look at the steps they needed to take and the runes they needed to draw.
"This ritual is designed to increase the absorption of nutrients to maximum. If there is any nutrients in any form that enter the stomach, they will be extracted and added to the blood stream. Be warned, this does nothing to how your body handles the nutrients, consuming too much will have the same effect as it did before."
"To perform the ritual you need blood, any will do, and draw these runes on the navel, chest and throat. Then when the runes are drawn, recite these words, Cibus effusio est maxime auget, three times. Advice: you should probably be sitting or laying down, this will not be the most pleasant sensation."
Harry looked at the diagram of a person and the runes that needed to be drawn and where. It looked pretty hard, so Harry decided they needed to practice drawing a few times before they would perform it. Wondering what he could use as a substitute until he did it for real, he wandered through the house looking for something to work. As he was walking in the kitchen, he glanced out the window and noticed that it was raining gently. He paused and looked out at the rain, he always did love a good rain. Then he noticed that the dirt patch in the backyard was turning to mud. That dirt patch was eventual at some point going to be a sand pit, but for now, it was just dirt. Than Harry had an idea. An awful idea. He had a wonderful awful idea.
Harry called out, "Violet, I'll be outside for a second!"
Her distracted call of, "Okay!" floated down the stairs as Harry took the backdoor outside and ran over to the patch of mud. He stuck his finger in the mud and pulled it out. A glob of mud hung to the edge of his finger. Smiling, Harry lifted his shirt and drew a passable copy of the rune supposed to go on his navel. His smile grew larger as he realized that they had a perfect tool to practice drawing the runes.
Wiping off the mud from his stomach, Harry walked into the house and up the stairs to their Aunt and Uncle's room where Violet was straightening everything and dusting everything off. Harry looked around the spotless room and the professionally done bed and commented, "Good job Violet, looks great."
Violet flushed slightly at the praise she almost never got, "Thanks, I just need to vacuum the floors and we can close the door and never walk in their again till the day before they get home."
Harry nodded, "I'll get started on Dudley's room then." Then he turned around and went into Dudley's room. To be frank it was a complete mess. Toys littered the floor and Harry was pretty sure Dudley was using his blankets as sheets and the sheets as blankets. The first thing he did was to put Dudley's cloths and sheets and blankets in the wash. Then with a sigh, Harry began to pick up everything and start putting the toys into piles, broken, plastic, and electronic. It took an hour to sort everything and the broken pile was the largest.
While he was cleaning up Dudley's room, he found several pound notes just lying around, by the time he had finished cleaning, he had found almost 300 pounds! Excited didn't even begin to cover it! Harry then took a trash bag and stuffed it completely full of the broken toys. He was hoping that over the next month that they could either fix them manually or magically. Either way, Dudley wouldn't miss a thing. Then Harry worked on organizing both of the piles and putting them away. No sense getting Dudley germs all over the house.
Finished with the organizing he dusted and vacuumed, leaving only the putting away of cloths and bed stuff for when it was finished. Satisfied that Dudley's room was finished, Harry walked out and into the spare room, aka Dudley's spare toy room, holding the bag of broken toys. He stopped and stared at the completely transformed room. Whereas before the room was a complete mess of broken toys and electronics, now is was a neatly organized toy room. Violet stood proudly in the center next to a trash bag, having just finished putting away the last toy. Harry whistled, "Impressive Violet. It looks like a completely different room."
Violet smiled, "Thanks Harry. It wasn't that hard, just putting everything away in its rightful place."
Harry nodded, "But never the less, it looks great. Now we just need to finish the upstairs bathroom and vacuuming the halls and we can be done with the upstairs till the Dursleys come back. You go ahead and do the bathroom, I'll do the vacuuming."
Violet nodded and handed over the vacuum to Harry and headed to the bathroom. Harry grabbed the vacuum and proceeded to vacuum the entire upstairs. After he finished, he vacuumed the stairs as well. Then he grabbed both bags of broken toys and things and brought it downstairs into the living room. Then he put the vacuum away and got Dudley's laundry and put his cloths away and made his bed. As he was finishing the bed, Violet walked in and commented, "Wow! Looks like Dudley never even lived here."
Harry flashed Violet a smile, "Yeah, and we don't have to worry about these rooms again till the Dursleys get back."
Harry finished the bed and walked out, closing the door behind him. He then walked over to Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia's room and surrounding the door while Violet closed the spare room door. Then they walked down the stairs never to set food again on the stairs until the month was almost up.
They walked to the kitchen and Violet began making sandwiches as Harry opened the Book. "So it looks like most rituals require runes to be drawn and ritual circles and pentagram are common too," Harry began as he flipped through the Book in the ritual section, "most of the drawing is done with blood, weather ours or an animals. And some rituals require the life of an animal."
