After leaving the lighthouse, Sean made his way down the road that leads to Los Platos and finally reaches a bridge that crosses over a small creek with a small waterfall on the left side and the stream seemed to reach a small beach.
"Many Water Types live around here..." Sean noted of the wild Azurill, Chewtle and Magikarp around the area 'Some of which I am more than familiar with, at least.'
What caught his attention before was one of the Pokemon near a small lake. A brown amphibious Pokémon that resembles an upright, arm-less axolotl. It's head is large compared to its body, and it has small, round, black eyes with two pairs of bone-shaped gills branching from its head, as well as an eight-pronged pattern on its stomach. It stands on two small, round feet, and it has a large, thick tail.
Sean took out his Rotom Smartphone, which activated the Pokedex and scanned it 'Wooper, Paldean Form. The Poison Fish Pokémon. A Poison and Ground type. After losing a territorial struggle, Wooper began living on land. The Pokémon changed over time, developing a poisonous film to protect its body.'
"So, Regional forms are known here too, huh?" Sean muttered to himself, remembering that one day he came across a Galarian Farfetch'd "Better be careful around them..."
The Paldean Wooper noticed the boy staring at him before jumping into the lake and diving below, out of sight. As Sean was thinking on which Pokemon he should catch, a sudden blast was heard which got the boy's attention as he rushed through towards the source of the noise.
After finally arriving at an area surrounded by lakes with rocks, Sean looked to see a familiar Pokemon firing a stream of water at a rock, pulverizing it. The Pokemon is a yellow duck with three thick strands of black hair on top of its head, and it has a wide, flat cream-colored beak. It's eyes seem vacant and have tiny pupils. Its legs and tail are stubby, and it has cream-colored webbed feet. There are three claws on each of its hands.
"A Psyduck..." Sean recognized the Pokemon, as he watched the wild Psyduck firing multiple Water Guns at the piles of rocks, reducing them all to rubble "Whoa... Awesome."
Psyduck continued launching attacks at the rocks before stopping and taking a breath. It then crossed arms and sighed to itself until taking notice of Sean, who tensed slightly after being seen. Psyduck glared at the Trainer before quickly disappearing into the tall grass.
"That was strange..." Sean said to himself. 'I've never seen a Psyduck train its moves so much. Talk about one of a kind. I hope to see it again.'
With that said, Sean returned walking down the path towards Los Platos. He then took notice of Nemona, who saw a familiar face approaching.
"Oye, Sean! Over here!" Nemona called, then gestured to the building that resembles a gas station, with a large white Poke Ball-shaped light on the flat rooftop. "You can come here to take care of a lot of things related to your Pokémon. But I'll leave the explanations to the pros here."
"Happy to be of service - and welcome to the Pokémon Center!" The pink-haired woman greeted with a nod and a friendly smile, standing behind the red-colored counter "I'm here to keep everyone's Pokémon healthy." She then gestured to her left, where a man wearing a blue shirt stood behind a blue-colored counter "Here on my left is the Poke Mart counter! You can buy things like Poke Balls and Potions."
"Hello!" The man greeted in the same friendly manner as the woman. "We accept payment both in cash and in LP - League Points, that is. One LP is worth one Poke Dollar."
"And this to my right is the Technical Machine Machine - TM Machine for short!" The woman gestured to her right, where there was a green machine. "It's your ticket to making TM's, which you can use to teach moves to your Pokémon. You'll need to pay in LP and supply the machine with materials that Pokémon drop."
"LP comes in handy both at the machines and at stores! I've got a lot - here, have some!" Nemona offered. Sean took out his phone, where Nemona transferred 5000 LP to his account "Oh yeah, and some of these too!" She held out a case-like container, which shows a list of materials already stored inside.
"Come visit us at the Pokémon Center anytime you need any help!" The woman continued.
"We will. Thanks!" Nemona replied, then turned to Sean "Remember: 'Had a rough adventure? Get to the Pokémon Center!' Sometimes you have to know this sort of stuff for quizzes at school. But mnemonics help out!"
"Duly noted." Sean nods in response.
"Now, time to go. Once we leave Los Platos, we'll hit the best-known spot in the South Province's Area One: the massive hill on the way to school!" Nemona said. "You'll usually find Trainers there who are just itching to battle."
"Actually, I still need to catch another Pokemon." Sean decided on, which got Nemona curious "And there is one I have taken an interest in. Say, did you ever see a wild Psyduck training back there?"
Nemona crossed her arms in thought "Hmm... I actually did before. But it ran away after spotting me." She then pats Sean on the shoulder "Hope you do end up catching it."
