Chapter 1:

It really did start like any other day. Blue skies, green grass, cool waves. A nice autumn breeze rolling through the valley. For Alex though, it couldn't possibly be any stranger. Waking up that morning to find a fucking demon, hovering over his bed had definitely not been a positive way to start the day. With all of that screaming and tumbling out from under the sheets and reaching for his sword beside the nightstand to slice it in half. Huffing and puffing, holding his sword in the ready in case any other surprises found their way into his bedroom.
Of course, there wasn't anything else though, leaving him standing and startled for a good thirty minutes, before he decided the coast was clear and lowered his weapon. A sweat had broken out onto his forehead and along his spine, pressing through the back of his black t-shirt. Normally, he wouldn't have to kill something this early in the day. They usually came around noon, but it felt like they were getting bolder and bolder with each passing day.`
A stumble from outside his door, brought that sword back into the air, pointed at the knob. It was followed by a stretch of silence, and then his father burst into the room. In a whole suit of his battle armor, water dripping from his freshly cut hair, eyes scattering around the room. "Is everything alright in-" He stopped then, taking in the disheveled sight of his son. Alex, lowered his sword for a second time, a puff of relief leaving his lungs. "Oh, gods. You scared me." He mumbled, slouching down to his bed. "Don't do that again."
His father, glanced down at the ash and streak of blood on his floor. "Don't tell me they found a way in here, too." He said, softly. Alex had no other choice but to nod. He didn't like giving his father bad news. Especially now, with the wars under sea still going steadily. He wished he could ease that pressure off his shoulders some how, make life feel a little easier as a God. But Poseidon wasn't exactly into being sentimental when he was stressed. His green eyes flickered up to Alex's again. "I guess I have no choice then. Pack a bag, Alex. We're going to go visit a friend of mine."

And that is exactly how Alex ended up standing in front of a wooden arch in the middle of literally nowhere. Surrounded by hundreds of acres of enormous trees and bumpy land filled with roots for hundreds of miles. The wooden arch had a single sentence on it. Camp Half-Blood. Alex shifted his bag on his shoulders. He didn't have a lot to pack, seeing as he didn't own much but clothes, his sword, and a few things from his father that he treasured close to his heart. Poseidon had left him here in a rush and told him to just walk right through.
He was having quite the difficulty just walking right in. Maybe it was the fact that there was nothing to walk into. It was just the arch and the trees surrounding him. But, then again, Alex knew better than to question the ways of Gods. He knew there was probably some magic at work here and frankly, he was too tired to question it, so he did as he was told. And walked right through. Immediately, he was met with shouts of chaos and laughter and the absolute over taking feeling of awe. He couldn't believe what he was seeing.
It was almost like a hidden civilization. A huge rectangle like shape of different colored cabins instantly filled his vision. Followed by the huge field to his left that led up to a huge hill with a singular pine tree holding- Alex did a double take. There's no way what he was seeing was real. The Golden Fleece. The actual fucking Golden Fleece. He'd only heard about that thing in tall tales. Never once did he think he would be seeing it in real life. The next thing his eyes landed on was what looked like an arena shaped building. And next was what looked a cafeteria of some sort.
More shouts came from below to interrupt Alex's thoughts, but they were closer now. The ground began to shake like a stampede was heading his way. I just can't ever get a break, can I? Alex thought, drawing his weapon. A bit of fear creeped up his spine as the noise
The ground began shake, the noise was deafening in his ears as he tightened his grip around the sword in front of him. Suddenly, as if teleported from no where, a giant horse-man thing, strode? Rode? Alex couldn't find a word to fit the way he came over to him. He just did. "It is my honor to finally get to meet you, Alex." He said. "No need for the weapon. I bid you no harm." Slowly, Alex lowered his sword, a strange curiosity spreading through his brain like a calm tingling feeling. "How do you know my name?" He asked. The horse-man, laughed a heavy sound.
