Grace runs into an old friend in town and Pete gets the best surprise for Father's Day.

I woke up the next morning to an empty bed. That startled me a little. I’m not used to waking up after Pete. And the nightmares I’d been having all night left me feeling off kilter. Since I knew Pete was up I went to check if any of the kids were still sleeping. None of them were, so I headed downstairs. I found everyone in the kitchen having breakfast.
“Morning Mom.” Saint greeted me when I walked in.
“Good morning Sir Saint.” I said and smiled at him.
“Good morning, Mommy.” Marvel said.
“Morning Miss. Marvelous.”
“Morning Honey.” Pete said. I smiled at him as I crossed to him and dropped a kiss on his lips.
“Good morning Gracie. How are you this morning?” Dad asked me as I entered the room.
“I’m ok.” I answered as I got myself a cup of coffee. I sat with the family and sipped on it.
I reached over and placed a hand on Jupiter’s forehead to feel for a fever. He wasn’t as warm as he had been.
“How are you feeling Jupiter? Is your ear still hurting?” I asked him.
“Er hurt Mummy.” He told me. Then he reached for me wanting to be picked up and held.
“I’ve already given him his medicine. But he’s still not feeling good.” Pete told me.
“My poor baby. I know you’re not feeling good.” I said as I cuddled my son.
Amy fussed at me because I hadn’t eaten much the day before and she insisted I have a big breakfast. I ate with Jupiter on my lap.
“Mom? Pops said he would take me and Marvel camping tonight if you and Dad said it was ok. Dad already said yes. But you had to say ok too. Can we?” Saint asked me as he finished his breakfast.
“Yeah, you guys can camp out with Pops. If Jupiter wasn’t sick I’d go with you.” I said and smiled at my oldest son.
“Can we be excused? I’m done eating.” Marvel asked.
“Yeah, go play.” Pete told them. They both headed outside to play.
Pete watched them leave and then turned to me. “How are you really?” He asked me once the kids were gone.
I only looked at him and shook my head. “Had a bad night. Kept waking up from nightmares.” I told him.
He reached over and laid a hand on my knee. “Is there anything I can do?” He asked me.
“I wish there was. Thank you for offering.” I told him as I placed my hand on his. He turned his palm up and gave my hand a squeeze before letting go so I could eat.
Dad, Amy, and Pete kept up a running conversation about different topics as I ate my breakfast. They were all done, but stayed to keep me company. When I was finished, Amy cleared my plate for me.
I took Jupiter to the living room to sit and cuddle with him for a little bit. Star followed us and climbed up to sit next to me.
“Mama, hugs?” She asked me when she got settled.
“Of course you can have hugs too.” I told her as I wrapped an arm around her.
Pete came in to see where she had gone. He sat next to us.
“What would you like to do today?” He asked.
“Just take care of Jupiter.” I sighed and then said, “I guess I should call Ryan and find out more about Moms breakdown.”
“I’m going to call Larry once his office is open. I think you should hold off calling Ryan until I talk to him. I think we should go to the local police and let them know what’s going on. You know, just in case.” He told me.
We turned on the TV and streamed Bluey for the kids. Jupiter fell asleep, but Star was wide awake. Pete took her outside to play. And I took Jupiter up and put him down in his bed. Then I took advantage and took a shower.
That afternoon when the kids all came in for lunch, Marvel was asking to ride the horses. Dad said he could take her out if that was alright with me and Pete. We were fine with that.
Dad decided that he may as well make it an adventure. So, he packed up the camping gear and told the kids to change into what they wanted to spend the night in. Once the saddle bags were packed up and the tent was on the back of Dads saddle, the three of them left. He told me where he planned on setting up camp so I would know where my children were. And then they headed out. He took them on a long ride around the property before making camp next to the river.
Pete disappeared for a while that afternoon to call our attorney. He was on the call for quite some time. When he was done he told me he would tell me everything later when we were alone.
With the big kids gone for the afternoon and the night, we tried to enjoy the evening. And we did. We played with the babies that afternoon. I took them out to spend time with the animals. We had dinner with Amy. And when it was time, we put the babies to bed. We spent some time with Amy that evening before going to bed ourselves.
When we were alone, I finally asked about his call to our attorney.
“So, what did Larry recommend?” I asked him as we puttered around getting ready for bed.
“He’s submitting the paperwork to have a restraining order placed against her. And he said he would call the Savannah police to see what we need to do about the death threat. He was actually very concerned about that. He doesn’t want you to contact Ryan at all. But I did give him all of his and Rebecca’s contact information. He said that from now on, all communication needs to go through him.”
“Ok. I feel a bit better now.” I said. I know I didn’t sound enthusiastic about it. The truth was, this hurt me terribly. What Mom said, what happened to her, all of it. None of it made me happy.
