Chapter 4
Harry woke up to light streaming through the window. It was an odd way to wake up really because they had always slept in a cupboard with only a single source of light. Harry just lay there, enjoying the feeling of laying on a real bed with Violet in his arms, her face in his chest.
Some time later, Violet woke up to Harry stroking her hair and back. She turned her head up and looked into his eyes, "Morning Harry."
"Morning Violet. How did you sleep?" murmured Harry.
Violet stretched and yawned, "Pretty good. Probably the best sleep I've got in a while."
Harry smiled, "Same with me." They lapsed into a comfortable silence, just basking in the morning and being in each other's presence without the Dursleys.
Eventual Harry said, "Time to get up Violet. We have a lot of things to do today."
Violet groaned and stretched again, "Do we have to? I just want to do you here."
Harry chuckled, "Yes Violet, we need to get up. Or do you not want to perform our first ritual today?"
Violet jumped out of bed and headed for the door of the room, "Of course I do silly. Why didn't you say so?"
Laughing, Harry got out of bed and followed Violet to their cupboard and put on fresh cloths. Then Harry went and started cleaning the dishes from yesterday while Violet started making breakfast. They worked diligently and silently, simply sending uplifting emotions to each other every few minutes.
Finally breakfast was ready and they sat down at the table and began to eat. As they ate Violet started perusing the Book and Harry started planning what they needed to do today. After a few minutes, Harry spoke, "Alright, we need to get some stuff done today. First, we need to finish cleaning the house and clean the living room, guest bedroom, and kitchen. Than after that all we will need to do is maintain till the Dursleys come back. Then we need to get some rat traps so we can start getting our sacrifices. Then we need to practice our runes once again. We also need to review the ritual in the Book again to make sure we know what we are doing. And we need to start looking into other types of magic and what we can practice. I want to see if that mindmagic section has anything to say on meditation and if it can help us use magic. And we should see what the limits of our bond is."
Violet merely watched and ate as Harry went over what they needed to do and when he finished she swallowed and said, "Alright, makes sense. Lets get the cleaning done first, then we can decide what we want to do next."
Finishing breakfast, Harry and Violet put the dishes in the sink and headed to go clean, Harry the living room, Violet the guest bedroom. It only took a couple minutes to tidy everything then Harry got the vacuum and vacuumed both rooms, while Violet went and started cleaning the kitchen. It took about half an hour for both of them to scrub the kitchen and clean everything in it.
Harry sat down at the table, Violet sitting across from him, and he started speaking, "Alright, we got that finished, what do we want to do next?"
Violet took a breath and said excitedly, "I think we should practice our runes right now and do the ritual right after."
Harry smiled at her enthusiasm, "Yes, but we need blood and I don't want to use my blood right now. Probably want to save that for where it is called for. So we need to find creatures that we can get blood from and preferably a lot of blood so we don't run out in the middle of drawing the runes."
Violet slumped, "Oh, I had forgotten about that."
Harry sent comfort along the bond, "That's alright, I know you are excited to perform your first real bit of magic, but we need to wait just a little bit longer."
Violet blushed, "Yeah, I am just so excited! The things we can do with these rituals is amazing! We would be able to defend ourselves from the Dursleys and maybe even get out of here!" Here she bowed her head and stared at the floor, "I don't want to be weak again."
Harry hurried around the table and put his arm around Violets shoulder, "You won't and your not. You are very strong. Don't worry, soon we will be performing ritual after ritual and we will be stronger than the Dursleys. Who knows what will happen after we have completed numerous rituals."
Violet looked up at Harry, a mad gleam in her eyes, "Yes, then the Dursleys will know to fear us."
Harry smiled wickedly, "Yes my good girl. They will learn their place which is far beneath our feet. Perhaps even six feet under."
For a moment, Harry and Violet allowed the repressed feelings and desires about murdering the Dursleys to surface. They reveled in these feelings and how they were so close to accomplishing it. Then Harry regained control and said, "But enough of that now, we need to get some rat traps unless you can think of another animal that would work?"
Violet shook her head, "Not right now. The rat population is huge here and no one likes the vermin anyway."
Harry nodded, "Alright, lets head to the store quickly and get as many traps as we can carry."
Getting up from the table, the quickly got shoes on and grabbed the extra cash they found cleaning the hoses, and left for the pet store on the other end of Little Winging.
A few hours later they were back, laden with 6 rat traps and some rat food. Working silently, they placed the traps at different points around the front and backyard. When they were finished, they went inside and opened up the Book. They turned to the Mindmagic section and read the summary.
"The mind is a fickle thing, it is not like a book where you can turn to any point and simply read it. To truly master the Mind Arts, one must first access their own mind. Most wizards who seek to do this employ the art of Occlumancy. That is where one puts walls in and around one's mind to protect from the rudimentary mind art of Legillimency. They are both merely passable forays into the mind, while true Mind Arts are much more versatile and comprehensive."
