I’m making my escape, getting out of this town
Before all the gazes break me all the way down
Never thought that I’d be able to leave it all behind
Without a pair of handcuffs or a ‘Just Married’ sign
Mom and Dad, don’t cry for me, I hope you understand
That adventure pulls my aching chest into far-off lands
I told ‘em maybe Christmas, I told ‘em that I’d try
But as I breach the county line, I know that that’s a lie
The rising sun streams in from the passenger’s side
As I drive the country pens, far and deep and wide
I no longer know the names on the farm I see
So I know their watchful kitchen window eyes will let me be
Before all the gazes break me all the way down
Never thought that I’d be able to leave it all behind
Without a pair of handcuffs or a ‘Just Married’ sign
Mom and Dad, don’t cry for me, I hope you understand
That adventure pulls my aching chest into far-off lands
I told ‘em maybe Christmas, I told ‘em that I’d try
But as I breach the county line, I know that that’s a lie
The rising sun streams in from the passenger’s side
As I drive the country pens, far and deep and wide
I no longer know the names on the farm I see
So I know their watchful kitchen window eyes will let me be