“I promised you I would never let any of the parents hurt you or the kids. I’m keeping my promise to you.” He told me softly. I think he might have thought I was angry with him.
I looked over at him. He was standing next to the bed in only his sleep pants and his hair down. And the expression on his face told me he was worried. Not just about me, but for all of us.
“Thank you. Thank you for calling Larry. Thank you for protecting me and the children.” I told him.
I could see him relax just a little bit. He smiled at me and said, “I would do anything for you and to keep you all safe.”
I climbed into bed and to change the subject I said, “Sunday is Father’s Day. Amy and I are planning a cookout to celebrate you and Dad and Tim. The kids and I have gifts for you. But I was thinking about taking them into town tomorrow to do some shopping for Dad. Would you like to go with us?”
Grinning at me he said, “I’d love to.”
He slipped into bed with me and pulled me close. “Let me hold you. Let me show you how much I love you.”
“Please. I need you. Please hold me and make me feel safe.”
I let him and he was very loving. I fell asleep after being loved by him. I felt safe in his arms. I didn’t have any nightmares that night.
On the way into town the next day I asked the kids what they wanted to get Pops for Father’s Day.
“A new chainsaw.” Saint piped up from the back seat.
“A chainsaw?” Pete asked, surprised at that answer.
“Yeah, his old one is broken and he’s been trying to fix it. He needs a new one.” Saint told us.
So we headed to the hardware store in town to look at chainsaws. I did a quick Google search on my phone when we got there and asked one of the employee’s their opinion. We did end up buying Dad a new chainsaw. I was hoping he would like it and get good use out of it. Saint was adamant that the one we picked was THE ONE for Pops. I don’t know why he thought that, but he did.
Jupiter was feeling better so we decided to stay in town and had lunch. We ate at one of the places we had ordered food for our wedding. We knew we liked the food there. Then I showed my family some of the places I used to go to.
We were at a park letting the kids play on the swings and the slide. I was pushing the twins on the swings and Pete was watching over the other two as they played on the slide and jungle gym.
A Sheriff's car pulled up and parked in the tiny parking lot next to the park. I glanced over when the door to the cruiser opened. The officer stepped out of the car and pulled his sunglasses off.
“Gracie? Gracie Campbell?” The officer asked.
I looked again at the officer. He was tall, broad shouldered, but slim. He had shockingly red hair and was very freckled. I recognized him almost immediately.
“Todd! Oh my God! How are you?” I asked as I crossed to him and hugged him hard.
“I’m good! Just moved back to town about a year ago. I didn’t know you were living here. I thought you had left.”
“I did leave. I live in California now. And it’s not Campbell anymore. It’s Wentz now. I’m here visiting Dad with my family. Come on, let me introduce you.”
Pete was giving me the stink eye. He was standing next to the slide watching me interacting with Todd. He had on a pair of loose fitting jeans, not quite baggy, and one of his own Clandestine tee shirts. His blond hair was pulled back in a bun. He watched closely as we approached him. He wasn’t comfortable with me being affectionate with people he didn’t know.
“Todd, this is my husband Pete. Pete, this is an old friend of mine, Todd.” I introduced them to each other.
Pete extended his hand to shake and said, “Nice to meet you.”
Todd shook hands with Pete and said, “I know you! You’re Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy, aren’t you?”
Pete flashed his grin at Todd. “Yeah, that’s me.”
“Todd and I have known each other since I was 13 or so. He used to work on the farm for Dad.” I told Pete.
“How long have you guys been married? I remember my Mom telling me when you got married, what, like almost 20 years ago?” Todd asked me.
“That was my first husband. We’ve been divorced for many years. Pete and I’ve been married almost two years. Been together for almost thee.” I smiled at my old friend. “Would you like to meet my kids?”
“Yes! I’d love to meet them.” Todd said.
I took Todd over and introduced him to the kids. The kids liked him right away. Then he asked if Pete and I would like to go out for a few drinks with him and his wife that night. We agreed to meet them at a honky tonk in town later.
We took the kids home and Amy readily agreed to watch them for the night.
“You guys need a night out. Go have fun. We’ll be fine.” She told us.
“Todd’s a good man. You know he came home to take care of his Mom. Unfortunately, she’s not doing very well.” Dad told us.
That night we got dressed up enough for the honky tonk. That meant my tightest jeans, a button down sleeveless top in a blue and green checkerboard pattern, and of course, my trusty cowboy hat. Pete had opted for a pair of good fitting black jeans, and a nice dark blue button up shirt. He had his hair down. It had gotten quite long and was down past his shoulders. We met up with Todd and his wife Kayla. Kayla recognized both Pete and I.
I saw them waiting outside for us. I greeted him as we walked up. “Hi Todd.”
“Hey! Gracie, I want you to meet my wife Kayla. Kayla, this is Gracie and Pete. Gracie’s father is John Campbell. You know, the farmer I used to work for. And this is her husband Pete.” Todd introduced us.