Violet hummed as she slathered the tuna on a couple slices of bread, "So we need to kill animals, thats fine, we can use rats. Goodness knows that they seem to be everywhere. Lets go to the store later and get some rat traps."
Harry nodded in agreement, "We need to find a place to do these rituals. The forest isn't a bad idea, but anyone could stumble upon us and I do not want anyone to find out. What do you think about the backyard?"
Violet finished making the sandwiches and walked over to the table and handed one to Harry which he immediately took a bite out of. Then she sat down and took a bite of her sandwich. She chewed for a minute, swallowed and said, "I don't know, the backyard has the same issue as the forest. The neighbors are so nosy that if there were any flashes of light or sounds that they would definitely come investigate. What about the basement? The Dursleys never go there, they just make us clean it every once in a while. Plus there is that back corner that doesn't have anything. We can use that."
Harry beamed at Violet, "Your a genius! That would be the perfect place." He quickly finished his sandwich and stood up, "Let's head down and see what we have to deal with." Violet swallowed the last bite of her sandwich and stood up, following Harry to the basement.
Harry opened up the door to the basement and headed down the plain wooden steps. When the Dursleys had bought the house, the basement had been unfinished and the Dursleys never finished it. When Harry got down to the bottom of the stairs he opened the door and stepped into the basement proper, flipping on the light. It wasn't much to talk about, bare cement walls and floor, and wooden structural support beams scattered haphazardly throughout. It didn't look like a very livable place.
Harry walked past all of the pillars to the back corner of the basement that was enveloped in shadow. There really wasn't much down here, just a freezer and some emergency items. When Harry got to the back corner, he observed it for a moment, Violet beside him, and nodded. "Yes, this will work perfectly Violet," Harry said, "We can make a good sized ritual circle here, one big enough to fit the both of us I think, and it would be completely covered in shadow if it doesn't disappear."
Violet smiled brightly at the praise and asked, bouncing slightly, "So can we get working on those rituals?"
Harry chuckled at her enthusiasm, "We need to practice drawing the runes first, don't know what would happen if we perform a ritual wrong because we drew the wrong rune. I figured out that we can use mud to practice until we can draw it right."
Violet nodded and grabbed Harry's hand, "Probably a smart idea. Well? What are you waiting for? Lets get drawing!"
Violet then proceeded to drag a laughing Harry upstairs. Before she could make it to the door, Harry mentioned, "Do you want to know what you are drawing before you get out there?"
Violet blushed prettily and stopped trying to pull Harry out of the door. Harry went over to the table where the Book was lying open where he had left it. Harry and Violet studied the diagram intensely for a few minutes, then went outside into the drizzling rain. Harry paused for a moment to check the fences that there were no nosy neighbors peeking over, before following Violet to the mud pit. Violet had already stripped off her shit and shorts, leaving her in just her panties, and launched herself into the mud pit. Harry shook his head while pulling off his cloths, leaving him in just his boxers. Then Harry threw himself in the mud pit laughing with her.
For a few minutes they just played in the mud, then they got serious. Harry wiped the mud off of his chest and stomach and started trying to draw the rune on his navel. It didn't turn out so well. It barely looked anything like the drawing, if you squinted and tilted your head to the left maybe. He looked over at Violet and she wasn't having any more success. Than Harry was struck with a brainwave, "Violet? The Book didn't say anything about you having to draw the runes yourself did it?"
Violet frowned, "I don't think so. You have read the Book more than I have, does it?"
Harry screwed up his face in concentration, trying to remember, "I don't think so, at least not for this ritual. Hold on, I'm going to check the Book."
With that Harry got up and walked inside, absentmindedly grabbing his cloths on the way in. He threw them on the table next to the Book and grabbed the Book, flipping through the ritual section until he got to the Ritual Preparation: Runes section.
"Runes are a tricky thing. You need to be very careful when you are using them. Even one wrong line can be the difference between success and death. It is advisable that you practice extensively drawing the runes until you can draw them perfectly from memory. Also a thorough understanding of the rune and what it means and does helps boost the power and success rate of the ritual you are performing."
"As for drawing the runes for rituals, it is always best if you draw the runes yourself for the ritual you are going to perform, but that doesn't mean that you have to draw all of the runes for every ritual. Certain runes are so difficult to draw correctly, that only a Rune-master or someone with extensive practice could even think to use that rune in a ritual. And there are some general ritual circles that are drawn then used by whomever when they are needed. Generally those ritual circles are for experimental magics or healing."
