Sonic and Manic get summer jobs at Uncle Chuck’s restaurant and Manic nearly ticks off the wrong customer.
0Unrated
Manic and Sonic showed up for their first day of work at Uncle Chuck’s little restaurant.
Uncle Chuck stepped out of his office. “Okay, Sonic, you can’t eat all of the chili dogs.”
“Alright, Unc.” Sonic replied. “Trust me, I’m not. Mom and Dad already gave me a lecture.”
“Good, now today is usually a slow day.” Uncle Chuck said. “You shouldn’t have too much trouble. Now, let’s get started.”

Manic stood by the drive thru window, drumming his fingers on the counter. “You weren’t kidding, Unc.” He said. “Today is a slow day.”
“I didn’t want to train you two on the weekends.” Uncle Chuck replied.
Manic flinched as the headset crackled on. “Oh, a customer.”
Uncle Chuck went back into the office.
Manic turned on the speaker. “Welcome to Chuck’s.” He said. “How may I help you?”
“Can I get one burger and onion rings, one grilled chicken sandwich and a side salad?” Shadow asked. “One cherry cola and one bottled water.”
Manic tried not to laugh. “We don’t have onion rings, sir.”
“What- Manic?” Shadow asked. “Don’t be a smart aleck. Just unfreeze or whatever the onion rings and-”
“We make ‘em fresh.” Manic said.
“Manic, that’s not true and you know it.” Sonia said.
Manic snickered. “Is too.” He said. “So what would you like instead-”
“That’s it.” Shadow snapped. He got out of the car and slammed the door.
“Oh, uh- Shadow, it’s a joke.” Manic stammered.
Uncle Chuck stepped out of the office. “What are you doing?”
“Shadow and sis came through.” Manic said. “I thought-”
Uncle Chuck sighed and shook his head. “You have whatever he’s gonna do to you coming.”
Shadow burst into the room, slamming the door against the wall.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” Manic said, panicking. “I’ll make your onion rings and I’ll pay for your food, dude.”
Uncle Chuck nodded.
“Fine with me.” Shadow said. He walked out.
Manic breathed a sigh of relief. “Oh, thank God.”
“Yeah, definitely.” Uncle Chuck said, crossing his arms. “I’m not writing you up this time, but you will be written up if you pull this stunt again.”
“Yes, Unc.” Manic replied. “Thanks.”

Manic and Sonic joined their family at the dinner table.
Sonia glared at Sonic and Manic.
Aleena set a bowl of pasta on the table. “Aww, my babies are so grown.” She said, grinning. “I can’t believe you three are working real jobs now.”
Brenden set a plate of garlic bread down. “So how was your first days?”
Aleena and Brenden sat down.
“Well, my day was great.” Sonia said, helping herself to pasta. “My boss said I could work in the salon section when I graduate. I may work there at Ulta for a while, but I really want to open my own salon one day.”
“It’ll give you a chance to earn and save money for your salon.” Brenden replied.
“Then, Shadow picked me up and we went to uncle Chuck’s place.” Sonia said. She glared at Manic. “Then my darling little brother decided to aggravate Shadow by messing with him about onion rings.”
Manic slumped in his seat. “I paid for his meal, didn’t I?”
“After he came into the restaurant to beat you to a pulp.” Sonia said.
“Unc already scolded me.” Manic said, helping himself to pasta.
“You’re grounded for a week, Manic.” Aleena said.
Brenden nodded in agreement.
Manic sighed. “Yes, Ma.”
“So we know how Manic’s day went.” Aleena said, giving Manic a look.
Manic slid down in his seat.
“How was your day, Sonic?” Aleena asked.
“Okay, but I probably won’t work there too long.” Sonic replied. “It’s too tempting to work there and I can’t eat any of the chili dogs.”
“I’m surprised you haven’t tried.” Brenden said.
Sonic laughed. “I know.” He said. “I’ll at least work there until he finds someone else and I give my two weeks notice.”