The hoofs, where his feet should have been, galloped giddily. "Why, I am close friends with your father, of course." Oh. So this was the friend Poseidon had talked about. "Now, come on. There is much to show you. And so much more to explain." Alex didn't really want to follow this guy. He didn't want to go deeper into this 'Camp Half-Blood'. He wanted to go back to the safety of his room, where his dad would be. Thinking about that now, he realized that his room wasn't all that safe. And his father wasn't even there half the time. It was just him and the silence of being home alone until some monster showed up to frighten him.
He stayed put where he was, weapon lowered, but not completely. The horse-man sighed heavily. "My name is Chiron. I am the director here at the camp. I assure you, it is not as bad as you may think, Alex." Alex didn't like the fact that he knew his name. Or that he kind of wanted to trust a stranger and let them bring him to simple things. As much as Alex enjoyed the thought of things being easy, he knew he wouldn't be able to stand being without chaos. "Whatever it is you want to tell me, you can tell me here." Alex said, his voice wavering slightly. Definitely not how he imagined it would sound. Chiron nodded, his long, thick, curls shifting beside his head, slightly.
"I understand you are frightened. It's not every day you are told that you are a demi-god, descended from a God high up in the sky that people worship on a day-to-day basis." He said, he knelt down on his legs. This sent a wave of ease over Alex, causing him to lower the sword fully. "I've been knowing I was demi-god. That's not why I'm on edge." Alex replied. Chiron took this with a bit of a surprise. "Really now? For how long have you been aware of your heritage?" Alex shrugged, leaning ever so gently onto the hilt of his blade. "Since I was, like, really little." Chiron stroked the bush of a beard on his face. "Interesting." He mumbled.
A few more shouts went up, along with the sound of an explosion. A tangle of oranges and yellows and smoke shot out of one of the cabins, the windows blew out, the door swung open. Kids, in what looked like overalls from where Alex stood on the hill, ran out in a coughing fit while waving their hands in front of their faces. More people from other cabin's came out to see what all the commotion was about and offer helping hands. Alex's eyes widened. "Did that-" Chiron nodded before he could finish. "Yes. That cabin exploded. But need not to worry, that cabin belongs to Hephaestus. That's perfectly normal."
As if on cue, the whole crowd dispersed as if bored that nothing exciting was happening. Only a few stayed to help put out that fire. Alex was so mesmerized by how unified the people were in putting out the fire that he didn't even see nor hear when another joined the two. "Leo exploded the cabin again." Alex turned sharply to see a girl, no more than maybe six years older than him, standing next to Chiron holding a stack of green buckets. Her striking blonde hair was pulled back into a pony-tail, her grey eyes studying him like he was a problem to be solved.
A string with many multi-colored beads on it, hung around her neck. She wore a bright orange shirt with the words Camp Half-Blood Counselor and light blue jean pants to protect her from the wind. Seeing her in the short sleeve shirt made Alex shiver slightly, even if he was hiding under a thick-black sweater and dark blue jeans. "Is this the new kid?" She asked. Chiron nodded, standing back to his feet. She turned back to Alex, holding out her hand. "Annabeth Chase. Daughter of Athena and Camp Counselor." Alex looked at her outstretched hand, but didn't shake it.
She looked taken aback for a spilt-second before withdrawing her hand. "Okay." She said slowly. "Do you want me to show him around while you take care of Leo?" She asked Chiron. Alex sheathed his sword. He had a feeling he wouldn't be needing it for now, but his hand laid on the end just in case. "Yes, thank you, Annabeth. You truly are a wonder. Percy is lucky to have you." Annabeth beamed shyly at that. "Thank you, sir." She replied. Then she turned back to Alex. "Ready to see the whole camp? We're gonna get you checked and find you a nice place to sleep." Alex knew that this answer would probably change things, more than they were already being changed. He was scared. But he couldn't help from feeling that small twinge of wonder that sparked inside his chest. And with a single heavy inhale he nodded.
