Manic walked out of the gelato shop with his skateboard tucked under his arm and a cup of mango and strawberry gelato in his hand. He sat on the curb to eat before he called Aleena to pick him up.
A midnight blue van pulled in front of Manic.
Manic raised an eyebrow and his spines.
A couple of GUN agents had gotten out and knocked out Manic with chloroform before he could try to get away.
Manic (who had dropped his backpack, gelato, and skateboard) was thrown into the van.

Manic woke up in a pale gray and white stall with a translucent plastic and metal door and a small window on the far wall.
He hissed and looked at the bruise on his arm. “What…? Did they give me a shot?”
The only sound he heard was some muffled voices and footsteps.
Manic huddled up in the corner of the cell, rubbing his arm. He wiped the tears out of his eyes. “What did you do to me?” He cried. “I need to go home. Please let me go home.”
A human girl and a black and red boy hedgehog close to his age walked over.
The door to the cell opened.
Manic curled up, hugging his legs, and trembled. He didn’t know if these two would hurt him or not.
The girl and the hedgehog knelt down across from Manic.
“Hi, Nikós.” The girl said softly. “I’m Maria and this is Shadow.”
“Nikós?” Manic thought. “Why is she calling me that? Is it a code name?”
“Nikós?” Maria asked. “We won’t hurt you.”
“My name… my real name is Manic.” Manic muttered. He slid closer to Maria.
Maria put her arm around Manic. “I’m sorry, Manic.” She replied. She stroked Manic’s spines. “I’m trying to help you and Shadow. I don’t like what Grandfather is doing.”
“Thanks.” Manic said. He hugged Maria and started crying. “I miss my Ma.”
“I’m so sorry.” Maria said softly.
Shadow sat down beside Maria and hugged her.
Maria put her arms around Shadow and Manic. She hummed softly.
Manic relaxed and softly began to sing along.
Maria smiled. “You like that song?”
Manic nodded. “My brother bought me the CD for Christmas last year.” He said. “That’s one of my favorites.”
Maria continued humming.
Manic relaxed and finally fell asleep.
