Sonic, Sonia, and Manic sat down across from Shadow, Tails, and Knuckles.
Surge sat down at the end of the table next to Manic.
“So what’s Eggman’s scheme this time?” Shadow asked.
“Eggman created these mini drones.” Surge said. “They’re the size of flies and release this knockout gas when it’s close to its target. It’ll keep you knocked out long enough for the other drone to pick you up and take you back to the lab. Depending on certain factors, he’ll either brainwash you, roboticize you, or try to drain you of your powers. I think that’s what the machine does anyway. It’s kinda like that thing on the Matrix that they had Neo trapped in.”
Shadow crossed his arms. “You knew all of this, but played along?”
“He didn’t seem to be a threat until he made those drones. ” Surge replied. “I was only going to play along because he said he’d spare Manic and Kit if I did.”
Manic looked at Surge. “So you don’t care about my family?”
“Yes, I do.” Surge replied. “But not as much as I care about you and Kit. Eggman wouldn’t agree to it anyway.”
Manic turned away from Surge.
Surge touched Manic’s shoulder. “Manic, I’m sorry.”
Manic pulled away. “Are you?”
“Hear her out.” Sonia replied.
“You were saying, Surge?” Sonic asked.
“It was a hard choice.” Surge replied. “Saving your family was never going to be an option. It was either go along and keep you safe or back away and let you get killed. By that, he threatened to… remember what happened to that corrupt cop on Robocop 2? That was what he was going to do to you, Manic. He wanted to see why you didn’t get affected by the radiation.”
Manic shuddered.
“She made the right choice in the end, bro.” Sonic said.
Manic angled himself to face Surge. “I can’t blame you.” He said. He hugged Surge. “It’s alright, I forgive you.”
“If we’re gonna do this, take off the rings, Surge.” Tails said, closing his laptop. “According to the files I hacked into, they’re used to shock you if you try to step out of line.”
Surge took the rings off.
Manic leaned closer to Surge. “I’ll buy you something with my Hot Topic rewards after this to replace those.”
Surge looked at Manic and ruffled his head spines. “That’s sweet.” She replied. She leaned closer to Manic. “But you can save money for when it’s time to buy a certain kind of ring.”
Manic smirked.
Sonic nudged Manic. “Focus, bro.” He said. “Okay, let’s do this.”
