I woke up early the first full day we were at the farm. I left Pete to sleep and headed downstairs. Amy and Dad were up already. But my little family were all still asleep.
When I got to the kitchen Dad was already frying potatoes and sausage.
“Good morning Gracie. How did you sleep?” Dad asked me as I entered the kitchen.
“Morning Dad, morning Amy. I slept fine. Pete’s still asleep. Any of the kids up yet?”
“Nope, not yet.” Amy answered.
I made myself a cup of coffee and sat at the kitchen table.
“What do you want to do for your birthday?” Dad asked me.
“Oh, nothing really. I’m just happy to be here with everyone for it.”
We had left L.A. on Friday June 21st. We arrived in South Carolina a week later on Friday June 28th. My birthday is June 30th. My brother and his family were going to be here on July 1st. They were going to stay a week with us. Dad usually does a big cookout for family and friends on the 4th of July.
“Would you like a cake?” Amy asked me.
“Ya hafta have cake on your birthday Moon.” Bronx said as he entered the kitchen.
“Good morning Bronx. Can I get you something to eat or drink?” Amy asked him.
“May I have some juice please?” He asked.
“We have orange juice and cranberry juice. Which would you like?” Amy asked.
“Orange, please.”
Before Amy could get to the fridge I got up and got Bronx his juice. She didn’t need to wait on us.
“Are you ready to go riding today? And swimming in the river?” Dad asked Bronx. The river on the farm is a small one, not much bigger than a creek.
“I sure am!” He answered.
“Gracie, are you and the others gonna join us?”
“I will and I’m sure Marvel will. But I’m not sure about Pete and Saint.”
“Not sure about what?” Pete asked as he and Marvel came in.
“Would you like to ride down to the river and go swimming with us?” I asked.
“I do!” Marvel said excitedly. Her curly blond hair was tousled and she was still in her Frozen nightgown.
“Maybe. We’ll need to see if Saint wants to go. If he doesn’t, I’ll stay here with him.” Pete answered as he and Marvel sat down at the kitchen table.
Amy was going to get them drinks, but I told her I’d get them. I didn’t want to burden her. After getting Marvel some orange juice and Pete some coffee I sat back down.
Saint joined us not much later. After getting him set with some juice and breakfast for everyone I asked him if he wanted to come with us.
“I don’t know. Do I have to ride a horse by myself?” He asked wearily.
“No, you can ride with me. Marvel can ride with Pops.” I told him.
“Ok, I’ll go. Dad, are you coming?”
“Yeah, I’m coming too. But it’s been a long time since I’ve ridden a horse. I might need a little help.” He flashed his grin at us.
“Don’t worry, we have some very calm horses. We’ll make sure you’re on one of them.” Dad told Pete.
After breakfast I said, “Ok you guys, go put your swim suits on. Make sure you also put pants on over them. And shoes! You have to have shoes on to ride the horses.” I had to yell the last part because they all ran for the stairs.
Pete and I went up after them to get dressed. A few minutes later I was back in the kitchen packing some snacks and drinks to take with us.
Once everyone was ready we headed to the barn and got the horses saddled up. We put Pete on the mare Mary since she is the gentlest horse Dad has. We put Bronx on the gelding because he’s pretty docile. Dad put Marvel in his saddle and climbed up behind her. She was so excited. I helped Saint get in the saddle on my horse and I got on behind him. Daisy is a good horse and waited for me to get settled. I wrapped one arm around Saint and held him tight, the other hand held the reins. Then Dad and I led the way to the river. It’s walkable, but the ride was a nice one and we took them the long way so Dad could show off more of the property.
Bronx was a natural in the saddle. He took to it like a fish to water. Marvel was having the best time ever with Dad. Pete was fine once he and Mary figured each other out. And Saint held on to me for the first part, but then he relaxed and started to enjoy it. By the time we got to the swimming hole he was having fun.
When we got there we let the horses graze on the grass in the field next to the river. Bronx was the first to run into the water. It was already hot out and the cold water was a nice way to cool off. Marvel and Pete were right behind Bronx. Saint was a little more restrained, but he was encouraged by his brother to get it. It didn’t take long and all the kids and adults were playing and swimming in the river.
We had been there for a little while when Marvel squealed, “Fish! Look Daddy! There's fish in the water!”
“I see them too.” Pete told her as he grinned at her.
“Moony, will the fish bite me?” Saint asked in a very worried voice.
“No, Sweetie, they won’t bite you.” I assured him.
“Are you sure?” He didn’t seem very happy about the fish.
