"Laguna?"

It took him a moment before he looked up from the papers on his desk. Kiros was watching him curiously across the length of his office, striding slowly towards the desk.

"I just saw Squall . . . uh-."

"Storm out? Yeah." Laguna picked at the papers absently, letting a few flutter to the floor listlessly. He sighed and shook his head. "He was a little upset with my announcement. Apparently, he really doesn't want to think that I'm his father."

"It takes time with these things-."

"I don't want it to take any more time!" Laguna snapped. He buried his face in his hands, fighting back the sobs with hitching breath.

Kiros' hands were hot through Laguna's thin cotton shirt. A sob broke through fitfully, and Kiros cooed softly, kissing Laguna's temple gently.

"It's taken nineteen years damnit. That's more than long enough." He shook his head angrily, fingers clenching in his hair. "He . . . he just won't /listen/. He knows, and he can understand it and everything, because he's not /stupid/, but he just doesn't want to /hear it/."

"He thinks you abandoned him," Kiros murmured. It wasn't very helpful. Laguna scoffed, looking up at Kiros with watery eyes.

"It's not like I could help it. Couldn't let Odine mess with Ellone, couldn't let Adel keep fucking things over-."

"I know that, and you know that," Kiros whispered, "but imagine it for him. He spent his life as an orphan, and then you come along, after most of his childhood is gone, telling him you've been here all along. I'd be upset too."

"I suppose," Laguna grumbled. Kiros smiled softly, and kissed him very gently on the mouth.

"Just give him some time. He'll warm up to you."

"Like you did?"

"Holy Heaven, I hope not."