“You’re Girl in the Moon, aren’t you? And you’re Pete from Fall Out Boy.” She said as we shook hands. Kayla was about my age. We were equal in height and she had long brown hair and a very pretty smile.
“You watch my channel?” I asked her surprise.
“Yeah, I’ve been watching for a few years. I’ll admit, I found your channel from Reddit. And I’ve been listening to Fall Out Boy for years. I love your music.” And then she blushed a very pretty pick.
“Well, thanks for watching.” I said and smiled at her.
“And thanks for listening.” Pete said as he shook her hand.
We headed in after that and got a round of drinks. Since I was driving I had a ginger ale. But the rest of them had beers. We found a table and got to know each other. Todd had left the area for college and had settled in Atlanta. Joined the police force. Met Kayla and got married. They had three kids. The oldest was Bronx’s age. And was going off to college this fall too. Their others were high school age. Kayla gushed over how cute the twins were and talked about missing having little ones at home. I liked her and it was fun to hang out with people our own age.
I actually got Pete to dance with me. I showed him how to two-step and he was good at it once he got the hang of it. He seemed to have a lot of fun too. He smiled and laughed a lot. He also danced with Kayla and I danced with Todd.
We stayed out late that night and had a really good time. It was so nice to get out without the children. And I was so happy Pete danced with me.
Pete gets frisky when he drinks. So by the time we got back to the house he was getting very handsy. He was trying to unbutton my blouse before we had even made it into the house.
“Hey, wait until we get to our room.” I said as I batted his hands away.
“Can’t, need you now.” He said as he sucked on my neck as I tried to unlock the door. He was like a needy teenager.
I got the door open and pulled him upstairs to our room. Once there, I proceeded to undress him as quickly as possible. We fell onto the bed and did what horney teenagers do.
“So, am I better than Todd?” Pete asked me as we laid together after sex.
“Better at what?” I asked. I really had no idea what he was asking.
“Didn’t you guys date?” He asked as he raised his head from my shoulder to look at me.
I started laughing. “We never dated. Besides the fact that Dad would have killed him because he was like 16 when I was 13, I’ve never been attracted to Todd.”
“Really? I guess I just assumed you two had, like, a summer fling, or something as teenagers.” He asked me.
“Really, I’ve never been attracted to him, ever. He’s a ginger. I’ve never been attracted to redheads.”
Pete laughed at that. “What if I dyed my hair red?”
“I’d still love you.” I told him.
He grinned at me and then kissed me.
“I had fun tonight. We need to do this kind of thing more often. Get out and have some fun without the kids.” He said after the kiss was over.
“I agree. You need to dance with me more often.”
That year for Father’s Day, Amy and I had planned a simple cookout for the Dads in the family. Tim and his family were coming over too. We were only missing Scott. Dad loved the chainsaw. Saint was so proud of himself.
Pete was happy to be with the family, but he was missing Bronx. They had been talking every day. And I talked to him regularly also. But we missed him. Pete had gotten a call from him that morning to wish him a happy Father’s Day. They talked for a while. But as the afternoon progressed I could tell it was starting to get to Pete that he didn’t have all of his kids with him. The only time he hadn’t had Bronx on Father’s Day was when he was out of the country and Bronx wasn’t with him. But they always did a big celebration when Pete got back.
As evening arrived, Tim, April, and the kids were getting ready to leave. Everyone was outside saying goodbye when a very familiar van came up the driveway. Bronx pulled up in Luna. Before he could get out of the van, Pete was there to open the door and hug his son.
“Hi Dad! Happy Father’s Day!” Bronx said when Pete let him go.
“I didn’t know you were coming. But I’m so fucking happy you're here.” Pete told him and then hugged his son again.
“Dad, I wasn’t going to miss Father’s Day with you.” Bronx told him very seriously.
I’m not sure who was more excited to see Bronx, Pete or Star. As soon as she saw her brother she started running to him calling out, ”Bonks! Bonks! Mist ooo!”
Bronx grinned down at his sister as she ran towards him. When she got close enough he scooped her up, kissed and hugged her and told her he had missed her too. Jupiter, Marvel, Saint, and I were close behind to greet him. We were all very happy he was there. Dad and Amy also greeted him enthusiastically.
We put Bronx in the guest cottage. After he put his things in there he came up to the main house to have dinner and visit with us. We had a bunch of leftovers from the cookout so I made him a plate.
“I’m sorry I’m so late. I had planned on getting here earlier today. But I took a wrong turn and ended up going the wrong direction for a while.” Bronx was telling us as he ate.
“We didn’t even know you were coming! No need to apologize.” Pete assured him.
Bronx looked at me and said, “Moon, I need your help with something. After I eat, can I talk to you? I want to show you something and you're the expert. I want your feedback.”