"For you who want to master your mind, the first thing you need to do is meditate. Get in a comfortable position that you can be in for hours without falling asleep. When you do, focus one one thing, it doesn't matte what it is, a person, a place, an idea, an emotion, anything that you can comfortably focus on for long periods of time. Eventually you will start to feel a pull in your mind. That is the best way to describe it for those who have not felt it. Follow that pull and eventually you will reach your magic. Now everyone's magic represents itself differently, but you will know when you reach your magic. Continue to practice finding your magic until you can find it in a moment. Then you can progress to the next part."
"Once you can comfortably reach for your magic and have an intimate feel of it, center yourself and enter your magic. Then once you have done that, pull your magic up in the direction of your mind. You will know which direction that is. Continue to pull it until you can feel yourself in your mind. At this point the magic should automatically connect to your mind and create a mindscape."
"Once you have achieved the mindscape, you have complete freedom of mind. You literally are the god of your own mind. Everyone has a different mind and a different way of doing things, but the first thing you should do is organize your mind in a way that makes sense to you. Then create defenses against someone coming in and trying to find something. This book will not tell you how to do that or what they should look like because everyone is different so everyone's defenses and organization will be different. After this point the only thing you can do is practice entering your mind and continue to create and enforce your defenses."
Harry finished reading the section and turned to Violet, "Looks like this is a little more intense than we thought it was."
Violet turned her head to Harry, "Yes, but we have nothing but time and determination, so it should not hinder us to much. Plus every night we can meditate just before we go to bed. Meditation might not be as good as actual sleep, but its the second best thing. That way when we are done mediating for who knows how long, we can go straight to sleep."
Harry laughed and hugged Violet, "That sounds like the perfect idea Vi."
Violet arched an eyebrow at Harry, "Vi?"
Harry's face gained a sheepish look, "Um... Well I have always wanted to give you a nickname. I've been thinking about it for a while, I just didn't know the right time to say it."
Violet had an expressionless face as she stared into Harry's eyes. After a long moment she spoke, "Only you can call me that, Harry."
Harry's face broke out into a large grin and gave her a hug, "Thanks Vi!"
Violet smiled at Harry's enthusiasm and squeezed him back, "Your welcome brother."
They held each other for a few minutes, before they broke apart and turned to look at the Book again. Harry said, "So mind magic will take a while. Probably a few hours of meditation a day. Lets review the ritual we are going to do and practice the runes for a bit."
Violet nodded and said, "Okay, but can we do the ritual today?"
Harry sighed, "If we both can draw the runes perfectly and we caught some rats, yes we can do it today."
Violet jumped up and down, clapping her hands, "Yay, yay, yay!"
Harry ignored is temporarily insane sister and turned back to the Book, flipping the pages until he got to the ritual, reviewing it again. Nothing had changed and it was exactly as he remembered; he passed the Book to Violet and went outside. It had stopped raining but the ground was still a little muddy. Moments later Violet had joined him. Together they went to the mud pit, this time only taking off their shirts. Quickly drawing on themselves with mud a few times, they determined that they had perfected these runes. Then they practiced drawing the runes on each other. After a few tries, Harry reluctantly determined that they could draw the runes up to specifications.
Going inside they quickly washed their fronts off and put on a shirt. Than they went and checked the traps. The first one they checked had nothing. As did the second. And the third. And the fourth. Violet was getting a little discouraged at this point. Then they got to trap number 5 and it had a rat inside. Smiling brightly, Violet grabbed the cage and skipped over to the last cage. Inside were two more rats. Laughing Violet grabbed that one and started skipping back inside, Harry following at a more sedate pace, smiling at his sisters antics.
Harry shut the door, grabbed a large kitchen knife and followed his sister into the basement to the back corner. Violet had already stripped her shirt and shorts off and was currently going over the corner to make sure there wasn't any surprises, the rats in their cages on the floor.
Harry stripped down to his boxers and said, "Alright Vi, I know how eager you are, but I am going first."
Violet paused and looked back at Harry, "Why?"
Harry stared into her eyes, is iron will showing through, "Because this is the first ritual we will be performing and I am not going to have you go through something we have no idea what it will be like without going through it first."
Violet folder her arms and stared at Harry, but she could see that he would be firm at this, so she simply nodded her head and stepped next to the rats, "Fine, but I want to do the next ritual first."
Harry thought for a moment as he absentmindedly grabbed one of the rats and moved into the corner, "Very well Vi. You can do the next one first, now hush, I need to concentrate."
Violet nodded and watched closely as Harry grabbed the rat with one hand and the knife with the other. Then he slashed down and the rat was split open from neck to groin. Quickly handing the knife to Violet and sitting down, he slipped his finger into the rat, feeling slightly queasy at the sensation but pushing past it. He pulled his finger away and quickly began to draw the first rune on his stomach. As soon as it was completed, a hush seemed to fall over the basement, only the breathing of Harry could be heard.
