Prologue: Connection to the spirit world.
My grandfather used to tell me stories of the old times. He had one of the few books left from the ancient times he read me to sleep. In the stories he told and sang, we lived in cities of glass and metal, with advanced technology that far surpassed what we do have now. However, mankind wanted to grow further that we had ever been. Like in the tale of the Babel tower, we were struck by a catastrophe that tore our society apart. After the fall of mankind, many grew up to tell the tale. We were devastated in a world of ruin and sand, so we turned to the gods and goddesses we had believed extinct for so many aeons back. It was them who operated the miracle of redoing the world as we know it today, and now only a few ruins secretly live in mysterious far-away places to be remembered.
Nonetheless, something had changed for us to stop the fights we used to have in the ages of wars and bloody skirmishes. Something had changed the world forever. The divines used their power inside to manifest their essence in primal stones all around the world. Those powers evolved to be conscient and spread further into other sentient beings, like animals and plants, soon to grow as vainly as we did in the past and also interacted with rocks, minerals, mountains, seas and the whole sky. Many centuries ago, when the technology once understood was past and crypted, we used those primal stones that had the power to bind the spiritual remaining to them and have those creatures take a form we could worship and adore.
Mankind had no longer the desire to rule the world, as we were taught in a vanity lesson. Now there were forces far greater that any power we could amass. Those were the spirits left behind by the gods. We soon began to associate ourselves with them, once we lost the fear of its power and learnt the goods and benefits from its candid, kind and warm characters in the primitive, feral and wild bodies they possessed. We did no longer call the monsters, as we used to, and soon instructed the new generations to love them and let them merge with our society. As a wordplay to what they were in the initial era, where they were beasts linked to the primal stones that could fit in our pockets, we left the name of pocket monsters for them.
A new era where these spirits could live among us as one another, together in harmony, began. It changed what we knew of humanity forever, thus starting the new world era: the era of Pokémon. My name is Red and this is my story.