"I hope so as well." Sean said.
Sean returns to the area, and explored the entire path where he saw more wild Pokemon frolicking while some fled from the passing Trainer. He had collected many items that were scattered all over, which he found quite promising in his more upcoming adventures. Walking over to the rocky wall, a familiar sounds of rocks was heard as he finally caught sight of Psyduck still training as the young teen hid behind a small slope.
Catching sight of a large rock, Psyduck rushed forward and unleashed a powerful Scratch, leaving three slashed marks across. The Duck Pokemon began to look frustrated as it began slashing the rock with no signs of letting up, but was slowly getting exhausted.
'Seems like it has been struggling to break that large rock. But I think I can help with that.' Sean stood up from where he was and quietly approached. "Hey." Psyduck quickly turned its gaze on the Trainer, assuming a battle stance as Sean raised his hands as a way to show that he means no harm. "You want to get stronger, right? It's why you train a lot, even back before. I must say, you're unique for a Psyduck." The Duck Pokemon crossed its arms and turned away, head lowered. "Let me give you some advice; instead of aiming in different points of the rock, strike in one single spot."
Psyduck glanced at him for a brief moment, then looked to the rock with a stern gaze. It began to take in what Sean said and began using Scratch relentlessly at the same exact spot of the rock. Eventually, cracks began to form around it until Psyduck jumped back and fired off a Water Gun at the center, finally destroying the rock.
"See, there you go." Sean said. "As you can see, when you focus your attack in one spot, it can change the tide of the battle. However, there is so much you can do alone. And I'll prove it to you."
Psyduck stared at Sean, who then brings out his Fuecoco, as he began to whisper to his Pokemon partner. The Fire Croc listened before finally giving a nod and taking a step forward, giving Psyduck a gesture to fight. Psyduck quickly jumped into action by firing off a Water Gun.
Even though it was caught off guard by the sudden attack, Fuecoco managed to avoid the stream of water and slammed into Psyduck, who dug its feet into the ground and raised a hand to slash Fuecoco, dealing some damage. The Fire Croc quickly recovered from the hit and fired a point-blank Ember that hits Psyduck in the face, causing it to stumble back from the Fire move but recovered due to resisting the damage.
Meanwhile, Sean was observing the battle with his arms crossed, knowing that this battle would help Psyduck understand something. Back in the battle, Fuecoco lunges forward to use Bite when Psyduck's eyes began to glow purple, to which Fuecoco now becomes outlined in purple energy. The Fire Croc flailed frantically to try and move but was thrown at a nearby rock wall. Fuecoco shook its head before getting back up as Psyduck fires off a Water Gun.
Fuecoco uses the rock wall to jump over the incoming attack and right over Psyduck, who was caught off guard as the Fire Croc took in a deep breath before firing an Ember that explodes upon impact. As Fuecoco lands on the ground, Psyduck was briefly standing with a stern gaze before finally collapsing on the ground and faints.
Sean nods once with a calm expression and closed eyes. 'And that's battle over.' He walked over, opening his backpack and taking out two Potions. He uses one to heal Fuecoco and the other on Psyduck, who immediately wakes up and looks at the young teen. "You're strong, Psyduck. But going down this path alone can only take you so far. I want to help make you even stronger. So, how would you like to join my team? We'll go on many adventures together, see things that no one has ever seen before, and face many powerful opponents along the way."
Psyduck crossed its arms and began to ponder the opportunity that was presented to it, then glanced at Fuecoco, who gives a silent nod. Psyduck looked down before facing Sean with a firm look and a nod of acceptance. Sean smiled as he held out an empty Poke Ball.
"Well then, let's make a great team." Sean said as Psyduck pressed the button on the device, which opened up. A red beam of energy enveloped Psyduck inside the Poke Ball, which closed up and shook a few times before it finally stopped and dinged, signalling a successful capture. "We've got a new friend, Fuecoco."
The Fire Croc Pokemon cried out happily as Sean smiled and stood up straight with a determined look. The young Trainer checked his Pokedex to look over Psyduck's info 'Psyduck is a Male with the Hidden Ability, Swift Swim. It's move set is Scratch, Water Gun and Confusion.'
"Wow... Talk about luck of the draw. I'll make good use of that." Sean remarked to himself as the Rotom device returned back to its bag pocket. 'Plus, having a Water Type is a win for me.'
A warm breeze of wind passed by, which made the young Trainer hold onto his hat before finally leaving South Province area, and both him and Fuecoco began moving onto the next area that leads up to Naranja Academy.
