Shadow sat in the palace courtyard, looking at the stars and getting some fresh air, away from the noisy crowd.
Maria came out and sat down.
“What are you doing out here?” Shadow asked.
“Aleena asked me to check on you.” Maria replied. She sat down beside Shadow. “You’re definitely an introvert.”
“Spending more than two seconds around Sonic is enough to make you an introvert.” Shadow said.
Maria laughed. She glanced back at the palace. “I can’t believe Sonic and Sally are king and queen of Mobius now.”
“I’m just glad we made it this far.” Shadow said.
Maria nodded.
“Do you miss earth?” Shadow asked.
“Sometimes.” Maria replied. “But I can breathe easier here than I did home. The air quality is better here.”
Manic and Jade, Sonia and Knuckles walked over to Shadow.
“We’re heading out.” Manic said.
Shadow got up and helped Maria up.
“It’s only eight o’clock.” Maria said.
“Well, Jade has to work, I have a gig tomorrow night, and it’s a long way back to Angel Island.” Manic said.
“Alright, be careful.” Shadow said.
Sonia hugged Shadow. “Thanks, Dad, we will.”
Sonia and Knuckles, Manic and Jade left.
Shadow and Maria headed back into the palace.
Shadow’s watch chimed.
Shadow looked at his watch.
Manic and Sonia sent messages to him, both saying the same thing: We know you definitely don’t say “I love you” in front of anyone, so we texted it to you instead.
Shadow replied back and caught up with Aleena.
Maria came out and sat down.
