Chapter Nine: The Grind:

It's a long line today. So many souls to be judged. He was in the back of the line. This wasn't supposed to happen. He was the god of his house. Why did he say that?

It was the holidays. The shinigami were short-staffed. The line looked like it wasn't moving. One soul down. Thousands more to go. He shouldn't be here. Why did he say that?

"I did it. I have been lying to you. I killed Sachie-chan."

It just came out. Everyone knew the truth now. The god image was shattered. His wife finally snapped. Thirty-eight stab wounds.

Thinking about it made his blood burn. One more soul judged. Still, more to go. He gritted his non-existent teeth. He should not be here. Someone had to pay.

A ringing bell caught his attention. He turned for a look. Jingle. Jingle.

Hm? What was that? Jingle. Jingle. Jingle.

Jingle.

I'm not supposed to be here.

My bitch of a wife stabbed me.

It's a long story. Anyway, that's not the point. I should not be here.

What do you mean I can't go back? One more soul judged. The line moved one step forward. He frowned.

He breathed out. Thank you. He turned back to the line. Another soul got judged. The line moves another step. This was going to possibly take days. Fine by him. He will have one last chance to be in control.
