Manic and Sonic put on their medallions and stepped into the chamber.

Manic exhaled slowly.

Sonic's smart watch lit up. He pressed a button on the watch. "Yeah, Tails?"

"You guys ready?" Tails asked.

Sonic glanced at Manic. "You ready, bro?"

"Ready as I'll ever be." Manic replied.

Sonic held his watch close to his mouth. "We're ready."

Tails activated the chamber.

Sonic and Manic squeezed their eyes shut as the machine started whirring.
**
Sonic and Manic opened their eyes and gasped.

The city looked identical to the pictures of Mobotropolis about five years before the war started. The buildings were in pristine condition and there were trees and flowers in the park the brothers were standing by.

"Too bad we can't really be here." Manic said, looking around. "It's beautiful. I can't believe this is what Mobius used to look like."

"Well, we can sightsee when we fix our Mobius." Sonic replied. "What were we supposed to do again?"

"Just search the library and public records." Manic said, looking at the notes he had in his phone. "We'll split up and meet back here in an hour. I'll take the library; you take… whatever government building will have the records."

"Got ya." Sonic replied. He raced off to find the offices.
**
Manic walked down the library steps. "Waste of time." He muttered. "None of the events that led to the war in our dimension never happened here. So many things are slightly off, we'd be dead of old age before we could ever make those adjustments in our dimension."

He walked down the sidewalk to find his meeting spot with Sonic.

"Oh, I wish I could enter that competition." A familiar female voice said.

Manic stopped and turned around. "Sonia?"

This dimension's version of Sonia was staring, completely awestruck, at the poster for a singing competition.

This Sonia wasn't dressed anywhere near as nicely as Manic's sister. She was wearing a ragged, faded pink dress and worn sneakers.

Sonia hung her head. "Who am I kidding? I'm too shy and poor to go on stage."

"Just like my Sonia." Manic thought. He thought about how it was a pointless mission and about the wish he made on his eleventh birthday to have his sister back. "I guess you'll get the chance Sonia didn't get."

Manic followed this dimension's Sonia back to her little house, which was a rundown shack, and took down her address.

Manic's smart watch beeped.

Manic answered the watch and held it to his mouth. "Sorry, bro. It took me a while." He said. "Change of plans. Use the Tracker app to find me."
**
Sonic showed up at the little shack. "Why are we at this dump?"

"We have to help this girl who lives here." Manic said. "She needs help to enter and win this singing competition."

"This is our mission?" Sonic asked. "I dunno. Sounds crazy. How does helping her stop the war in our dimension whenever Tails gets his time machine working?"

"She would be like a peace mission ambassador." Manic replied. "She could help play a part in a potential treaty. The reason why it didn't happen in our dimension is because the other ambassador did… something wrong at the charity thing."

"It sounds like you pulled that out of your behind, bro." Sonic said flatly.

Manic rolled his eyes. "Don't shoot the messenger. I think it's crazy too."

"If this goes wrong, the blame is all on you." Sonic said.

"Fine." Manic replied. He led Sonic to the house and climbed through the open, living room window.

Sonia was busy cleaning the house and singing along with the radio to some pop tune.

"She looks familiar." Sonic said.

Manic bit his lip. "Uh-huh."

Sonic furrowed his brow. "Wait. She won't be able to see us."

Manic sighed. "I forgot about that." He said. "Well, he said the medallions would help us interact with the environment to certain degrees. No one's been able to see me, so I don't know how we'll give her the extra medallion."

"I thought I turned the TV off." Sonia said. She turned around, facing the brothers' direction and screamed.

"Huh." Manic said.