"It honestly depends on the ritual whether or not it is required that you draw the runes yourself. Normally, the more personal and complex the ritual, the greater need you have to draw the runes yourself. And some runes must be drawn by you to work in a ritual as the rune gets tied to you in the act of drawing it. And all greater rituals must have the runes hand drawn by the one performing it."
"Most of the flexibility in rune use in rituals comes down to the medium the runes are drawn/carved on/in. If you use runes carved in stone or wood, anyone can carve it for you to use. Softer things like ink or burn marks are more picky in what they allow another to draw. Blood is completely out of the question for anyone other than the one performing the ritual to draw."
"The only known work around known for this is if the one drawing the runes is blood-kin, the closer the relation the better and they can only draw non-personal blood runes. As is runes drawn in blood not from the one performing the ritual. And with the intent for the rune to be used by the one performing the ritual in mind as they draw the runes. But be warned, this only works for lesser rituals and some complex rituals, never try to perform a greater ritual unless you have personally drawn the runes and personally retrieved the ingredients."
Harry brought his head out of the book for a moment, head swimming from the info dump he had just received on runes and rituals. He had a lot of questions going through his head, but they could all be answered later. The important thing is that he had figured out that if they needed to, Violet and himself could draw almost all runes for each other. Quickly he flipped over to the ritual and reread it, looking for if they could do the runes for each other and found that the runes on the neck and navel could, but the rune on the chest needed to be done themselves.
Harry left the book on the table, quickly got some towels for when they came back inside, and headed out to the backyard to tell Violet the news. When he got to the pit, he found that Violet had been practicing and had gotten the navel rune down and was working on the chest rune. Violet perked up at Harry's approach, "What did you find? Oh, and I think I can do the rune we need to draw on the stomach now."
Harry smiled, "Yes it looks very good Violet. And I found that there are rules for what runes and ritual someone else can draw the runes for you. And for all intents and purposes, you and I can draw almost all of the others runes for them. But for this ritual, we have to draw the chest rune ourselves."
Violet clapped her hands and bounced up and down, "Okay, but we should probably practice until we can do it anyway. It's good practice for the future. Then we can practice drawing on each other."
Harry nodded and his smile grew bigger, "Good thinking Violet. Lucky you got a head start on me."
Violet stuck her tongue out and threw a mud ball at Harry which hit him smack in the face. Stunned for a second, a smirk grew on Harry's face and he tackled Violet to the ground and they wrestled around. For the next few hours they practiced drawing the runes on themselves and each other until the runes came out exactly the same every time. And every once in a while, they would have a short but intense mud fight.
Just as the sky really began to darken and night truly set in, Harry and Violet stumbled inside, laughing and giggling the whole time. Harry shoved Violet towards the towels, "Go get cleaned up, your filthy!"
Violet sent a mock hurt look, "I'm filthy? Look at yourself mister covered-in-mud."
Harry merely smiled and grabbed his own towel, doing a quick and dirty cleaning job before he hurried into the bathroom and started running the bath. Violet meanwhile got out their nightclothes and set them out for after the bath.
Shortly the bath was filled and Harry clambered in. He looked over at Violet who was naked standing right next to the bathtub, just staring at the water. Concerned, Harry stood right in front of Violet in the tub and asked, "Are you okay Violet?"
Violet seemed to start and focus on Harry's eyes, "I'm fine Harry."
Harry frowned, "No your not, tell me Violet. Tell me and I will make everything feel better."
Shivering slightly, Violet said in an almost dead voice, "Whenever Aunt Petunia would give me a bath..." and she trailed off, seeming unable to complete the sentence. Harry waited for a moment and seeing that Violet only started shivering more, got out of the tub and gave Violet a strong hug. She seemed to start for a moment, before leaning into the embrace, letting Harry's presence surround and comfort her.
Harry simply held her, rocking her gently for a few minutes, before asking, "Can you talk about it?" Violet opened and closed her mouth a few times, before shaking her head. Harry frowned again, "Can you try and send it over through out bond?"
Violet gazed into his eyes, seeming to struggle inside, before Harry felt something entering his mind. It wasn't so much a thought, as a memory combined with emotions.