“These little fish can’t hurt you Saint.” Dad told him. “They don’t have teeth!”
Marvel giggled at that and Saint seemed more relaxed about being in the water. I was living with a city boy and his city boy son, but I think a few weeks here and they will both be a little bit more country. Maybe.
Once the kids were hungry and ready to get out of the water we headed back to the house. On the way back Saint was much more comfortable on horseback.
After lunch the kids wanted to play outside. They were told they could go outside but to stay in the yard. Not to go in the chicken coop or to play with anything sharp or rusty. They headed out to play and explore.
I took Pete out to a place I liked to go when I wanted to be away from the house. It’s just a spot where you couldn’t see the house or the barn, with a nice grassy area to sit and read or write or just be alone. It’s at the edge of a wooded area so it was also shaded. The light was dappled and it felt like you were on the edge of a fairyland. It was perfect to spend some time alone with him. We could still hear the kids laughing and yelling as they played.
“Where are you taking me?” He asked as he followed me across the yard.
“To my favorite place on the farm.” I told him with a smile.
He followed me to my spot. I had a blanket with me so we didn’t have to sit on the grass and dirt.
“It’s nice here. Is this someplace you come to a lot?” He asked as we got settled.
“Yeah, this is where I would come to read or write in my journal. It’s just far enough away from the house to give privacy. But not so far that you can’t hear someone calling for you.”
He took a deep breath and asked, “What do I keep smelling? It’s a flower, I think.” He took another deep breath to smell the air. “It reminds me of you.”
“Honeysuckle. It’s all over. My perfume has honeysuckle in it.”
“Will that grow in California?” He asked me.
“I think so. We can always look it up. Why?”
“I like the way it smells. Maybe we could plant some in the backyard.”
I smiled at him. “I’ll look it up when we get back.” I said and then stretched out on the blanket.
He stretched out next to me on the blanket. “Did you come out here often?” Pete asked me as he took my hand and laced his fingers with mine.
“Yes. If the weather was nice enough and I wasn’t doing chores I was usually here. I thought it would be nice to spend some time together, just us.”
He turned his head to look at me. “I am always ready to spend time with you.”
“Scott and his family will be here the day after tomorrow. And we’ll have Tim and April, their kids, and a bunch of other family and friends here for a cookout and fireworks on the 4th. There’s gonna be a lot of kids here. And a lot of adults. I hope it’s not too much for the kids or you.”
“I’m looking forward to meeting your brother and his family. I think the kids will be fine with so many people. We’re all used to being around crowds. But, what about tomorrow? What do you want to do for your birthday?”
“Nothing really. This is what I wanted to do for it. Spend it with you and the kids. Being here with Dad and Amy is a bonus.”
“You made sure I had a big party for my birthday. And you did a big Father’s Day celebration when I got back from England. Why don't you want something special? You do that a lot, you know.”
“Do what?” I asked.
“Do for others, but don’t ask for the same in return. I want to celebrate you too, you know?”
“Well, you’ve already done something huge for me.” I told him.
“What? I haven’t done shit for your birthday yet. I mean, I have a gift for you. But I haven’t planned a party, or ordered you a cake, or anything like that.” He said.
“You just spent eight days in a camper with me, three kids, two cats and a dog, driving across the country because I asked you to. And now you’re going to be here, on a farm, in the middle of nowhere for half the summer. That was a big ask on my part. Thank you by the way, you didn’t have to do it.”
“It hasn’t been a hardship you know. You did all the driving and planning for the trip. I just tagged along. You showed us some really cool places. It was kinda fun to live like you used to. And you got a lot of footage. I like your family. They’re very welcoming. And it’s so peaceful here. Not as quiet as I thought it would be. But still peaceful. I know Saint isn’t as excited about being here as the other two, but he’s still having fun. Bronx is so fucking happy to be here. Marvel is just crazy for all the animals. Do you think we should put her in a riding class when we get back home?”
“I’ve been riding since I was her age. If she wants to, it would be a good age to get her started. But horses are expensive to keep in a city. And they require a lot of work and time. We should give it some consideration.”
“Hmmm. That’s something to think about.” He mused the thought over.
We lay there, holding hands, watching the clouds drift across the big blue sky, listening to the cicadas and other insects. The birds and farm animals were making their sounds. And I could still hear the children playing in the yard.
“But back to what we were talking about. What do you want for your birthday?” He asked me after a few minutes.
“You.” I told him without thinking. “I was alone last year. You were on tour. This year, I want you for my birthday.” I turned my head to look at him, he turned his to look at me.
