Manic and Jade snuggled up together on the couch.
Manic sighed in relief. “I never thought the kids would go to sleep.” He said. He kissed Jade. “So which Matrix movie are we at now?”
“Was it two or three?” Jade asked.
“I thought it was three or four.” Manic replied.
“I’ll look it up unless you want to watch something else.” Jade said.
“Eh, let’s just watch Transporter again.” Manic replied.
Jade started the movie.
Manic stroked Jade’s spines. “I’d get us some ice cream, but I don’t want to get up.”
Jade laughed.
Someone knocked on the door.
Manic groaned as he got up. “Someone better be dying.” He muttered. He got up and opened the door. His eyes widened. “Uh, Babe, I gotta step outside for a minute.”
“Is everything okay?” Jade asked.
“Yeah, Babe.” Manic replied. He stepped outside and closed the door. “What are you doing here, Ivo?”
Ivo Robotnik shook his head. “How many times do I have to tell you to quit calling me Ivo?”
“Whatever, Robotnik then.” Manic said. “What are you doing here so late?”
“It’s only nine o’clock.” Robotnik replied. “Anyway, I need something taken care of and no one else with a debt.”
Manic scoffed. “Tough. I got out four years ago.”
“But you still have a debt.” Robotnik said.
“Debts are canceled as soon as you do a job for the top of the guild.” Manic replied. “You know that as well as I do since you work directly for the kingpin.”
“All I ask is that you finish this one job and you’re free.” Robotnik said. “The kingpin has made an exception. You’re free to go if you settle your debt.”
“So they can change the rules now?” Manic asked. “Or you’re lying. I’m gonna say it’s the latter. Find someone who’s still in the guild. I’m out.”
Manic opened the door, headed back inside and closed the door. He turned on the sprinklers, then peered out the window.
“Who was that?” Jade asked.
Manic smirked. He turned the sprinklers off and sat down beside Jade.
“Who was it, Hon?” Jade asked.
“Eh, some jerk.” Manic replied. “Don’t worry, Babe.”

Manic and Jade jolted awake to a loud crash.
Jade gasped. “What-”
The smoke alarms started blaring.
Manic and Jade’s twins, Elodie and Nikós, started crying.
Manic scrambled out of bed and opened the window. “Jade, get the kids.”
Jade picked up their twins out of their co-sleep crib. She hurried over to Manic.
Manic took the twins. “Climb out first, I’ll hand you the kids.”
Jade scurried out the window, then leaned closer to the window.
Manic handed her the twins, then climbed out.
Manic took Elodie from Jade, then they ran to the front yard.
The house was on fire.
Jade gasped. “Who would do this?”
Manic grit his teeth. “That jerk.” He said, pulling his phone out. “I’ll handle it.”