Aunt Petunia was in the bathroom with a naked 5 year old Violet. Aunt Petunia barked, "Get in the bath girl, quickly, quickly." 5 year old Violet scrambled into the tub and was immediately shivering in the cold water. "Hold still girl," Aunt Petunia snapped as she poured the freezing cold water on Violets head. Then she got the shampoo and poured a drop into her hand and began to vigorously scrub Violet's hair. Violet whimpered at the rough treatment and freezing water. Aunt Petunia simply scrubbed harder, viciously pulling her hair and digging her nails into Violet's scalp. After a few minutes of torture, Aunt Petunia dumped more cold water on Violet's headend quickly washed the shampoo out. Then Aunt Petunia grabbed a stiff scrub brush and poured a little soap into it and almost violently scrubbed Violet's skinny, 5 year old body. Violet was biting her lip so as to not scream. It hurt, it hurt a lot. A few minutes later it was over and Aunt Petunia dumped more cold water on her, washing all the soap off. Then Aunt Petunia walked out of the bathroom, calling behind her, "Drain the tub and dry off girl. And be quick about it."
The memory faded and Harry was in a rage. He could feel his magic roiling and thrashing around inside, reflecting the turmoil in his mind. Then he noticed that Violet was shaking really badly in his arms and what little he could feel from her mind was terror. With a supreme effort, Harry controlled his rage and emanated understanding and concern to Violet. Slowly, her shaking subsided and she felt the affection and concern from Harry. Finaly, her shaking stopped and she looked directly into Harry's eyes. Harry starred back and sent over the bond, 'I am here for you Violet, you will never have to experience that again. We will make them suffer. That is what we will be doing this rituals for, defending ourselves and getting in a place that we can punish the Dursleys.
Violet nodded and simply snuggled into Harry tighter, her face in Harry's neck. They stood there for some time before Harry gently shook Violet, "Lets hurry and finish this bath Violet, then we can have dinner and get a good nights sleep."
Violet nodded and let got of Harry and got in the tub. Harry climbed in after her and grabbed the shampoo. He squeezed a big gob in his hand and said gently to Violet, "Turn around Violet."
Violet looked at Harry questioningly, "What are you going to do?"
Harry replied looking her straight in the eyes, "Give you a much better experience."
Violet gave a small smile and turned around so her back was to Harry. Harry slightly winced at the scars that ran down her back, reminders of how many times he had failed to protect her. He rubbed his hands together, soaping them up, and gently started massaging it into her scalp. Violet flinched a little the moment his hands touched her head, but gradually relaxed as the gentle motions and pleasant feeling started to overcome her feelings.
Harry slowly and methodically washed all of her hair, before gently pouring the warm water over her head. Then he grabbed the soap and started washing her body, starting from her face down. Every time he finished a spot, he poured water on it and looked directly into Violets face. She had a contented smile on and grew more and more relaxed as he worked.
Finally he finished and quickly washed himself while Violet was simply standing there, absorbing the feelings that had been generated and obliterating her memory of Petunia. By the time she came back to herself, Harry was done and getting out of the bath when Violet surged forward and engulfed him in a hug. Harry froze for a moment, then hugged her back. No words needed to be said, they knew what the other was feeling.
Dinner was a silent affair, both were tired from doing so much that day and the emotionally charged bath. After dinner was finished they quickly cleaned up and went to the guest bedroom, climbed in bed and went to sleep, secure in the fact that they were together and nothing could separate them.
AN: Thank you to all for putting up with the changes in the story and the difficulties of updating and everything. If you have any ideas for rituals, either what they do or the actual act of what they have to do, please feel free to send in your ideas. Or if you have any suggestions for the rules, whether to add or correct. And please, feel free to suggest better names for the rituals. I am open to suggestions regarding just about anything I have written. And I don't have a beta reader and I won't be able to write/update consistently enough to get one for about a year, year and a half, so please let me know if I made a mistake in grammar or naming, or anything really. And if you find a plot hole, please let me know and I will do my best to fix it. Any help is appreciated. And thanks so much to TimothyB, Kreceir, xNaruHina, HTTYD Guest, doubledamn, KorinDragoon, Bronze, Micky0077, turtlemaster16, KungFuJoe696 and others for reviewing here and on ficwad. Your comments have been extremely helpful. I will be taking what you said in consideration. Also I will be updating as soon as I can.
Guest had a question of: Not sure if I understand or not, but did the path of Necromancy block out other paths? Or was it just that once going down the path, there is no 'not being a necromancer' thing?
My answer would be that once you go down this path, you won't be able to go back. It creates permanent changes to your body mind and soul to the point that trying to get rid of it would probably kill you. But that does not mean you can't use other disciplines or paths. In fact, many of those paths cross or are tied to this path.
I am completely revamping this story so there were a few hiccups. I will be re-releaseing the chapters that I had out. I just released the first two chapters plus the prologue. I am currently working on editing what used to be chapters 3 and 4.

~three weeks later~
A loud pounding woke Harry and Violet up. Aunt Petunia's voice cracked through the air, "Up, get up." Then she pounded on the door again.