“You already have me.”
“I know. But there’s something else I want from you.” I flashed him a sly smile.
“Anything, you know I’d give you anything I can.”
I smiled at that. But what I wanted wasn’t a thing, it was something he could do.
“I like to watch. I want to watch you.”
“Watch me do what?” He was a bit confused.
“I want to watch you,” I paused for a second to phrase it right, “pleasure yourself. I like to watch you cum. I love the faces you make, I love knowing you’re getting off. I like being the one to get you off. But I want to watch you.”
“What? Here, now?!” Pete looked a little startled at my request.
Laughing I said, “No, not here and now. It’s not that private here. Tonight or tomorrow will be fine. Or anytime you want to give me a show.”
“Ok, I guess I can do that for you. But, you could’ve asked before, you know?”
“I guess I’ve been so satisfied with our sex life I didn’t feel the need to.” I turned over so I was on my side and propped my head up on my hand. I rested my other hand on his chest. “You know you’re the best I’ve had in over twenty years, right? If not ever. I love having sex with you. And I’ve been very satisfied. But I would like to watch you. Isn’t there anything you would like from me? Something we haven’t done or something you want me to do to you or for you?”
“Well, yeah, actually. But, I’m not sure how you will take it. What I like, I mean.” He was blushing a very pretty pink at this confession.
I threw my leg over his hip and moved so I was sitting on his hips, leaning into him, but with my arms holding me off his chest. “Oh, I don’t know, I’m a pretty adventurous person. If it’s something you want, I want to try it. You never know, I might even be excited to try it. Or, I might have even done it before. You won’t know until you ask.” I leaned on and kissed him lovingly.
He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me down so I was resting on his chest.
“Ok, I’ll give you what you want and I’ll tell you what I want.”
After kissing him again, I said, “Tell me. I wanna fulfill your needs. I wanna make you feel good.”
He kissed me hard and was holding me tight to him. And then we heard Marvel cry out in pain.
Moving faster than either of us knew we could, we both jumped up and ran across the field to where the kids were. I’m a hiker and can move fast if I needed to, but Pete is a runner. He got to Marvel before I did.
She was on her hands and knees crying. She had tripped and fell and scraped up both knees and both palms. Pete got to her and scooped her up.
“What happened, Honey?”
Marvel was in pain, and cried on her fathers shoulder when he picked her up. I was next to them by this time.
“Let me take a look, Miss Marvelous.” I said as I looked at her hands.
She sniffled and lifted her head off Pete’s shoulder. She looked at me and held out both hands for me to see.
Both of the boys were by our sids asking what happened too. They had been playing a game of hide and seek, so she was running when Saint was “It” and had his eyes closed and Bronx was heading the other way to go hide.
Both Pete and I took a good look at her hands and knees. She was scuffed up pretty badly on one knee, but she was going to be fine.
“Granny used to be a nurse, let’s go inside and have her fix you up.” I told her.
Pete carried her inside the back door into the kitchen. Amy was there and saw us as we came in.
“Amy, Marvel fell and scraped up her knees and hands.” I told her as we walked in.
“Oh no. Let’s take a look and get you all cleaned up.” Amy said to Marvel. Pete put her down in a kitchen chair. Amy went and grabbed the first aid kit and brought it out. I had already got a kitchen towel and got it wet so we could get the dirt and blood off.
Marvel was cleaned up and fussed over. In the end she only needed a bandaid over one knee. Everywhere else just needed to be cleaned up.
By the time Marvel was all done with being fixed up, both of the boys were inside too. Everyone wanted a snack. Marvel needed a nap and was being clingy with Pete, she wanted her Daddy. After the snack was done he took her up to her room and put her down for a nap. Saint was yawning and probably needed one too. I talked him into going up and getting a nap as well.
Pete and Bronx decided to just hang out together in the living room. I went to help with dinner.
We had another wonderful dinner together as a family. Marvel was in a much better mood after her nap. After dinner, but before bed, we read together. We still read together everyday. We had made it all the way through the Harry Potter books. We had moved on to other books. We were reading James and the Giant Peach.
The littles went down for the night and the adults hung out for a while before going to bed ourselves. It had been a long day and we were tired.
As we settled in bed for the night Pete snuggled up close to me. We were a bit too tired to do anything fun. What we both really wanted was to just relax, snuggle together, and fall asleep. And that’s what we did.
When I got to the kitchen Dad was already frying potatoes and sausage.
“Good morning Gracie. How did you sleep?” Dad asked me as I entered the kitchen.
