Aleena led her four year old triplets inside the house.
Sonia and Manic were still crying while Sonic was trying to comfort them.
Sonic had cried during the entire funeral for their dad and probably had no tears left to cry or he was trying to be the strong male of the house.
Aleena closed the door behind them.
“Mom?” Sonic asked.
Aleena knelt down to the triplets’ eye level. “Yes, sweetie?”
“Who’s gonna take care of us now?” Sonic asked. “You said Dad couldn’t come back and he took care of us.”
“I will.” Aleena replied. “Don’t worry, little ones. We’ll be fine.”
Manic finally pulled away from Sonic. He wiped his eyes with his trembling hands. “Why can’t he come back, Ma?” He asked. “I miss him.”
“It doesn’t work that way.” Aleena replied. “I wish it didn’t; I miss him too.”
Manic hugged Aleena.
Aleena picked up Manic, then stood up. “Come on, let’s get you some water.” She said, walking to the kitchen.
Sonic and Sonia followed Aleena.
Aleena got Manic some water, then took him to the living room. She sat on the couch, rubbing Manic’s back as his cries finally subsided to shaky gasps for breath.
Sonic and Sonia sat down on either side of Aleena.
Manic slowly pulled away.
“Do you need anything?” Aleena asked.
“I want to draw.” Manic replied.
“Go on, I’ll call you when it’s time for dinner.” Aleena said.
Manic, Sonic, and Sonia headed to their rooms.
Aleena checked her phone. She had one voicemail from the hospital she applied for a job at. She quickly played the voicemail, hoping and praying she had gotten the job.

Aleena gathered her triplets into the kitchen for dinner and to announce that she would start her new job in five days.
They all sat at the table.
Sonic swung his legs, occasionally kicking Aleena’s shins, while Manic drummed his fingers on the table.
“Sonic, can you please stop swinging your legs that far?” Aleena asked. “Thanks for not pacing right now, by the way.”
“Sorry, Mom.” Sonic replied.
Manic slid his hands off the table to drum his fingers on his knees.
“Thanks, Manic.” Aleena said.
“Why do they have to do that?” Sonia whined. “It’s so annoying.”
“It helps them focus, Sonia.” Aleena said. “Be patient, they’re still learning quiet ways to fidget.”
“Yes, Mother.” Sonia replied.
“I wanted to tell you that I start my new job at the hospital on Monday.” Aleena said.
“That’s great.” The triplets replied.
“But the thing is, it’s gonna be a lot of crazy hours, so… I won’t see you as much.” Aleena said. “I’m sorry, but this was the only job available.”
“Aww.” The triplets whined.
“I know, I don’t like it either.” Aleena said. “Anyway, Uncle Chuck will be moving here soon and he’ll watch you while I’m working. When he can’t babysit you, Maria and Gerald will.”
The triplets nodded.
“But you’ll have days off like Dad did, right?” Sonic asked.
“Well, yeah, but it’s not like other jobs.” Aleena replied. “If they call me in on my day off, I’ll have to go.”
Manic sighed. “Does it have to be a hospital?” He asked. “Can’t you work at the grocery store or the gelato shop?”
“Those jobs don’t pay enough to support all of us.” Aleena replied. “This job does and we’ll have insurance. Hopefully, I can find a different job later.”
“I hope so.” Manic said, crossing his arms. “This is bogus.”
Aleena nodded. “‘I hope so too.”