Then Harry started working on the chest rune, for some reason, the blood stayed exactly where Harry put it, instead of running down like it should. As soon as the second rune was completed, the shadows seemed to grow darker and both runes started to glow a red light.
Harry looked up and started drawing the third and final rune. Once he finished it, he looked at Violet, silently asking if it was correct. Violet nodded and Harry took a deep breath and sat down, completely forgetting about the rat still in his hand, "Cibus effusio est maxime auget."
The slight glow of the runes increased tremendously until is was an almost blinding red aura and the shadows grew even darker, till the only source of light was the rune and Harry's strangely glowing emerald eyes. Harry took another breath and spoke, "Cibus effusio est maxime auget."
The rat in his hand gave a final squeak as its life force left, then it seemed to completely turn into blood which left Harry's hand and split into three streams, one stream going into each rune until the rat was no more. The red aura increased and there was a rushing sound that seemed to come from everywhere. The glowing of Harry's eyes increased and he took one more ragged breath, "Cibus effusio est maxime auget."
Everything froze for a moment, like time itself had stopped. Then the runes erupted and seemed to both explode and implode. Some of the blood splattered across Harry's entire front, covering from head to groin in blood, while the rest of the blood seemed to be absorbed into his body. Harry was shaking as pain spiked through his body. It was like he had a severe stomach ache and his whole torso was sore. For what seemed an eternity, he shook, partly in pain, partly because the ritual was causing his stomach to roil and undulate like a thousand worms were moving under his skin.
Then everything seemed to stop and the blood on Harry absorbed into his skin. The light came back and everything seemed to be normal. Violet rushed to Harry's side and knelt next to him unsure if she should touch him or not. For a moment nothing happened, than Harry groaned and rolled onto his side, "Ugh, that was uncomfortable."
"Harry!" Violet exclaimed, "How are you feeling? What was it like? Did it hurt?"
Harry chuckled weakly, "To answer your questions in order, I feel tired, like I ran all the way from here to the school and back; it was really weird, it felt like a serious stomach ache mixed with something moving and wriggling inside my stomach; it did hurt, but not a whole lot."
Violet rubbed Harry's back as he was talking. Once he finished she helped him sit up, "Alright, now can I do it?"
Harry looked at Violet and her eager face, "Fine, yes. You can do it. Just don't expect to do much the rest of the day. I could really use a nap right now."
Harry crawled over to where Violet had been standing and slumped to the floor. Slowly, he pulled himself into a sitting position. Violet had grabbed a rat and the knife that was discarded as she had helped Harry. She sat in the same spot Harry had and slit the rat the same way Harry had. Then she threw away the knife, barely missing Harry as she did. Then she stuck her finger in the rat and gathered the blood on her finger. Then she proceeded to draw the runes on her body.
When she was finished, she glanced at Harry and he nodded that everything was perfect. Then she began the incantation, "Cibus effusio est maxime auget." The runes glowed brightly and the shadows darkened.
"Cibus effusio est maxime auget." Just as before, the rat in her hand gave up the ghost and was turned into blood which was absorbed by the runes. "Cibus effusio est maxime auget." The runes exploded and Violet was subjugated to the same things Harry was. Eventually the shaking subsided and the blood disappeared.
A moment passed then Violet groaned, "You weren't kidding about how tired and sore it makes you."
Harry chuckled weakly, "Yes, we should probably grab the traps, put them back outside, and either go sleep the rest of the day, or meditate."
Violet nodded and started crawling towards the stairs. Harry stood up and grabbed the traps, then began shuffling towards the stairs. As he passed their shirts, he grabbed those as well then followed Violet slowly up the stairs. Violet immediately went to the bedroom they were claiming for the next month and Harry went outside and put the traps back, the one lucky rat oddly just sitting there, making no movements whatsoever.
Then Harry made his way back inside and locked the door, then went into the bedroom. Violet was in the only chair cross legged and eyes closed. Harry figured she was meditating. He thought that was a good idea so he climbed onto the bed and leaned against the headboard and closed his eyes.
AN: And here you go, chapter 4 is completed. Please review and if you have any suggestions for how to improve please send them. And are there any ideas for runes, what they are, what they look like, their name, and what they mean? Or rituals. That would be most appreciated. Thank you to all those who reviewed and made suggestions. I really appreciate it.
Thank you for putting up with the slight technical difficulties that have arisen for the past couple days. I had edited the first 3 chapters, (prologue plus two chapters), and I tried to update it but I was having some problems. I got it fixed, and now I should just be adding chapters rather than editing old ones.
Again be aware that this is unusual for me to add this many chapters is such short a time. I write when the muse is willing and I also didn't have access to reliable internet for a while. So don't be surprised if I don't update again for a while. Be assured that I am working on adding more chapters to this book and my Deaths Interference book.

Quick plug for some of my favorite fanfiction books ever.

Core Threads by theaceoffire of fanfiction. Extremely good, one of my favorites. The beginning could use a little editing but overall an extremely good book.