“Sure, I’ll be happy to help if I can.” I told him.
He flashed his smile at me and went back to eating and talking to his Dad. We all sat with him and talked as he ate his dinner. When he was done, Star wanted to be held by him. Bronx is her favorite person.
After Bronx was done eating, he and I went out to the porch so we could talk. Star would not let go of her brother so she came with us. But Bronx said he needed his computer before he could talk with me. He ran over to the guest cottage and grabbed it.
“Umm… I need your help with editing and I’d like your feedback on, well everything. What can I do to make it better? Is the content ok? Should I hold the camera differently?” As he was talking he opened up his laptop and pulled up a video.
“I want to start my own YouTube channel. I’m gonna call it The Adventures of the Boy in the Moon.”
“Really?” I asked him.
“Yeah. You’ve inspired me to go on adventures. And now that I have Luna, I thought I’d follow in your footsteps.”
That touched me so much. I didn’t know he wanted to do what I do.
“Have you told your Mom or Dad about this?” I asked him. I was more curious than concerned.
“No. I wanted your opinion first. I filmed my entire trip. And I’ve already edited a few videos. I want to talk to Dad before I talk with Mom. I don’t think either of them will be upset about it. But I’m pretty sure they’ll want me to wait until I turn 18. But I also wanted to ask you if you would promote my channel on yours? Like, just mention it and put a link for people to follow?”
“Yeah, of course I will. I’ll be happy to do that for you.” I told him.
“Ok, I’m gonna let you watch the first video I have. I’m planning on it being the first one I post.” He said and then he took Star and went inside. I sat on the porch and watched his first video.
Bronx started his video with an introduction. It was obvious he had filmed at a campsite. He went on to introduce himself. Gave a quick background on who he was and who his family are. He went on to say that he didn’t have any interest in following his parents into the entertainment business. He had his own interests and was excited to pursue them. The trip he was taking this summer was part of that. And then he talked about his trip so far with inserted clips of the drive and the set up of his camp. He shared why he was driving cross country, to surprise his Dad for Father’s Day. He was excited to see our family. He ended with “Goodbye everyone. Go have a good day wherever you are and enjoy your adventures.”
When I had watched his video I took his laptop in and handed it to him.
“What did you think?” He asked me eagerly.
“The only thing I can suggest is that when you have the time, do some research on cameras. You’re going to want some better equipment. Your phone is fine, but the sound and video quality will be better with a better camera. And a tripod, you need one. But I loved everything else. When you're ready, send me the link and I’ll mention it on my channel.” I told him with a smile.
Pete asked us, “What’s this all about?”
I looked at Bronx and said, “Ask your son.” Then I grinned at the two of them and walked away.
That night when everyone was asleep or in their rooms for the night I gave Pete my gift to him for Father’s Day.
“Did you have a good Father’s Day?” I asked him as we got ready for bed.
The smile that spread over his face told me all I needed to know. It was clear he had had a good day.
“Yeah. Yeah, it was a great Father’s Day.” He said as he pulled off his clothes to change into his sleep pants.
“Good. I’m glad you had a good day. I have one more gift for you.” I told him as I pulled out a gift bag from the closet.
“You didn’t have to do anything else.” He told me.
I smiled at him and said, “This is from me.” I handed him the package.
He smiled and took the bag. Reaching in he pulled out a small, hardcover book. The title of the story was Wanting You .
He looked at it and then at me. I decided to explain.
“I’ve written stories for Marvel, Saint, and Bronx. I wrote one for you.” I told him,
“You wrote me a story? That's really sweet of you. Thank you.” He said and looked back at the book in his hands.
“It’s a dirty story.” I told him. “About us.”
He cocked an eyebrow. “Really?” He asked with a sexy smile.
“Mmmhmm.” I hummed and smiled back.
It wasn’t just a dirty story. It was downright filthy. I’d never written anything so explicit before. I didn’t put names in it, but it’s pretty clear when you read it it’s us. The story is about a woman who is daydreaming about her husband and missing him. She thinks back on some of their more exciting times together, and how she wants to do that to him when he gets home. Then he comes home and she gets to do everything she wants. I went into detail about what it feels like when we touch, kiss, have sex. How it feels to be filled up by him. How it feels to have him under me moaning and begging to be touched. How sexy I found him, how just looking at him and knowing that I get to touch him was enough to turn me on. How it feels to hear him come under my touch. It was very erotic. And it was all based on real experiences we’ve had.
Pete climbed into bed and opened the book, and started reading. It didn’t take long for him to realize just how dirty the story was.
I climbed into bed and joined him.
“This is very sexy, very hot. Is this how you really feel?”
“Yes, it is.”
He didn’t get very far before he set it down and asked if I wanted to act out part of it. I didn’t need convincing. His Father’s Day ended with a bang.
