Unhuman: the Original Series

In spite of the name, this is the second part of the story I started with ‘Unhuman’. I suggest you read that first. Unhuman was about a Galaxy Class Starfleet Ship with a completely non-human Federation Crew that traveled to an alternate universe, one that was 100,000 years behind their own and one that happened to be the Battlestar Galactica Universe.
The Federationers managed to get the two sides to make peace and even started a Federation. The Current members are:

Kobalian - Humans, mostly from the rag tag Colonial Fleet, that Have settled on Kobal.

Cylons - 7 types of ‘Skin-jobs’, plus Centurions, plus Raiders. All are considered full Federation citizens. They have settled on the former worlds of the 12 colonies along with humans that were never part of the Rag Tag Fleet who chose not to emigrate to Kobol.

Vulcans -

Tarquinians - The logic-rejecting Vulcans who would have become Romulans have instead, settled on Tarquinius (formerly called New Caprica)

Talosians - a telepathic species from Talos IV.

Medeusans - resembling an octopus with seven limbs, this telepathic and hermaphroditic race have not yet become the energy beings that they would later become.

Borg - Starting with a single member and only accepting volunteers for assimilation, they have settled on the planet, Mars, and most of their members were drawn from Cylon and Talosian volunteers.

In order to balance and limit things, I have decided that Jump drives can travel over long distances faster than Warp Drives. But that the two technologies are incompatible with each other. A Warp core is required in order to have replicators, transporters, holodecks, shields and phasers. For this reason the remains of the Colonial and Cylon Fleets have been retained as fast strike ships. But the Federation has built enough Apollo Class ships to defend every home-world and more recently, a pair of Constitution Class ships.

Most of this story will take place on the Enterprise, one of the Constitution Class ships. It will resemble the Enterprise from the original Star Trek series, both externally and internally. However the Transporters are Medeusan and slightly more advanced and the hull is made of the same regenerating material as the Cylon Base ships. The Shuttle bay is equipped with a pair of Shuttlecraft, three Raptors and three Raiders, who are full members of the Crew. The Raiders have had their weapons replaced with advanced Sensors and they act as long range scouts, looking for something interesting for the Enterprise to investigate.

The highest ranked crew consists of:

Captain - Kara “Starbuck” Thrace
First Officer - Grcic - a Medusian
First Officer / Chief Science Officer - Stonn - a Vulcan
Chief Engineer - 23 of Two - Borg (formerly a model two Cylon)
Chief Medical Officer - Doctor Leptus - Tarquinian
Ships Councilor - Daimz - a Medusian who has ascended into being pure energy. (Came from the other Universe on the Argos)
Ships Councilor - Lieutenet Casandra Leek - Kobolian Oracle
Communications Officer - 1 of 20 - Borg (formerly Talosian)
Security Chief - Zoe Kalven - Cylon Centurion
Navigator - Toma - Medeusan
Helmsman - Klelia - Tarquinian
Yeoman Smith
Yeoman Justine Six

Space . . . the Final Frontier
These are the Voyages of the Starship Enterprise
Its’ continuing mission, to explore strange new worlds
To seek out new life and new civilizations
To boldly go where no one has gone before

Captain’s log: Stardate 58220.1 - We have arrived at the planet designated M-113. Our scans indicate that they have created an rudimentary warp core. We are therefore attempting me make peaceful first contact with the inhabitants of M-113.

Conference Room

“What do we know so far?” Asked Captain Thrace.

“We have been monitoring their communications,” reported Lieutenant 1 0f 20.

“The entire planet seems concerned over a world-wide shortage of salt.”

“Salt?” Asked Doctor Leptus.

“It would appear that their metabolism requires greater quantities of sodium chloride than any of our own,” added Lieutenant Commander Stonn.

“So we could be looking at a mass famine here,” mused Doctor Leptus.

“What about that warp corp?” Asked Captain Thrace.

“From what we have been able to ascertain, it is not known to the general public on M-113,” replied Lieutenant 1 0f 20.

“Our scans have revealed that the research is confined to a single facility and have not yet reached the stage of testing,” reported Lieutenant Commander Stonn.

“So out best bet would be to make first contact with one of the scientists working on the warp project,” mused Captain Thrace. “We’ll send a landing party consisting of myself, Doctor Leptus, and Ensign Darnell.”

“The Captain should not be risking her life on away missions,” protested Commander Grcic. “I should lead the away team.”

“Relax! It’s just a first contact mission with a scientist,” chided Captain Thrace. “What could go wrong?”

Planet M-113, Warp Research Project, Chief Administrators office:

With a flash! Three figures transported into the office. The Scientist looked unhuman, with his jaw protruding into a tube-like mouth and his grey skin. But as soon as the intruders appeared, his features shifted to look more normal to the three intruders.

“Zak? Zak Adama? How can you be here?” Asked Captain Thrace.

“She looks more like my dead sister, Livia to me,” countered Doctor Leptus.

“I’m seeing her as a model 8 Cylon,” reported Ensign Darnell. “A naked model 8!”

“I guess your species must be telepathic,” guessed chided Captain Thrace. “You don’t have to hide your true appearance. We mean you no harm.”

“Who are you? What are you?” Asked the scientist.

“My name is Captain Kara Thrace. I and Ensign Darnell are both members of a species called humans. Doctor Leptus is a Tarquinian. We are representatives of a United Federation of Planets, a multi-species coalition. We are here to make peaceful contact with your people.”

“Why me? Why now?” Asked the scientist.

“We chose you to make first contact with because you are currently working a project that could lead to your people’s traveling amongst the stars, where you would meet us,” explained Captain Thrace. “We thought it better to make contact this way than for us to meet for the first time in space.”

“I understand that there is a shortage of salt on your world? I brought some, in case you are suffering ill effects from it,” offered Doctor Leptus.

“Yes! Yes! I need salt! Give it to me!” Pleaded the Scientist.

Hearing the alien’s desperation, Doctor Leptus opened a pouch and took out a few salt tablets, expecting her to take one. Instead, she grabbed the whole hand-full and shoved them in her mouth.

“Yes! Yes! Life giving salt! I must have more!” Moaned the scientist, just before she pounced on Doctor Leptus and attempted to wrestle the pouch away from him.

Ensign Darnell attempted to defend the doctor, but the scientist responded by attaching her fingers to his face. He began screaming as she sucked to the salt out of his body.

“Oh yes! You are full of such juicy salt! You taste delicious!” Moaned the scientist as she assaulted him.

“That’s enough!” Yelled Captain Thrace, as she shot the alien with her phaser set on stun.

This was not enough to drop the alien. But it did break off its’ attack and turn towards Captain Thrace. Seeing the creature’s hostile intent, she turned her phaser all the way up and shot again, disintegrating it.
“Well that was a failed first contact,” mused Captain Thrace.

“Starbuck, I need to get him back to sickbay immediately or he’ll die!” Doctor Leptus.

“Right,” said Captain Thrace, as she pulled out her communicator and flicked it open. Thrace to Enterprise, three to beam up directly to sickbay.”

The three of them vanished in a flash as the transporter returned them to the ship.

Captain’s log: Stardate 58220.7 - The inhabitants of M-113 lose all rationality to their hunger for salt. I recommend against further contacts with this species.
