I wake up to a man screaming.
Burke.
He’s shaking and screaming my name.
“Burke!” I yell as I shake him.
“Burke!” He jolts up.
He’s breathing heavily and staring off into the darkness.
“Are you ok?” I ask.
“The bomb went off. The one in that man. And I just had to watch you die.” He says in a choking voice.
“It was just a dream. Are you going to be able to get back to sleep?”
“I’ll be fine.”
I lay my head on his chest and I slowly drift back into oblivion.

I awake to an empty bed when my alarm goes off. I walk out of bed and into the kitchen to find Burke sitting reading the newspaper.
“Good morning.” He says.
“There’s nothing good about mornings.” I say groggily as I pour myself some coffee.”
“Good thing you’re a surgical intern.”
“Very funny. Did you get back to sleep last night?”
He flinches,
“I’m sorry about that...I know you haven’t gotten any good sleep on a while-“
I cut him off with a kiss.
“I’m here for you, you have-we both have been through a lot.”
I sit and drink my coffee.
“Do you ever think about it?” He asks.
“Think about what?”
“About where we would be if you had the baby.”
“I do sometimes, I wonder what would have happened if it wasn’t ectopic and if I would have kept it.”
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s not your fault I miscarried.”
“It’s my fault that you were pregnant and it’s my fault that you were alone during it.”
“It’s not.” I gives him a quick peck and go to get ready.

I slowly change into my scrubs in the locker room with a yawn.
“Did Burke keep you up last night?” Meredith asks with a teasing smirk.
“He had a nightmare and woke of screaming.”
“Not really what I meant but ok.”
“He asked me about the baby again this morning.” I tell her.
“What did you say?”
“He asked if I ever think about what it would be like if I had the baby. And I said I do.”
“Well do you?” Mere asks.
“I do.” After that we quickly head off to rounds.

I tiredly walk into our apartment and slump down onto the couch next to Burke.
“Rough day?” He asks.
“I gave 24 enemas.”
“So you did have a bad day.”
Burke turns to find me snoring.
He goes off to bed himself.
